KORG PolySix Vintage Analog Synthesizer SN 466735

via this auction

Oberheim OBX 6 Voice SN 806508

via this auction on eBay Austria.

"In 1978 Oberheim presented the OBX polyphonic synthesizer.

It has a very organic, warm and powerful sound, much richer than it’s later versions, OBXa and OB8. This is probably because of it’s discrete circuitry design of the voiceboards, only the ENV’s were made with Curtis CEM3310 IC’s.

The OBX is probably one of the best sounding analog synths ever made, the sound is very close to the legendary Oberheim SEM.

This particular instrument has been restored by the previous owner and a lot of the typical OBX problems have been solved.
Power supply caps and most of all other caps have been changed, some of the trimmers and molex connectors overworked, cleaned and checked.

It also has been upgraded with an Encore Midi Upgrade (In, Out, Thru). The Midi kit is not available at Encore electronics anymore..."

SOPA PIPA POST

There's a post title for you. I wasn't sure if I was going to put a main post up on the blackout or just have the splash screen. I was putting up the video below and decided a main post would be a good idea.  It will archive my message and any others from the synth community that come in.  If you have a site with a message on SOPA and PIPA, feel free to comment or email it in at matrixsynth at gmail.com.  I'll add it to the list below.

Here's my message from the front page flash screen with searchable text and links for the archives (screenshot to the left):

"MATRIXSYNTH Shuts Down? It could happen.

January 18 is the Internet Blackout day in protest of SOPA and PIPA. If you think they do not affect you, think again. If you are not familiar with SOPA and PIPA, see the video here: http://www.fightforthefuture.org/pipa.

"The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill."

Think about that. Simply linking to another site or embedding a piece of work containing copyright material could result in your internet presence being taken down. Watch the video. Think about all the demos featured here. Think about your music and your Internet presence. Demo a new piece of gear using a clip of copyrighted music, and not only is it gone, but your entire site or account is gone.

MATRIXSYNTH will stay open today, but please do think about the impact SOPA and PIPA could have on you. Also see this article on Wikipedia. You can sign a petition minus your address on Google here.

See if your senator supports PIPA here.

Click below to enter MATRIXSYNTH for new posts.
This message will remain up for the day."

Wikipedia black-out: foreground/background sonification

YouTube Uploaded by ptemmi on Jan 18, 2012

"On 18th january 2012. Wikipedia blacked out his english pages due to the piracy laws going to introduced in the US. In this video example the system separates the blacked out page to background and foreground, and threates them differently in order to make sounds from the pixel contents. The sonification process affects the picture as well, some parts will be deleted, some will be underlying - like in the reality.

NAMM: The RapcoHorizon I-JAM 3-N-1 Box

"THE RAPCOHORIZON COMPANY SHOWCASES
i-JAM 3-n-1 AT THE 2012 NAMM SHOW

ANAHEIM, CA, JANUARY 19, 2012 ― The RapcoHorizon Company, a leading manufacturer of audio/video interfacing and cable equipment, is exhibiting the i-JAM 3-n-1 Smart Phone Interface at the 2012 NAMM Show (Booth 4558, Hall C). The i-JAM 3-n-1 is a three-in-one smart phone solution, ideal for every electric instrument player. In addition to its ability to interface with iPhone apps, such as recording and instructional play software, the i-JAM 3-n-1 also features a built-in amplifier and MP3 play along practice device.

Similar to the company’s i-BLOX, the i-JAM 3-n-1 serves as an audio interface that connects an instrument to iPhone applications. What’s different is that the built-in amplifier affords electronic musicians the ability to render the amplification of their instruments without additional equipment. The MP3 play along feature is also the perfect application for early learners to get their footing.

“Our customers were really excited about the i-JAM 3-n-1’s features when we first exhibited it at last year’s NAMM Show,” says Lucas McCulley, marketing specialist for The RapcoHorizon Company. “For musicians on the go, the i-JAM 3-n-1 has proven to be must-have piece of gear as it combines three interfacing solutions into a singular, portable device.”
To use the built-in amplifier, musicians can simply plug their instrument into the input and connect their basic speakers or headphones to the output jack, turn the interface on and jam away. The integrated circuitry and design of the box provides low noise operations and ensures a rich, clean, smooth sound. The practice amplifier does not require an amplification application but players are welcome to use one of their choosing.

Musicians can also use the built-in amplifier simultaneously with any MP3 player, for practice or small impromptu performances. By connecting their instrument, small speakers or headphones and an MP3 output device, users can play along with their favorite tracked music – whether it is their original work or a song by their favorite artist.

“For on-the-spot auditions, the i-JAM 3-n-1 is a great tool for local artists,” continues McCulley. “Ideal for players novice to expert, it’s an excellent tool to teach or be taught.”

As the most recent addition to The RapcoHorizon Company’s iPhone interfaces, the i-JAM 3-n-1 boasts a sleek aluminum design ready for any wear and tear. An added belt clip allows musicians to safely secure the box to their side, providing maximum portability. The interface operates off a 9Volt easily replaceable battery, which allows for extended play time.

The RapcoHorizon Company, located in Jackson, Missouri, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of audio, video, home theater, data and telecommunications cable in both bulk wire and assemblies. Used worldwide by concert touring sound companies, video and sound contractors, recording studios, system integrators, audiophiles and musicians, The RapcoHorizon Company’s products provide optimal flexibility and premium performance. The company’s state-of-the-art Custom Shop can modify existing products or build new devices to meet any need. Buchla Swinging and Generating Triplets

YouTube Uploaded by dkimcg on Jan 17, 2012

"the 1/4 note sound and the swinging triplet playing sound generated from the same 1/4 note pulse. Based on DougCL's swinging clock tip as demonstrated by 7thDanSound. [this post]

Not a musical statement, mainly a study in swinging and triplets generated from a simple pulse.

I knew you could make triplets without a standard 1/3 divider.
And I thought it was pretty cool to be able to sequence swing and triplets from the 250e. :D

Only problem is I still can't figure out how to keep a tempo and swing a note before the clock without faking it by swinging the previous note way late to fake the early note w/o patching the pendulum's tempo with a quick negative modulation and syncing the pendulum to a master midi clock. Any ideas, if that makes sense?"
