Keynote Auto Rhythm MR-101 Analog Drum Machine

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"All analog japanese drum machine from the 70s. Classic sounds and patterns from this era. Very nice sounds and inspiring patterns (20 in total). There is a balance knob that can fully mute the hi hat and cymbal, very handy for more variations. Also a sustain knob controls decays of the instruments except for cymbals and offers a wider range of sound (from a deeper kick to a very tight one for instance). All in all a very charming box. It has been serviced and is fully working. Like on all those boxes there is a slight hum in the background due to the power transformer but it is not a problem neither on stage nor in the studio."

Hillwood HR-30 analog rhythm machine 2022/11

video upload by Ohm.Studio

"Quick demo of a recently serviced Hillwood HR30 drum machine. Recorded through a custom built spring reverb. No other treatment or editing.

Fully analog sounds in the like of the Ace Tone FR1 / FR2, Roland TR33 / TR66 and other units of the 70s."

Note this appears to be the first post to feature the Hillwood HR-30.

Baldwin DS-50 Discoverer 49-Key Synthesizer SN BC2802487

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Japanese Baldwin Discoverer DS-50 came out in mid/late 70s (pre-MIDI) and features control over the synth sounds plus a built in drum machine. All original knobs are present. Every single function tested and works excellent as intended, this includes every single key. And all keys are level and have a good almost weighted feel to them.

The auto-accompany can be turned on or off and split at the keyboard (rhythm vs melody). There's a built in speaker but it can be bypassed using the audio outs. This makes it easy to implement in your home studio.

They really built instruments to last in the 70s. The DS-50 is made of metal and really well constructed. Original power cord is included. Also included is the hard to find original owners manual as well as the detachable music rack and original travel case."

Novation Celebrates 30 Years with Giveaways and More

video upload by NovationTV

"It’s been 30 years of Novation and music made with bass, beats and synthesisers.

From early beginnings in 1992, Novation has been a pioneer in developing music technology, allowing artists to create decade-defining sounds. Starting as Novation Electronic Music Systems, we built a small but innovative device, the MM10, which let you control a MIDI sequencer, the Yamaha QY10, for the very first time from a keyboard.

Since then, our synths, MIDI controllers, grooveboxes and more have helped people create, play and perform at all stages of their music-making journey.

From all of us at team Novation – we want to wish a huge thank you to our whole community for keeping us inspired. We can't wait to hear what you make next, and we look forward to another 30 years.

"Novation looks back on three decades of bass, beats and synthesizers.

Since 1992, Novation’s synths, MIDI controllers, grooveboxes and more have helped people create, play and perform at all stages of their music-making journey.

In 1992, Novation developed the MM10, an innovative MIDI sequencer that controlled the Yamaha QY10 from a keyboard, revolutionising the way we make music as the first MIDI controller of its kind. Bass Station’s arrival in 1993 pushed them further into the spotlight as a standout synth of the ‘90s. Developed by none other than synth designer Chris Huggett, his expertise with analogue and digital synth design influenced many of their iconic synths including Supernova, Bass Station II, Summit and Peak.

Over the years, Novation’s instruments have brought new life to music-making, including the Launchpad range which changed the game for grid-based music production and DIY performance, Circuit’s much-loved intuitive approach to beatmaking and sampling, and the award-winning Launchkey range of MIDI controllers used by artists in many genres.

In 2022, they’re celebrating 30 years of music, pioneering music technology and people that made Novation what it is today.

With Novation, anything is possible

From October until Christmas, they’re bringing their community together to celebrate the made music with their instruments over the years with videos from artists across the globe, huge prizes up for grabs in their 30th anniversary competition and exclusive curated soundpack giveaways.

Giving back to the global community of fans
Novation will be giving away their biggest prize bundle yet to encourage their worldwide music-making community to share the love for their instruments. One lucky winner can own a full studio’s worth of gear, as well as three years of upcoming products.

The prize bundle includes:

Modor DR-2 Drum Machine with Mixing Desk in Studio

video upload by Dziam Bass

"In this movie is some fun from hands with Modor DR-2 Drum machine.
I love work with DR-2 because with Studio desk and some processing this sound is AWESOME for me !!!

working with machines is an important element for me as the basis of music based on rhythm ... I especially love to add color in the studio and improvise during sessions .. but sometimes I just program

small drums improvisation but of course this is incredible machine for programming up to 128 step .

First of all: although it's digital, the DR-2 is not about sampling. It's a drum synthesizer, like a classic analog drum machine, but it uses digital sound synthesis algorithms instead of analog circuitry. There are no samples in the DR-2, and there's no sample memory.

