"Audio demo of my Synton Syrinx. This one has been serviced and the power input changed from 220 to 110V.

The Syrinx uses seven Curtis chips for its VCO's, VCF's and envelopes. It has two analog VCO's, a sub-oscillator and three flexible voltage-controlled filters. You can switch between the three filters for either a 24 dB lowpass, or two bandpass filters, and they can be patched in four different ways (series/parallel). Additionally the Syrinx has two LFO's, FM, PWM, osc-sync, 2 ADSR envelopes, ring modulation, portamento and a cool touch-pad that can control various parameters from pitch-bending to the LFO rate. The Syrinx's Mixer section lets you adjust levels for each VCO and the sub-osc as well as the Noise Generator and Ring Modulator. Unfortunately, being released around 1983, the Syrinx just missed out on MIDI and patch memory options.

Oscillators - 2 VCO's (tri, saw, square, PWM) plus 1 sub-oscillator, ring modulation and noise gen.
LFO - 2
Filter - 2 Bandpass filters (Peak 1 & 2) and 1 Lowpass 24dB/oct filter. Individual cutoff and resonance controls, ADSR Envelope, Keyboard Tracking and LFO modulation
VCA - 2 ADSR filters (one can modulate the VCF)
Keyboard - 44-keys (3 1/2-octave, no velocity, low-note priority)
Arpeggiator - None
Sequencer - None
Memory - None
Control - CV / Gate (Moog type). Touch 'N Bend Pad.
Date Produced - 1983/84"

Felix Visser, the Man Behind Synton Has Passed Away

Some sad news in. Felix Visser, the man behind Synton and such synth clasics as the Syrinx, Fenix, 3000 series modular, and more, has passed away. He recently worked with This Is Not Rocket Science on their Fenix synthesizer as well as the inspiration behind the AnalogFX SER-2020. We lost one of the greats, a synth pioneer.

"Synton was a manufacturer and distributor of high-end electronic music equipment in the Netherlands. They were one of the principal importers of music equipment from E-Mu, Ensoniq, and Fairlight in Europe. Felix Visser, the founder of Synton began the company in 1973 after purchasing an EMS Synthi AKS and setting out to produce similar equipment with more of the functionality that he was looking for in an analog synth. Eventually, the company developed Synton Syntovox vocoders as well as the System 2000 and System 3000 modular synthesizers that were sold to Karlheinz Stockhausen and distributed in the United States by Bob Moog's Big Briar Inc. In 1983, Felix Visser, product specialist Marc Paping, and designer Bert Vermeulen created the Synton Syrinx, a monophonic analog synthesizer that contained unique features such as a metal touchplate for manipulating sound as well as a formant filter."

"The SER-2020 is a modern realization of the Synton Syrinx. Original owner, gently used and it was stored in the box most of the time. I got this to see what all the fuss was about and compare it to my own Syrinx eurorack filter adaptation. But alas, it's not clocking much studio time around here so I'm letting it go. Please note this is a version 1.0 production model purchased directly from AnalogFX. And it's green!...a color no longer being offered as it seems. Includes box, manual, USB cable to run MIDI host on computer, power supply w/ 4-pieces adapter prong assortment for USA and various worldwide countries. Did you know I offer a Synton Syrinx filter eurorack adaptation module called Gyrinx?"

"Rare vintage EPro Minisynth analog synthesizer keyboard. This was made in Holland in the early 1980s. Operates at 220v (you'll need a 110v step-up transformer to use in the USA, an approximately $30 part, we can make recommendations for one if needed just ask). Apparently only approximately 25 of these units were made, possibly made by the company DGS which had manufactured two synths, the Scorpion and this Mini-Synth. It looks similar to the Holland made Synton Syrinx from the same time period. This is a CEM based synthesizer with loads of CEM chips inside. It's in great shape for its age and fully functional. Sounds lovely, a unique rare synthesizer."

Towering Bass Patches | Gyrinx VCF Filter [Demo 5]

Today I'm auditioning a few humongous bass patches featuring the Gyrinx VCF, no effects. Feeding only a couple of 101-VCOs and Pittsburgh DNA Symbiotic Waves. Modulation by 2xADSR and Feedback Modules LFO, Sequenced by Keystep Pro. Headphones or good monitors recommended. Recorded direct to Tascam DR-05, no other mastering just a little normalization.

"Made in Holland in the early 80s the same period as Synton released their Syrinx synthesizer. According to Dutch Sources, Only 25 units are known to have been made and this is one of them! It is a fully CEM based synthesizer and you hear that. It sounds very warm. The synth has been serviced and is in good working condition.

Cosmetically it's in nice condition as well with only some minor scratches, some wear and tear, and the wooden side panels have little signs of use (see photos). Overall it's a great piece of history that deserves a good new home. It's a 220v version with a European plug installed, 220v step transformer required for USA power, and required for most countries outside the EU in general. The serial number is: 0158."
