"Echolocator is a unique stereo delay with an algorithm developed by 112dB, the Echolocator is a hands-on precision tool that lets you take manual and very musical control over small nuances. Like a bat navigating its environment in the dark, you can feel your way through your live performances and shape the delay response and character on the fly.

"Wo-Fi as in Lo-Fi - its got WiFi and it's Low Fi ... it's the Wo-Fi from Kiviak Instruments. It's a sampler giving us vintage 80s and 90s tones that sits in the modern studio with CV, MIDI, USB and yes... wifi

With emulations inspired by Akai S950, Emu SP-1200, Casio SK-1 and Yamaha VSS-30 you've got a whole load of vintage vibes at your fingertips.

In this demo I've explored it using drum loops which took me in a completely different direction than most demos I've heard. I thought they'd be an easier way to demonstrate the effect of the different 'machines' on the sound - and they really do sound great. Possibly another direction for future development to investigate expanding."

"Rare 1987 Casio SK-5 8-bit sampling keyboard custom modified with a 50 point patch bay. This is a haunted, lo-fi, challenging but rewarding instrument which will inspire any alternative electronic musician and sound designer. Nothing is obvious here- the keyboard itself doesn't always function as you'd expect while the patch bay opens up a world of experimental audio possibilities, far outreaching Casio's original intentions- remember, it isn't broken, it's just weird.

When the patch matrix is implemented, an array of warped sounds and effects are generated; applying multiple connections produces an increasingly complex range of cyclic, pitch dropped, fractured, tonal, bit crushed, flanged, distorted, aliasing digital noise and bizarre sequences which affect the presets, onboard rhythms (speed rushes of laser, lion and drum samples) and any sound you record using the sampling feature. The SK 5 is also very good at producing complex drones and atmospheres which can be developed using the five included patch cables- these can also be stacked for further sonic manipulation.

"Tested with a power supply and 5 AA batteries. Sampling works but can be finicky. The instructions seemed simple, but it would only record the sample if the sound was loud, so maybe an external mic would help. The battery compartment is clean and volume adjustment is static free. The box is heavily worn, manual is kind of worn. The actual keyboard is in really good cosmetic condition."

"The 8BitM8 is a brand new bit-crusher pedal inspired by the tonal qualities of vintage samplers, MPCs and the love of lo-fi sounds. It comes hand made in a rugged metal enclosure packed with high quality components which include a genuine arcade button.

Hardware bit crushers are hard to come by and are often simply 'sample rate reducers' without any effect on the number of bits. The 8BitM8 is a fully digital bit crusher with settings for 4, 6 and 8-Bit - meaning the sounds of early samplers, lofi keyboards and digital effect units at your fingertips.

Casio SK-100 sampling keyboard demo - "Over Again"

"Casio SK-100 sampling keyboard (1987)
The SK-100 is a larger version of the famous SK-1 and SK-5 with more keys and features, including the ability to store two custom drum sequences, which can include samples. The sampler function itself has a great 8-bit / 10.113kHz lo-fi sound; grainy and interesting.

All sounds you hear in the track were made using the Casio SK-100 sampler or its factory sounds and were recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, reverb, and delay were added as required. Individual drum hits were sampled from the SK-100 and sequenced in the DAW. I gave the clap some more depth by triggering multiple samples, slightly differently pitch- and time-shifted, through a short reverb.
