The Quatuor features a ring modulator, a sample-and-hold circuit, white noise and an internal sequencer. You can create all kinds of sound effects and powerful bass lines; it’s ideal for the Berlin School, for example.
White Eagle: A great example of how to use the dual arpeggiator to play this magnificent classic track composed by Johannes Schmoelling and Chris Franke (Tangerine Dream) in 1982.
Stranger Things: The original sequence was played on an Oberheim Two Voices (by hand, apparently). Here, it’s the Quatuor’s sequencer!
"We say... A pre-owned Oberheim OB-X8 (Desktop) in very good condition. It comes with original packaging and power cable.
Manufacturer's description NEW functionality now available with OB-X8 OS v2.0 featuring:
Instant binaural mode pans individual voices hard left and right for true stereo operation Simultaneously selectable waveshapes for each oscillator extends timbral variety New 4-Pole low pass filter type with fuller bass at high resonance New VCO 1 and 2 level LFO modulation destinations for independent timbral mixing Arpeggiator clock sync now has selectable note division values for expanded rhythmic control Twice the Split and Double memory locations, including program storage directly in the new banks for 512 more stored sounds Separate MIDI channels for lower/upper split bi-timbral operation Poly chain for up to 32 voices with 4 connected instruments MPE for new levels of expressiveness
It’s the first song I ever played with a band back in high school, so getting this sound right has always mattered to me. The OB-X8 gets you very close straight away, but the details are what make it sit like the record.
During the guitar solo section I brought in portamento to match that glide you hear in the original, then switched it off for the keys solo so it snaps back to that tight, punchy feel.
That balance between accuracy and playability is exactly how I approach all my sound packs. They’re built to work in a real band setting, not just in isolation.
If you’re playing covers regularly, having these sounds ready to go changes everything.

OB-Xf is a continuation and modernization of the last open source version of OB-Xd by 2DaT and later discoDSP, bringing together several efforts going on in the audio space and combining them inside the Surge Synth Team infrastructure.
It is an amazing freely downloadable virtual synthesizer inspired by the venerable Oberheim OB-X.
The original Oberheim OB-X is one of the best analog poly-synths ever, used by Rush, Van Halen, Queen, Japan, Eurythmics, Ultravox, Tangerine Dream and many others.
It is a classic synthesizer with a timeless sound that continues to captivate musicians and producers alike. With its rich, full-bodied tones and expansive sound design capabilities, the OB-Xf is the perfect choice for those looking to add a vintage touch to their music.
The OB-Xf is a synthesizer that has been designed to recreate the sound and behavior of the Oberheim OB-X, OB-Xa and OB-8. However, the architecture of the original instruments was limited in some ways, so the OB-Xf includes a number of additional or altered features. Overall, the OB-Xf has been designed to produce a sound that is as good and as rich as the original OB-X.
Also, like many synths of the OB-X's generation, the OB-Xf has no internal effects so its sounds and textures can be greatly enhanced by the use of additional processing like chorus, reverb, delay, etc.
In this demo I will just let you hear what some amazing sound designers have made for this stunning synth simply by scrolling and playing some beautiful presets.
No additional effects or outboard processing here. What you listen is what you get!
"ARCADE ORCHESTRA is an epic reimagining of the biggest hits of the 80s. It will have all the elements of 80s pop - all the synths, drum machines, and production of the time - but with a much bigger, cinematic approach. Arcade Orchestra will be an immersive live experience and feature major guest artists, a live orchestra, a large percussion ensemble called STIKYARD, a world-class band, choir, and cutting-edge production.

