iPad / iPhone Music Studio Jam - MusicBox - BabyHands (SoundPrism)

"Deep in the bowels of Lydian Studios, an mysterious humanoid with baby hands explores his musical virtuosity on the iPad...

...Aaron came up with this arrangement when playing with the lovely SoundPrism app. We recorded the performance you see to a basic drum loop, then Todd worked on some more detailed drum production afterwards. All of the synth material is straight out of the iPad with no editing, and check out the iPhone Bebot solo for extra comedy :)

Thanks must go to youtube hero 'paddatron' for his inspiring comment on the Mr. Sunshine guitar vid.

IDOW & MATRIXSYNTH Modular Pic of the Week - Week 1 Contest Winner!

"Our first winner of the Modular Pic of the Week contest goes to Henrik Nordvargr Björkk for his "Small portable setup for live use!"

Since 1988, Henrik Nordvargr Björkk has systematically explored the broad field of the post-industrial music scene. In parallel to his band activities, he has pursued a solo career with a vast amount of record releases. He is widely considered one of the most influential and productive post-industrial artists ever. You can check out his work at www.nordvargr.com.

----

We'd like to give a big thanks and congratulations to Henrik Nordvargr Björkk for his submission! We appreciated the personal touch to Henrik's set-up and photo. This is the 1st week of a 30-week contest, and we are looking forward to many more modular photo submissions, so please keep 'em coming! For details on how to submit and what you can win, see this post.

For more info on the upcoming 'I Dream of Wires' documentary, be sure to see the trailer and IndieGoGo fund raising campaign here."

Side note: I created an IDOW label for all posts pertaining to the film. You'll be able to look back at the weekly contest winners there as well.

PNW SynthFest Rocked!

And so does this guy. More on that in a sec.

First off, I promised SynthFest posts (FB site) would start today. Turns out it's took a bit longer to offload the video off my iPhone 4S and pics off my Canon Rebel T2i than expected. 26.51GB spread across 21 videos and 1.4GB spread across 212 pics. It literally took most of the day today (I had to step out for some family obligations - 'Puss in Boots') and a bit of the evening last night to offload everything. Tomorrow I will start the upload starting with pics.

Anyway, back to the pic. So why does this guy and for that matter this pic rock? Because that is Scott Jaeger, the man behind The Harvestman. On his shoulder? The digital Roland JD-800. This pic rocks in so many ways when you think about it. Aside from Scott rocking as usual, his company, The Harvestman's tagline is "Digital Audio Electronics." He is one of the most respected men in the modular and synthesis scene and he commands digital. The world of synthesis has had many vs. arguments in time, but probably the most notorious has been analog vs. digital and tactile knobs and sliders vs. menu driven synths. The Roland JD-800 attempted to bridge the gap at a time when analog was frowned on and most synths were primarily menu driven. Roland came out with an all digital rompler that had a slider laden interface historically (at the time) associated with analog synths. When you think of the history of synths you start with not only analog, but modular. It all started with modular synths. Then came self contained analog synths, followed by digital. In the last decade we saw the resurgence of the modular scene primarily via analog modules. The Harvestman not only explored digital in the modular market, but embraced it, with "Digital Audio Electronics." And there he is, the man behind it all with the JD-800 in hand. That Rocks. And yes, that is one heavy synth. Thanks goes to Computer Controlled for pointing that out in the comments.
