Erica Synths and Moritz Klein Introduce EDU DIY FM Drum Eurorack Module

via Erica Synths
"Introducing an FM Drum circuit that fuses analog punch with metallic tones of FM synthesis. This DIY kit offers a wide range of sounds for your patches, from kicks to toms, metallic clangs and more – a great addition of versatile, rhythmic elements to your system!
We – Erica Synths and Moritz Klein – have developed a series of educational DIY kits under the brand name mki x es.EDU with one specific goal in mind: to teach people with little-to-no prior experience how to design analog synthesizer circuits from scratch. What you’ll find in the box is not simply meant to be soldered together and then disappear in your rack. Instead, we want to take you through the circuit design process step by step, explaining every choice we’ve made and how it impacts the finished module.
NB! All kits in these series are simple and come with extensive user manuals which can be downloaded separately, therefore we will not provide customer support in case your DIY build fails to function or similar."

"While trying to fix a broken TR-909, I came up with a DIY analog FM Drum circuit that combines the punchy character of the 909 with the metallic textures of FM synthesis. It comes with four different modes:
• 909-style kick/tom
• Metallic bell/gong
• Ring mod cymbal
• FM cymbal
The FM Drum is the final drum voice in my DIY drum machine series (for now). If you want to build along, here's the bill of materials:"

Modor Workshop with Marcel Belmans at SchneidersLaden
video upload by SchneidersLaden
"On July 25th, Marcel Belmans from Modor visited SchneidersLaden for an in-depth workshop exploring the NF-1 and DR-2 synthesizers. Known for their unique approach to digital synthesis, Modor's instruments are hands-on, innovative, and intuitive.
Marcel demonstrated the versatility of the NF-1's polyphonic synthesis and the DR-2's powerful drum synthesis, showing off recent firmware updates and new features. We got an inside look at how these machines interpret digital sound design, blending the familiar with the experimental. Nice!"

Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave soundscape IV - Light blinds the way
video upload by MIDERA
"I think this will be my final soundscape with the 3rd Wave. I will need to return it to its owner. It's been fun playing through it and learning its ins and outs, to the extent that I could.
It's... a cool synth. I think the overall 'crystalline' sound it has is maybe not for me. I couldn't really shake that. Probably just didn't spend enough time with it, but it's hard to say. You can't really make it sound bad, but I guess I'm not sure if that's a good thing.
I'm conflicted. But also, I know I gravitate towards keyboard versions of synths, so maybe that plays a role (although I love the Modor NF-1). I don't know. Something I need to do... test my Virus TI and its wavetables. Add some oscillator saturation, use the analog filters and ask myself, "does this take me anywhere near where the 3rd Wave took me?'

Modor NF-1 soundscape IV - Thicket
video upload by MIDERA
"One of the more unique synths I've used. I had reached out to Marcel at Modor and had feature requests... The reality is - those requests were already features. I just didn't have a new enough manual! It has an excellent UI. The only thing I'd love to see is an easier way to navigate the menu (if you press the menu button you have 1-2 seconds to decide if that's the menu setting you want to enter - if you do nothing, you enter the sub menu of that. I'd love to see it so that you can cycle through them at your leisure without entering them. Small complaint, if you can call it that). Mine is the 'old version' which has 'loose potentiometers' and I really don't understand that complaint. The knobs feel just fine. Strange.

Modor NF-1 soundscape II - The indefinable soul
video upload by MIDERA
"Yesterday, I was drawn to the Modor. Today... more of the same. I had come up with some patches that weren't played here, but eventually I recorded it... I'm finding some really cool things you can do with the looping envelopes. It's very useful when you use a different envelope to modulate the decay of a looped envelope. Anyway, here's soundscape II.

Modor NF-1 soundscape - The bell tolls call us home
video upload by MIDERA
"Here's the Modor NF-1 after I've had a chance to work my way around it. I really don't like the first 20 minutes of this, but I started working my way into a new patch at about half-way through. I'll try to mark the spot, but basically, I suddenly found myself in a new territory of sound. I didn't realize just how well the NF-1 could do organic sounds and seem like it's got physical modeling.
Hope you enjoy. Eventide Blackhole VST used for reverb, all other FX were generated within the Modor.

Making some patches with the Access Virus TI
video upload by MIDERA
"Just thought I'd make a video going through some patch-design focus on the Virus TI. I realized after recording that my camera was slowly shifting so eventually you will lose sight of the top row of parameters. Sorry about that.
Next time I'll try to do a soundscape with the Virus or MODOR NF-1.
No external FX used."

Modor NF-1 demo from scratch
video upload by MIDERA
"Recently got an NF-1. Here's just some noodling starting from scratch. Since I'm a bit new to this, I found myself accidentally doing things I didn't mean to do (like almost loading an INIT patch again). So pay no mind to most of what I do..."

Erica Synths Introduces EDU DIY SNARE DRUM
Designing a simple analog snare drum from scratch
video upload by Moritz Klein
"No drum machine is really complete without a punchy, snappy snare. Together with the kick, it creates the rhythmic backbone for most grooves.
So in my ongoing quest for creating a Roland-inspired modular drum machine, I knew I had to come up with a snare circuit that would complement the kick and hi-hat I‘ve already designed. After a lot of fine tuning, I landed on a circuit that can emulate a TR-606, TR-808 or TR-909 snare."

So for our percussion-focused second season of educational DIY kits, we knew we had to come up with a Snare circuit that would complement the Kick and Hi-Hat we’ve already released. After a lot of fine tuning, here’s what we came up with: introducing mki x es.edu DIY Snare Drum.
Features
Manual and CV controlled Tune
Tune CV depth attenuator
Manual Attack and Decay control
Manual and CV Snappy (noise and tone crossfade) control
Accent input

Modor DR-2 Drum Machine ( 15 minutes drums knob tweaking no talking )
video upload by Dziam Bass
"In this movie is some fun from hands with Modor DR-2 Drum machine. small drums improvisation mainly KNOB TWEAKING but of course this is incredible machine for programming up to 128 step . some tweaking with solo instruments and some on whole beats .
First of all: although it's digital, the DR-2 is not about sampling. It's a drum synthesizer, like a classic analog drum machine, but it uses digital sound synthesis algorithms instead of analog circuitry. There are no samples in the DR-2, and there's no sample memory.
Just like the Modor NF-1, the DR-2 is not build to recreate the classics of the past. The DR-2 uses digital sound synthesis to innovate drum sounds and rhythms. Many sounds will be recognizable. It is possible to make classic sounding bass drums, snares and rimshots. It's not difficult to program classic floorfillers with the DR-2. But with 12 synthesis parameters per drum, you'll easily find yourself creating your own individual sound."

Modor DR-2 drum machine & Akai MPC 1000 '' HIP HOP ''( no talking )
video upload by Dziam Bass
"Today I made some beats with Modor dr 2 drum machine.
I see most DR-2 demos are in the electronic genre so I went a step further and used the DR-2 in Hip Hop
It's a really great machine
All drums are from Modor dr-2, samples and bass from MPC1000
I don't want to say pros and cons .. just listen.
