A "Little Synth" Designed by Legends

Crumar S.P.A., based in Castelfidardo, Italy, was a notable player in the 1970s musical instrument industry, specializing in home organs, digital pianos, and multi-sound keyboards, and with a significant focus on the U.S. market. Sante Crucianelli, the son of the owner, became the driving force behind Crumar's design and strategies. Crumar became known for its open lab culture, frequently allowing competitors to test instruments, a rare practice for the time. Another key figure during this period was Luciano Jura, a designer, musician, and programmer. Luciano became crucial as Crumar's point of contact with synth pioneer Bob Moog, which led to a collaboration that resulted in the creation of Crumar's Spirit synthesizer.

Although many details have been lost due to the passing of key figures and the closure of Crumar, the development of the Spirit synthesizer in the U.S. is well documented. Key contributors to the project, codenamed "Little Synth," included Moog engineer Jim Scott, Moog clinician and electronic music historian Tom Rhea, and Bob Moog himself. The project likely began around 1980 or 1981, and incorporated elements from earlier projects by Scott and Moog. Rhea played an essential role in defining the Spirit's key features, such as the keyboard scanning setup, panel layout, functional architecture, and technical documentation. The Crumar Spirit went into production and was released in late 1983.

4/8/25 (octaves overlay) SWTPC Psych-Tone + ADR Pan Scan + Eventide H3000B

video upload by Cfpp0

"4/8/25 (octaves overlay) SWTPC Psych-Tone + ADR Pan Scan + Eventide H3000B

Do people still have stereos at home, with two speakers? The SWTPC Psych-Tone synthesizer is running through the ADR Pan Scan, and its stereo outputs are hard-panned on the Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer. The Eventide H3000B is on an auxiliary send, fed by both channels. The Pan Scan rate is close to, but not the same as, the rate of the Psych-Tone sequence, which creates the random feel of the automatic panning. The H3000B delay fills the center of the stereo field. I recorded the same sequence in three videos, each with a different range setting, and they are overlaid here."

RITM-2 Synthesizer (1982) - 1 OSC Clone Moog Prodigy

video upload by LFOstore

"According to information that is actively circulating and being replicated on the Internet, the RITM-2 synthesizer was created in 1982 by Viktor Anatolyevich Nikulin, an engineer at the Kirov Musical Instruments Factory, at the request of a musician friend.

The device was well-received by the company's management, and in 1984, it was put into mass production, which continued for 10 years. During this time, the instrument's design underwent three further improvements. It was the only Soviet synthesizer where all components and controls were housed on a single printed circuit board.

Functionally, it consists of one tone generator, a noise generator, a sound signal mixer (triangle, saw, rectangle, noise), a low-pass filter, two full-format envelope generators (attack, decay, sustain, aftertouch), and a low-frequency modulation generator. It is a portable keyboard instrument weighing approximately 9 kg, housed in a plywood case with a lid.

The front panel had two versions: black and white. The main feature of the instrument, which determined its character, long life, and fame in the professional environment, was its unique and harsh sound.

The production capabilities of the enterprise were quite modest, and only about three thousand instruments were produced over the course of 10 years. RITM-2 was produced exclusively on orders from the administrations of houses and palaces of culture, as well as from leading communist enterprises that had their own musical groups.

During the Soviet period, it was impossible to purchase a rare instrument on the open market, and the RITM-2 was not widely known among musicians who were not affiliated with amateur groups. It was not until after 1993, when the Soviet government's support for amateur music, along with the cultural palaces and the Soviet government itself, ceased to exist, that the RITM-2 synthesizer began to find its way into the hands of professional musicians both in Russia and abroad.

The electronic musical synthesizer Rhythm-2 is a single-voice
keyboard instrument designed for solo, ensemble, orchestral performance of musical works of various genres, as well as for educational purposes and obtaining new sound effects. It can be used both in pop orchestras and at home in conjunction with an amplifier-acoustic device having an input sensitivity of no worse than 0.775. It is possible to use a low-frequency amplifier of a radio receiver, TV, tape recorder. The sound quality of the synthesizer will depend on the quality of the amplifier-acoustic device used.
On the Rhythm-2 synthesizer, it is possible to imitate the sound of classical musical instruments (keyboard, string, reed, percussion) with a certain degree of authenticity and create original sound effects (wind noise, the sound of a passing train, the sound of a sea wave, a shot and the whistle of a bullet).

The synthesizer can be used to play melodies with randomly changing pitch or timbre."

Fully Serviced 1974 Moog White Elephant CDX-0652 Vintage Cordovox Combo Organ & Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Moog CDX 0652 video upload by tiff sea

via this Reverb listing

"This synthesizer/organ was nicknamed the 'White Elephant'. It was built in Italy in 1974 by Cordovox. It combines a Thomas organ with a Moog Satellite shared on the upper manual.

The synthesizer voices play only on the upper manual, while the organ voices play on both, with organ and synth sections simultaneously available on the upper manual. The CDX-0652 also includes a batch of 9 preset synthesizer voices which don't appear on a Moog Satellite. The sonic options available are vast, with banks of switches, buttons, and sliders to shape both the combo organ and Moog circuitry. The Moog bass signal can also be accessed on the lower manual and blended with the organ, and the combo organ even has a full percussion bank.

CDX-0652

A dual-manual combo organ with a Moog Satellite grafted onto it. I understand that the Satellite had a very thin sound, nothing like the MiniMoog. It had only a single oscillator and several preset sounds, similar to other semi-preset synths like the Arp Pro Soloist and the Roland SH-2000.

Thomas bought the rights to the Satellite from Moog. The CDX-0652 was designed by Thomas in cooperation with Cordovox. A Thomas version of the Satellite (the "Synthi 1055) and the CDX-0652 were both manufactured by EME, the same outfit that made most Italian Vox organs. Thomas also marketed the Satellite under the "Orbit" name on some of their home organs.

