"At Modular Day Barcelona #06 I was pleasantly surprised to see a brand new PICO system from Erica Synths. This is the PICO System III (3) and is a new modular system that comes as a Eurorack module or fully enclosed instrument with built in power supply.

This system is largely reduced in cost by producing the full system on a single PCB and using a single enclosure while retaining the system circuits and quality we're used to from the PICO modules from Erica Synths. It also has a novel patch storage system based on PCB patch cards. This routes all the normalised connection points onto a card sized circuit board allowing you to use wire to solder up your own DIY synth voices and saved patches or you can use one of the 5 included cards for some patch ideas too. This is of course still entirely and fully patchable with normal cables, and it comes with 25 stacking cables too.

A nice trick Girts explains in the video is to turn all the knobs up fully on the device fully and use resistors rather than wire to also store preset resistance on the cards to save knob positions as well as connections.

I was told this will be releasing around the 20th of September with lots of audio examples directly from Erica Synths so expect a release and more before the end of the month."

"Hi Folks.
I have a brand new movie with Pico System 2 from Erica Synths and I always show it solo because I think it's a powerful tool.
check myself how I used the delay from the PICO DSP module with a oscillator PICO RND-random module and kick plus and stick from PICO Drums later a slight addition of resonance in Pico VCF1 Polivoks filter .
very fast, very good-looking, nice music space for which of course the system is praiseworthy.
if you are looking for something to start with modular - you just have it, but also many advanced users can afford large and interesting patches.
getting great colors is easy here when you have in such a small box of up to 14 modules.
check out my other films also with Pico System 2 solo, then you'll see how much he can do.

Erica Synths Pico Envelope Follower (EF) & PICO VCA2

"Pico EF is Erica Synths take on envelope follower module in 3hp! Pico EF features a preamp with +40dB gain, envelope output with adjustable attack time and a gate output with adjustable threshold. The Pico EF can be used as a preamp, overdrive unit or for controlling VCFs with audio signal, or to use with external instruments to control your modular system in other creative and experimental applications.

Timeline:

00:00​ Patch 1 "EF to LPG offset"
Using envelope generated from the breakbeat to modulate the LPG offset and extracted gate to trigger the bass sound.

01:14​ Patch 2 "Side-chain"
Creating side-chain compressor like effect by extracting the envelope from Bassdrum and then inverting it with Pico Scale and then applying it to the VCA through which the hi-hats from the Pico Drums 2 are sent

02:04​ Patch 3 "EF to LPG offset"
Similar to the Patch 1 but in this case using the extracted gate to trigger the LPG internal decay envelope

02:27​ Patch 4 "Bass guitar opening VCA"
Bass guitar is plugged directly into the Pico EF and then extracted envelope from the audio signal is used to open the Pico VCA through which a sequenced melody from Pico Voice is sent

03:21​ Patch 5a "FM to LPG & triggers 1"
Audio signal from FM radio is used to change the LPG offset and extracted gates are used to trigger sliced breakbeat on the Sample Drum

03:52​ Patch 5b "FM to LPG & triggers 2"
Similar setup as in Patch 5a, but instead of triggering slices extracted gates are used to trigger randomly selected samples

04:32​ Patch 6 "EF as Distortion"
Using Pico EF as distortion module by adding a lot of gain to the Bassdrum module

05:10​ Patch 7 "Bass to Plasma Drive & LPG"
Using Pico EF to amplify bass guitar which is after that send into the Plasma Drive which is afterwards set through the Pico LPG which offset is modulated by the envelope generated from the bass guitars audio"

The Erica Synths Pico VCA2 is a compact voltage controlled amplifier module, based on reliable AS3330 chip. It features two independent channels, and the first one comes with the manual offset adjustment, useful for full span vibrato effects. Audio and CV inputs of the first VCA are normalised to the second one, so the module can also be used as a buffered audio splitter. VCAs are DC coupled, and they can be used for controlling amplitude of control voltage signals.

I have new video from solo Pico System 2 from Erica Synths I want to show this small system outside of the connection with other eurorack modules. in itself it has great possibilities, PICO modules are small but have powerful capabilities, still great VCO and PICO VOICE (Karplus Strong, Chords, Wavetable, TB303 bassline emulation, PWM, Supersaw, Wavefold and Harmonic saturation), it gives a lot of syntheses which is very important to create other sounds. here is a small patch from last night.

"Sometimes my brain generates nice melodies but sometimes like today I need an injection of generator noise and these things from the 'random'and dangerous sound category. This is a completely different dimension of creation and when it seems chaotic I know that it has now generated my brain and has accepted it as music.!!!
So -here I have a new movie with Pico System 2 that allowed me to create just what had to happen after a hot day and came out of this system as this track.
Pico System from Erica synths gives me inspiration as a whole range of eurorack modules in my office.
But this little system can surprise you with many sounds and solutions.😁

I have new video from PICO System 2 from Erica Synths solo.
New yesterday's patch, all sounds only from PICO System 2.
Generally, I love these sounds and possibilities in such small modules - a ''small big beast'' is an excellent name.
when you get samples drums for PICO DRUMS modules and you have VCO plus the second VOICE module, you can do any song from dubstep, house to crazy techno or experimental or just crazy modulations and blips. many possibilities in a very small box. it's up to 14 modules so basically everything you need for great fun and adventure with a modular system.