"First of all, this is not a 'new gear review' videos. I don't do those. I don't get free modules from manufacturers to make a video and I already have tons of loopers in my collection (Morhpagene, Lubadh, etc), so why did I add StarDust? For me, the main reason is Frippertronics. It's an analog vintage tape technique developed by Brian Eno and Robert Fripp using one set of reels on two tape decks. So one records the second deck and the second is recorded by the first deck. Instead of a tape delay, you'd get a tape looper with endless overdubbing.
For me, personally, the sound of Robert Fripp's guitar immediately reminds me of Bowie's Heroes and Scary Monsters (listen to the 'Fashion' track if you don't know it). He's one of my Guitar Gods (Brian May, Fripp, The Edge, Manzanera, Eddie van Halen, and the list is not going on forever) but Fripp always gives me goosebumps because if his sustained sounds and textures. This video is definitely a tribute to Mr. Fripp so suit up!
StarDust is a great looper and it really fits my creative workflow (which is usually borrowed from the musicians I adore). I love to noodle on my Manzanera-inspired Firebird guitar, tuned to Fripp's New Standard Tuning of mostly fifths and one third on the high note to avoid snapping. I can't play, so for me it's a VCO with six strings.
How does it compare to the other major loopers? Well, Lubadh is dual mono which can be used for stereo too. It's great to have two reels that can run in opposite directions and it has an amazing tape emulation. Magneto is primarily a tape echo, but it can also loop as a tape machine and it has a spring reverb emulation (sure it's digital). If you're looking for a vintage tape echo with classic feedback, look no further. The Morphagene is a tape splicer where you have full control over splice points (cuts) and it can store many reels on SD card. It's also excellent for microsound explorations and fragment mangling. It can play three splices at once, with different note distributions (set on SD card). However, Morphagene is 'terrible' in retaining original pitch (green zone) and doesn't track V/OCT very well. You can set V/OCT support on the SD card, but you'd still need to dial in the correct varispeed and finetune. Most Morphagene users probably don't care about keeping in line. They just want to make noise.
BitBox MK2 is the T-REX of loopers which can loop 16 stereo loops at once, so you can use it as a true Loopstation. It can also detect or set splices, do granular stuff, time stretching, make multi-sample libraries and play samples polyphonically. There's simply nothing better, not even an ER-301. Did I miss one? Yes, the ADDAC 112 is also a great looper, but it's HUGE and the manual doesn't end.
If you're into live looping with built in FX, StarDust may be one of the best 'all in one solution' in Eurorack today. There are lots of shift-features, but you'll only need to remember a few of them. If you don't like the 'galaxy LED show', you may have lost the Child in your eyes."
"In this video, I'll show you how to get the the sounds of Van Halen's "Why Can't This Be Love?" on an Oberheim OB-8, the same synth used on the original song.
The upper patch, ABC 8, is called, 'Rock Unison.'
The lower patch, C7, is 'Farr's Funk.'"
"This sound set includes 100 new synth patches for the 3rd Wave, focused on the hybrid analog capabilities of the synth. Lots of classic/vintage synth inspired sounds, famous song patches, binaural stereo stacks and modern analog designs. https://sounddesign.sellfy.store/p/3r...
I've made hundreds of sound designs on this great synth, using all the various engines, including PPG, modern wavetables and the new sample engine -- but this sound set is focused entirely on the hybrid analog / VA capabilities of the synth. Dozens of famous song tone patches are included, and classic analog sounds inspired by legendary vintage synths: Sequential Prophets, Oberheim OBs, Roland Jupiters, Yamaha GX and CS, and Moogs, plus modern sound designs that take advantage of the extensive capabilities of the 3rd Wave.
The patches inspired by famous artists/songs include ones by: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, MUSE, Tears for Fears, Toto, The Cars, Boards of Canada, Prince, RUSH, Daft Punk, M83, Stranger Things, Blade Runner, Harold Faltermeyer, Foreigner, Journey, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, Talk Talk, Van Halen, Thom Yorke, Radiohead, Steven Wilson, Adam Holzman, Michael Jackson and more.
The demo video features about half the patches included in the soundset... there are 50+ more patches as well! The sound in the demo video is direct from the synth, using only onboard 3rd Wave effects, and no external effects added. The drums in a few of the demos are from a Roland TR-8S.

"In this Video I’ll show you how I made the 'Machine Gun Sound' in MJ’s 'Beat It'. It’s kind of a hidden sound, but it serves an important purpose in the orchestration of the song to create tension and energy just before Eddie Van Halen’s iconic guitar solo. This is one of many examples of the nuances that can be found in the arrangements of the songs on the album.
We’ll also shine the spotlight on Thriller engineer Bruce Swedien’s ability to know when and how to use a sound like this and when to get it out of the picture to create space for other sounds. This concepts can be applied to any style of music you are creating.
I made the original sound using an ARP 2600 & Dr. Click but you can re-create this sound on your VST with less effort.