The synthesizer voices play only on the upper manual, organ voices play on both. Organ and synth voices may be played simultaneously on the upper manual. It includes a batch of 9 preset synthesizer voices that don't appear on a Satellite. Unlike the 0642, this one seems to have all of the organ features (many of which seem identical to the 0642) available on both keyboards.

*Tabs 4: String: Bow, Pluck Strike, Pick Bell, Lunar
Left of Upper Keyboard:

Black Sliders: Flute Voices: 16', 8', 5-1'3, 4', 2-2'3, 2' Mixture, Volume Lower, Volume Upper
*White Sliders: Filter: Contour, Color, Emphasis Modulation: Rate, Depth Glide, Volume

Work done: fabricated new key actuators for synth section. Fixed divider causing top synth note not to work, repaired synth signal to main output, LFO on synth, replaced TDA-470 transistor array that was causing missing footage on organ's G notes, replaced filter supply capacitors on synth and organ, cleaned all controls and key contacts, replaced missing white fader caps on synth section with Vestax caps."

ICONIC Conversation with Jeff Blenkinsopp of The Analog Lab

video upload by Iconic Instruments

"This is a conversation with synthesizer genius, Jeff Blenkinsopp, from The Analog Lab (www.theanaloglab.com)."

CONTROl with co-founder Daren Ho makes an appearance at the end.

The video above comes in via an article on Jeff Blenkinsopp recently written up on Hell Gate. You can also find in on The Analog Lab's blog on their website here. Jeff is the man behind The Analog Lab which provides various resources for synth repair. The site is well worth a look.

From the intro to the article on Hell Gate, written by Adwait Patil:

Below: "Jeff Blenkinsopp after repairing the Beatles' VOX Continental organ, last used at their 1966 Shea Stadium show (The Analog Lab)"

"Jeff Blenkinsopp toured with Pink Floyd and Vengelis, repaired instruments for the Smiths and the Beastie Boys, but his greatest legacy might be his willingness to share his craft.

As one of New York's most meticulous and beloved vintage gear technicians, Jeff Blenkinsopp's legend precedes him. A North England native, he began repairing synthesizers in the late 1960s, worked his way into London’s disco scene as a live stage technician, and later took his talents on world tours with English rock giants Sweet and Pink Floyd, and Greek composer Vangelis. In 1978, he moved to New York, quickly gaining the trust and fixing synthesizers for bands like the Beastie Boys and the Smiths, and carved out a home for the nerds whose vintage gear obsessions were about to peak at the turn of the millennium with his workshop Expert Audio Repair Services, or EARS. At EARS, he devised hands-on methods to pass on his knowledge to some of the city’s most beloved musicians, all of whom came to learn from the guy who became Pink Floyd's synth technician at the age of 21.

Blenkinsopp’s career first took off in 1974, when he was working in London as an instrument repairman for General Electro Music. There he was introduced to Pink Floyd, who were looking for a technician, and met the criteria to join the band's French tour: he knew how to take care of a Hammond, and he had a passport. Blenkinsopp had never toured with a band, and now was in charge of setting up Richard Wright and Floyd's organs and synthesizers on a nightly basis. From then, he became a constant fixture for British bands who toured with a hefty load of keyboards, and that’s what initially brought him to New York City in 1978, touring with British glam rockers Sweet. A tour that changed his life."

Pivot FM Synthesizer【VST + AU + CLAP】

video upload by Fors

Every single sound made with Pivot: https://fors.fm/pivot
No effects besides our Sala reverb: https://fors.fm/sala

"Pivot is an FM synth with three operators, one morphing filter and zero algorithms, designed to be straightforward and joyous to use. Years of research, development and deep love of FM synthesis has gone into picking just the right balance of flexibility and simplicity.

It marks another milestone in a long journey of making FM synthesizers that deviate from the norm. Much like its predecessors, it does not aim to replicate or succeed anything but to explore FM in a slightly different way.

Lagom
In Swedish, this means 'just right', and it's exactly how we feel about 3OP FM. It's a great balance of being able to make complex timbres while being quick to program.

Zero algorithms
Instead of choosing between a range of pre-defined algorithms, Pivot lets you continuously route the top modulator's output between the other pair. This makes sound design a truly explorable process where you don't have to make any decisions up front.

Best of both worlds
With a resonant 4-pole morphing filter, Pivot lets you carve out frequencies in an intuitive way that feels right at home. Smoothly mixing between Lowpass, Bandpass and Highpass brings a flair that perfectly pairs with the most extreme of FM tones.

Matrix modulation
Modulate the FM controls to your heart's content with 2 LFOs and 2 ADSR envelopes in a flexible mod matrix routing with up to 6 destinations at once.

... and yes, you can change the color theme."

"This limited edition 25 Voice Micro Q comes from a smoke-free home studio. It is in fine working order and was a great companion to the other Waldorf's. Having the Halloween Edition of the Q keyboard, it makes sense for someone else to love this Micro Q. This one is painted all glossy unlike other Waldorf rack synths, very classy. No rack rash though the faceplate seems to have a slight bend that was probably a factory issue? Never bothered me, never been dropped either. Comes with power supply."

The Roland MKS-70 (JX10/JX-8P) used on Twin Peaks is not listed as I believe it was owned and by Angelo Badalamenti, not Lynch. I included his portable audio recording equipment, not as a synth, but as a possible sample source. Unfortunately the listing does not mention if there are any recordings present in them so keep that in mind if you bid. It would be a shame if they were removed.

Most of the items mention they were "owned and used by David Lynch in his personal recording studio."

Images in this post were captured in the order listed for each listing.