Just like the Modor NF-1, the DR-2 is not build to recreate the classics of the past. The DR-2 uses digital sound synthesis to innovate drum sounds and rhythms. Many sounds will be recognizable. It is possible to make classic sounding bass drums, snares and rimshots. It's not difficult to program classic floorfillers with the DR-2. But with 12 synthesis parameters per drum, you'll easily find yourself creating your own individual sound."

Introducing drumlogue, the first hybrid drum machine from Korg

video upload by Korg

Update: two new user videos by Honeysmack and Marcus Schmahl added below.

"Combining the rich power of analog with the flexibility of digital, drumlogue provides the ultimate analog sound for your beats.

Featuring newly developed analog circuitry, drumlogue builds a solid foundation for your track; it also helps you stand out with an elevated harmonic richness and thick low end.

Important parameters for each part have dedicated controls on the front panel for quick and intuitive changes – without diving into menus. For even more creative potential, each part has a wealth of further parameters accessible through a powerful onboard editing suite. Even mixing is simple, with dedicated volume controls for the analogue and digital parts.

New Korg Hybrid Drum Machine Drumlogue - Honeysmack's first encounter video upload by Honeysmack

"Get ready for a super nerd session, no talking just me tinkering with the Korg drumlogue for the very first time. Korg Australia were kind enough to give me a play with a sneak preview pre-production model of the drumlogue. Unfortunately I had no manual at the time, so please excuse me in advance. Hopefully this video provides some context to its sound. I feel this will be a winner for Korg, well done! Great sound, neat size, this could be a monster of a machine.

All the sounds and effects in this video are from the drumlogue, there are no external sounds or effects. Simple stereo output from the drum machine. No other drum machines were hurt in the making of this video.

A paradigm shift in drum machines.

drumlogue marks a paradigm shift in drum machines. It offers the raw power and rich sounds of Analog, the flexibility of Digital voices, and drumlogue’s SDK for fully customizable User Custom Synthesizers.

On top of that, its heavy-duty, dynamic sequencer, customizable effects, and intuitive controls will make drumlogue a must-have in your studio to create music for any genre or style.

It’s time to take your beats and entire musical process to a whole new creative level with incredible sounds, effects, customization, and sequencing. Let drumlogue support your craft on your musical journey!

Raw Analog Power

drumlogue was conceived to provide the ultimate analog sound for your beats, and delivers fantastically; featuring completely newly developed analog circuits by legendary Korg analog synth team engineer Junichi Ikeuchi (ARP 2600 M, MS-20 mini, ARP Odyssey…) , the depth and richness of its sound is on a whole new level.

These new analog circuits - (Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Low Tom and High Tom) - will not just provide a solid foundation for your track, but make it stand out with an elevated harmonic richness and a thick low end.

Blending simplicity and ease of use, the most important controls for each of these parts have dedicated knobs on the front panel that can be tweaked at any time without any menu diving necessary, so you can quickly and intuitively fine tune your sound on the fly.
For further sound exploration, each part provides many more parameters accessible through the powerful onboard sound editing system.

Last but not least, each part on drumlogue - analog or digital - has a dedicated volume knob that will make your mixing process incredibly smooth and easy.

Digital Flexibility

As the perfect partner for its analog section, drumlogue provides 7 digital parts; 6 sample based and 1 synthesis based (Multi-Engine). The sample based parts can play any of the preloaded PCM banks on drumlogue. You can also import your own User Samples to its memory, making drumlogue an extremely versatile machine with virtually limitless sonic possibilities.

To start with, the 64 preloaded drum kits of drumlogue will provide you with a wide variety of sounds spanning several genres so you can easily kick-start your tracks.

For additional sounds, samples can easily be easily loaded into the drumlogue just by connecting your drumlogue to your computer via USB and simply drag-dropping your samples onto the main memory.

Multi-Engine and logue SDK

The popular Multi Engine from prologue and minilogue xd is now more powerful than ever. In addition to the Variable Phase Modulation (VPM) and Noise generator engines, the Multi Engine features a new User Custom slot that can play full-fledged synth voices that provide vast sonic possibilities, never before heard on a drum machine.

Custom Synths

drumlogue’s synth voices are not simply static waveforms. Custom synths can be built to not only generate sound, even implementing built in filters, LFOs, MIDI controlled polyphony or other parameters is now possible The only restriction for third party developers is their creativity (and CPU usage!), giving you unbound sound exploration.

Exclusive Sinevibes Synth Plugin “Nano”

Korg has collaborated with popular logueSDK plugin developer “Sinevibes” to include a brand new synth plugin “Nano” as a factory preset on drumlogue. This exclusive plugin explores the power behind the expanded Multi Engine and will give all drumlogue users a taste of this new platform.

