Fred's Lab Manatee TouchOSC Bidirectional Editor v4.0

This is my favorite patch in that bank. It illustrates what the Manatee can do like a warm FM full body pad (that you can do on a DX synth) but with an aggressive attack and subtle spectral decay and movement that only the Manatee can do AFAIK.

Thanks to Fred’s Lab for providing me with the MIDI NRPN (and CC) specifications.

[Bank 1]
Crafted by synth_nyc, this bank features 64x meticulously hand-designed presets in sysex format. Taking full advantage of the advanced spectral oscillator and unique synthesis options, it is perfectly designed for atmospheres, pads and keys sounds. This bank also provides a solid set of basses, plucks, bells ... but also arpeggiated sounds with a retro / nostalgic vibe. Provided sounds have an emphasis on expressiveness, they all make great use of velocity & aftertouch controls.

[Bank 2]
As an extension of [Bank 1], [Bank 2] shifts towards classic hybrid and early digital synth sounds, featuring timbres reminiscent of wavetable and FM-based synthesizers. Still, a wide variety of presets are offered, this bank complements [Bank 1] perfectly.

Bree6 Custom Factory Patches by SYNTH_NYC

"GS Music commissioned me to create 64 Custom Factory Presets for their new discreet analog polyphonic synthesizer, the Bree6.

Those presets are available for free as a factory bank coming up with the synth.

You can listen to them in high resolution (24bit 96kHz PCM WAV masters, FLAC encoded) on my site (optimized for Chrome on MacOS and Windows).

All presets have PB, MW, AT/PAT and Velocity configured, except the last one which has MPE configured additionally (Bree6 should be in MPE mode for this one) for the best possible expressivity.

It's impossible to make a bad patch with the Bree6! With or without subtractive synthesis knowledge, you can make a great sounding patch in no time. The Bree6 is the 2nd discreet analog polyphonic synthesizer released by GS Music (following the e7), it has those notable improvements:

- Poly Aftertouch (it responds to Channel AT as well without having to change anything on the synth, and MPE by configuration change)
- Detune (voice detune)
- Poly Stereo (hard panning per voice on L/R channels), Poly ('center' on both L/R channels) output modes
- Larger display
- Only 1 'Shift' parameter (the Sub Oscillator On/Off feature)
- Very few 'Menu' parameters (only the MW, Velocity, AT/PAT and MPE sources / targets / amounts in the Control Menu; and Transpose, PB Range, Preset Level, Unison Interval in the Preset Menu), so it's really WYSIWYH (What You See Is What You Hear).

It was a pleasure crafting those 64 FREE Custom Factory Presets for the Bree6, I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them and that they will bring value and inspiration to yours music."

The DX7 mk1 was my first synth in 1984 and first experience with sound design, then I had owned many other FM synths: DX11, TX81Z, DX100, TX802, TX7, FS1R and today I own DX7V, OpSix native, OPS7 (and had owned FM7 and FM8) and twistFM.

IMHO twistFM is the lo-fi FM synth you want and what Yam should have made instead of the FS1R (those 90s VA filters were far from convincing IMHO). IMHO 4-Op is too few, 8-Op is too much and 6-Op is just the right balance between time to craft a preset and sound complexity.

In twistFM you have a solid 6-Op (multi-wave) FM foundation and then you can built-up on wonderful analog filters and spot on modulation options (LFOs, ENV, MW, AT/PAT, etc…).

I’m also grateful that -upon my suggestion- the creator implemented 3 core FM features: Keyboard Level Scaling, Keyboard Rate Scaling and Keyboard Velocity Sensitivity in v1.1 (which brings even more expressivity to twistFM) and grouped them in a new OPERATOR menu for a fast paced FM editing workflow.

In the 50 custom factory patches above, I’ve tried to highlight what I think is unique about twistFM but also showcase classic FM and analog (well hybrid) tones.
If you are looking for FM grit & dirt and powerful analog filters, search no more… twistFM packs it all and a load more innovation to keep you busy for a while.

I hope you’ll enjoy the FREE patches as much as I’ve enjoyed programming them.

Fred's Lab Manatee Custom Patches [Bank 2] by synth_nyc

"This bank 2 has been created using a TouchOSC mk2 editor I developed (with LUA Scripts) for Manatee firmware v1.03 thanks to Fred’s provided specifications for the parameters control. It’s using NRPN for Editor -> Synth and SYSEX for Synth -> Editor. I had to reverse engineer the 211 bytes SYSEX dump for 1 Part for this effort. In v1.03, there are 233 parameters total, including 162 for Part."

This is my favorite patch in that bank [TouchOSC editor pics below]. It illustrates what the Manatee can do like a warm FM full body pad (that you can do on a DX synth) but with an aggressive attack and subtle spectral decay and movement that only the Manatee can do AFAIK.

Lastly I’ve tried to highlight new things in that bank 2 (which I haven’t used in bank 1), most patches use them:
- The Spectrum Editor
- The 1-shot LFOs (firmware v1.03): NDLR this is my favorite feature on the Modal 002 / 002R

Most patches have Velocity and PB configured / used in the demo to showcase the Manatee expressivity; and external FX have been used.

Only Manatee Part 1 is used."

From patch 25, each patch name and sound file name has the PPG Transient name embedded in it; e.g. Sumu 34 T864 is using PPG Transient T864. I invite the audience to listen to both the PPG original sample and Sumu patch I created from it to assess the transformation (the objective is to create something new and different, not a 1:1 replica).

Starting from Patch Sumu 17 Clouds (and almost exclusively used till Patch 50), I’ve discovered an another way (compared to Default patch / most factory patches and user manual recommendations) to patch the Sumu Partials module. This opens up Sumu to ultra innovative sounds; you can use Sumu as a granular synthesizer with each grain harmonic having a different envelope / amplitude…

Sumu has become one of my all time favorite digital synthesizer along with Waldorf Iridium, Fred’s Lab Manatee and Korg modwave native.
