KURZWEIL K2061: more affordable VAST synthesis

"Kurzweil's new models, the K2061 and K2088, could be seen unplugged at NAMM 2024, but this year they were fully functional and we were able to see them, touch them and try them out, paying more attention to the cheaper K2061.

🎹 Main technical specifications:
V.A.S.T. synthesis engine with VA capability, 6-operator FM and organ modeling
256 polyphony voices
32 parts per program and 16 MIDI zones
4GB total memory (divided between factory and user)
32 simultaneous effects
16-track sequencer

The keyboards use Fatar mechanisms: TP/9 semi-weighted on the K2061 and TP/40L with hammer action on the K2088. Both models include channel aftertouch and a ribbon controller. The interface has a non-touch 480x272 pixel color display and a set of physical controls. Editor software for Windows and MacOS has been announced.

The K2061 is significantly cheaper than the K2700 ($2,199), while the 2088 is similarly priced ($2,999)."

"The first instrument from the reborn Oberheim is a monster for a variety of reasons: for its size and price, of course, but above all for the heritage it carries inside, condensing the sound of four great synths: OB-X, OB-XA, OB-8 and OB-SX, covering a golden era spanning from 1979 to 1983.

AC/DC se basa en la plataforma OWL de Rebel Technology, y aquí reside probablemente su mayor atractivo. Permite enviar y recibir tanto CV como audio a 16 bits/48 KHz, así como cargar patches de la librería de Rebel. Es compatible con los DAW y generadores de CV más populares, y también sirve como procesador de audio/CV para aplicaciones iOS."

"Mangu Díaz es un sevillano enfrascado en una miríada de proyectos musicales. Entre ellos está Tesseract, su propia marca Eurorack, cuya lista de módulos anda ya por la veintena.

En este vídeo nos explica detalladamente el funcionamiento de Tukra, un secuenciador de 8 pistas con audio y midi que promete ser "una solución todo en uno para la batería en tu rack" y además, tiene una gran capacidad de integración con otros equipos (no sólo Eurorack). En Tukra no hay submenús, todas las funciones y vistas son accesibles en todo momento, y ofrece hasta 64 pasos por patrón, 64 patrones, 64 partes y 16 canciones por proyecto.

"Finalizamos nuestro paseo por la presencia española en Superbooth 2021 con Velectronic, una empresa con una historia atípica en la escena modular. Su primera obra es A-envelope, una envolvente ADSR desarrollada para simplificar el patching en configuraciones polifónicas.

Velectronic es un caso poco habitual dentro del sector: esta vez no estamos ante el emprendimiento de uno o varios artesanos de la electrónica, sino ante toda una compañía dedicada a la electrónica industrial desde 1972, que de repente lanza una propuesta en síntesis modular. ¿Cómo se entiende esto? La explicación está en el empeño e iniciativa de Josep Miquel Vera, entusiasta de los sintetizadores, que convenció a su padre —fundador y gerente de Velectronic— para lanzarse a la piscina. El propio José Vera nos lo cuenta al principio del vídeo."