“Nano” is a full-fledged virtual analog synth with a wide array of features and plenty of customizable parameters. The synth engine has dual oscillators with optional ring modulation, a 4-pole state-variable filter with soft clipping distortion, built-in EG and built-in multi-waveform LFO.

Leads, basses, percussive sounds or cinematic effects, you decide how to use this incredible sonic potential!

A True Sequencing Powerhouse

drumlogue harnesses all of its sonic power to an extremely powerful internal sequencer that is flexible and easy to use.

Tired of the same old beats? drumlogue's heavy duty 64 step sequencer makes it easy and intuitive to create complex rhythm patterns and polyrhythms that elevate your music creation process with innovative features such as per-step probability, per-step alternate trigger patterns, per-step micro offsets, per-track groove patterns and much more.

Thanks to its clear OLED display, it is also very easy to visually follow and edit your sequences.

drumlogue is both great in the studio and playing live. With its Chain mode, creating long and interesting patterns is straightforward and clearly displayed. In Loop mode you can switch between several variations to play your sequence in new and interesting ways. The Motion and Accent recording functions are intuitive and fast and if you want to try new things on your track, the Randomization function is there to help you. These functions and many more on the drumlogue will support and spice up your live performances!

Effects and customization

drumlogue includes several high-quality effects across three categories that can be used simultaneously: Delay, Reverb and Master effects.

The send amounts for delay and reverb effects can be set independently for each part, and multiple return points are available.
The master effects allow you to add that final polish to your sound and bring it all together. Master effects can be bypassed on a per-part basis, making it possible to send the effect to specific audio parts. A sidechain bus is also available to master effects which can make use of it.

"W.A. Production promotes updated InstaChord 2 MIDI processing plug-in as chord creation and sequencing tool taking music-making to next level

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC: W.A. Production, producers crafting creative plug-ins to help anyone achieve studio- quality processing speedily and easily, is proud to announce availability of the InstaChord 2 MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) processing plug-in — initially inspired by how chords are played on a guitar and applying that technique to experience the same feeling from a MIDI controller keyboard and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) without memorising chord shapes and holding down all the notes to make the chords ring true, then taking the concept to the next level of music-making with notable new features as a chord creation and sequencing tool — as of July 28…

Murder Diary Dictaphone - Volca Modular, Beats, 8Bit Warps, Fostex XR-3 - Ambient Music Jam

video upload by ChrisLody

"Well, it's very hot here in the UK today so I've been shut in my new studio for most of the day making this jam. It started off pretty cool in here but the studio lights and computer equipment have now made it pretty uninhabitable!

Anyway, I found this dictaphone (the common name for a micro cassette recorder here in the UK, for my generation anyway!) a few years back on a carboot sale, I think I paid a pound for it. It had a tape inside which is still the only micro cassette I own. On one side there was an incredibly badly recorded lecture and on the other side, this. I pretty sure this is the musings of a student writing a short story. She's talking about deathrow in prison at the very start and then an accidental death, I can't take any credit for the story of course and the tape and recorder are not labelled at all. All nice moody stuff but I've been struggling for a long time to 'frame it' just because it's quite whispery in its performance.

This was the first time I've set up my cassette four track too since I moved my studio so I wanted to do something slightly different with the video. There was going to be more footage, but like I said it's too damn warm in here now!

The Volca beats provides the rhythm on track 1, Volca Modular playing a bassline on track 2, Volca Modular again on track 3 playing a melody which has a kind of call and response with the 8Bit warps on track 4 playing a pad sound. I'm using an Inkel MX880E with a Zoom 1201 for reverb as usual. I'm creating a feedback path within the Zoom on occasion that provides the uncomfortable horror like squealing sounds :)"

Moog Sound Studio: DFAM + Subharmonicon. 50 Combo Patches. + Samples. Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Welcome to the soundset for a semi-modular system, Moog Sound Studio: DFAM + Subharmonicon.
It is a collection of 50 patches that include basses, drums/percussion, leads, plucks, stabs/chords, generative-style patterns. There is a wide range of sound colors inside the pack: massive and gentle, aggressive and soft, bright and dull, harmonic and dissonant tones, straight and polymetric rhythms.