"Classic Analog 16-Voice Multi-Timbral Polyphonic Synthesizer with 8 Vintage Modes, Dual VCFs and 61-Key Poly After-Touch Keyboard
Embrace the legacy and make your mark on history with the UB-Xa from Behringer. More than just a recreation of a classic synthesizer, we’ve made sure that the UB-Xa has all the bells, whistles and characteristics that came with the original, but it’s also filled to the brim with modern features such as velocity and after-touch, 512 user program memories and comprehensive MIDI implementation. This makes for a well-rounded synth that’ll make friends with anything in your setup.
Faithful Recreation and More
To recreate its iconic growl and sizzle, we dove deep into the inner workings of the original OB-Xa and brought them into the 21st century including all its original factory patches that made the 80s roar. Thanks to its VCOs and VCFs heavily based on the original 3340 and 3320 chip designs, 16 voices and the ability to split its keyboard so you can layer 2 different sounds, the UB-Xa is capable of conjuring up massive sounding riffs.
An Icon for the Icons
The UB-Xa is a synth like no other that stands on the shoulders of giants! Its legacy is what gave birth to the 80s most iconic hits from the world’s most famous artists! From Rush’s Geddy Lee, The Police, Prince to Van Halen, and even the iconic Terminator theme composed by Brad Fiedel, the UB-Xa’s lineage is filled only with the greats and now you can make your own mark on history as well."

Here it is. The OB-X8 Desktop Module. Be sure to click the pics for the full size shots.
Press release follows:
Oberheim Announces OB-X8 Desktop Analog Synth Module Fits Perfectly into Your Studio, Your Music, Your Life
San Francisco, CA — Oberheim today announced the much-anticipated desktop version of their highly acclaimed OB-X8 eight-voice analog synthesizer, which faithfully recreates sounds from the classic Oberheim OB-X, OB-Xa and OB-8 synthesizers of the eighties. And now all its presets, synthesis features, and sound editing controls are available in a compact package that fits everyone’s creative space.
“The original OB synths were jam-packed with components and took up a lot of space. There was no way you could contemplate getting even a four-voice version of that sound out of a desktop or rack-mount unit,” mused Tom Oberheim. “Well, here we are in 2023: eight voices of our amazing OB-X8 three-in-one synthesizer now comes in a size that fits your studio.”
The new OB-X8 desktop version does not include the 61-note Fatar keyboard and expression levers found in the original, but don’t let that stop you from experiencing all the sonic power of these monster synths in a footprint that’s compact enough for studios of any size, and convenient enough to take on the road.
Just like the keyboard version, the desktop OB-X8 boasts an identical sound engine, featuring an all-analog signal path with discrete VCOs, VCAs, and filters. And it still manages to provide the same knob-per-function front panel sound designing experience, with immediate access to virtually all the synth’s parameters.
“Bringing back the Oberheim brand has been a joy,” said David Gibbons, CEO. “And since the introduction of the OB-X8 keyboard in May 2022, we’ve heard an overwhelming desire for a desktop module version catering to those whose free studio space doesn’t quite match their enthusiasm for unique synth sounds.”
In the hands of such luminaries as Prince, Van Halen, and Herbie Hancock, Oberheim synths were more than just instruments, they provided the soundtrack of an era. Now a whole new generation of artists are discovering their voices through OB-X8. “When I was shown the new OB-X8, I was immediately impressed with the forensic level of detail that went into its design and the respect for its lineage,” said Trent Reznor, the creative force behind Nine Inch Nails, and an Academy Award-winning composer. “I’m excited more people will be able to experience this classic instrument.”
OB-X8 desktop module weighs approximately 9 lbs. 9 oz. (4.34 kg) and measures 22.00” L x 8.50” W x 4” H (55.88 cm x 21.59 cm x 10.16 cm).
The OB-X8 desktop module is available for pre-order now, with a US MAP price of $3,499. Shipping worldwide in June.