🔮 Get the soundset: https://bit.ly/3x756yg

Highlights:
✅ high level of interconnection of the synths
✅ thoroughly set parameters
✅ detailed notes for patches full of tips and tricks
✅ audio examples in 3 versions: DFAM only, Subharmonicon only, both together
✅ to recreate these patches you need up to 12 patch cords
✅ one of my hardest work ever, I spent up to 2 hours for each patch
✅ FREE BONUS: 150 samples with Scale and BPM (75-126 BPM), Wav 24/44100

The main point of the soundset is the high level of interconnection, not just syncing the two synths with independent timbres (individual patches for DFAM and Subharmonicon are also available on my website). In this patchbook the timbres of the synths are soldered and can’t exist separately:
🔸 they modulate each other with Envelopes
🔸 a sequence from one synth may change parameters on the other one
🔸 triggers interaction, clock/rhythm, run/stop modulations break predictable patterns
🔸 audio signals from VCOs may be used as modulation sources to create harmonies/intervals or 🔸 crazy experimental inharmonic tones

At the same time, they play different and clear roles, it’s not a sound mess, but two synths working in close cooperation.

💽 Also, there’s a separate folder with WAV samples with the same timbres, with Scale and BPM information. You may use them inside a sampler or DAW if you want 100% same sound as in the examples. Slice them for one-shots or loops, this is a great material for further editing and processing.

The soundset is presented in the form of PDF-Document. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters worth tweaking during the playback, how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn lots of things about the synth and discover its true depth.

Each patch has audio examples, they help to understand how a patch is supposed to sound. Audio examples for a patch are presented in three variants: DFAM only, Subharmonicon only, and both together.

Professional standalone sequencer
Genuine centerpiece of a setup, it offers every tool needed to compose songs in the studio and perform them on stage. From vintage to modern synths, from modular systems to your favorite DAW, Hapax can sequence and synchronize all your gear, while bringing you carefully crafted tools, designed for maximizing creativity.

Up to a million notes and events
16 tracks per project, 8 patterns per track.
Thanks to its dual-processor architecture, Hapax can record and transform tremendous amounts of data in no time, without a hitch.

MPE compatibility
Hapax is the first hardware sequencer that fully supports MIDI Polyphonic Expression. Record the finest gestures, slides and articulations of your playing, without compromising quality.

Around the clock performance.
Dual-project architecture

Hapax can handle two separate and independent projects, that can be played simultaneously. This lets you compose or load an entire project while the first one is already playing, enabling endless sets and seamless transitions.

Dawless is more.
Hapax offers broad connectivity options for perfect integration in any setup.

Adaptive workflow.
Several ways to write music
Writing a melody: use a polyphonic or MPE track and take advantage of the advanced step sequencer to quickly lay down notes or edit your live recording.

Composing a beat: control up to 8 different instruments with a single track. The drum sequencer is tailored for very easy rhythm writing and jamming.

Real-time midi effects.
Bring your synths to life
Hapax embeds multiple real-time, polyphonic, non-destructive midi effects, as well as project-wide assignable LFOs. Each parameter of these effects can be automated in the dedicated mode, and processed in the mod matrix, which provides even more ways of routing and modulating.

Powerful composition tools.
Powerful tools for offline note transformation and generation, right at your fingertips. Harmonically invert your motive, generate a controlled-random counter-melody, slowly ramp up the velocities, emphasize every fifth 8th note...

Hi-res recording
Hit the red button, and record from the encoders and 128 pads of Hapax, external midi instruments (included MPE controllers) or any incoming analog signal, at a high resolution of 192 ppqn. Looper style recording, count-down and metronome options, punch-in mode, you'll certainly find the options that best suit your workflow.

Time elasticity
Each track has an elasticity value which changes its playback speed, expressed in percentage of BPM. Quickly double or halve the speed of a track, or create slightly shifted tracks that will slowly drift out of phase with each other.

Fluid editing
Using hardware should never get in the way of creative flow. The undo/redo button lets you go back in time as needed, thanks to its extensive history. Additionally, the snapshot function enables you to save the state of a pattern and recall it with a single press. Together with dedicated copy, paste and delete buttons, Hapax offers a complete toolbox for the prompt editing of your tracks.

Harmony, simplified
For fast and intuitive chord building, the chord live mode brings harmonic capabilities to anyone, with or without deep theoretical knowledge. With its colorful interface, the chord mode displays a synesthetic melding of hearing, vision and touch.

Simple by design.
Trimmed to perfection
We designed Hapax from the ground up, deconstructing everything we knew about sequencing. We aimed for a high-end product, with dual arm processors for computation power and a rugged yet minimalist housing.

As music-making should remain an enjoyable process, we favored dedicated buttons over key combinations and imagined a clear-cut interface as well as a simple architecture. We have striven to minimize the importance of screens for live performing, but the dual grayscale display helps keeping track of things in a studio context.

Evolving firmware.
The Hapax Operating System has been written with extra care, prioritizing stable and fast operations. New features and parameters will be added regularly. Looking for the latest HapaxOS for your device? Follow this link.
