MOOT MODS #1: Mootifying the ARP Odyssey

Published on Oct 19, 2016 mootbooxle

"This is the first episode of Moot Mods, in which I demonstrate things I've built, electronics and instruments that I've modified, and stuff like that!

In this episode, I demonstrate the ARP Mootifier - a little box that adds functionality to the ARP Odyssey that some people may not know is possible!"

Great tip on how to make an Odyssey monophonic rather than duophonic.

ROTOR iPad Music App by reactable. Tutorial 1 (First steps)

iTunes: ROTOR - Tangible Modular Music Synth - Reactable Systems SL

"The all-new iPad app by Reactable.

reactable ROTOR is the new application that extends upon the unique interaction and the genuine modular approach once popularised by the reactable tabletop. reactable took the electronic music world by storm, captivating musicians such as Björk or Coldplay among others, who toured with the first prototypes. Commercially available for several years, the reactable Experience and the reactable Live! are still dream machines that not everyone can afford, nor carry in their backpack... until today!"

Jupiter Clone - Voice Board PCB first sounds

Published on Oct 18, 2016 tiergrinder

"First sounds from the Jupiter 'Heart' PCB.
This is recorded right after I got the first board finished and oscillators tuned.

Each PCB contains two Jupiter '8' voices. Each packing with 2 VCO's, Osc Sync, Cross Modulation, All the VCF and VCO modulations and 2 envelope generators.

These voicing PCB's are controlled with 30-wire ribbon cable that sends the slider and pot data each board."

Special Black & Orange ARP 2600 Vintage Analog Synth With Keyboard

via this auction

via the seller: "This 2600 is special. I have photos of Alan Pearlman with this particular synth. I've owned it for 20 years, and it's been lovingly maintained and restored by Chip @ Curtis Electronics in Planview NY, a former ARP technician himself. This particular model has unpotted modules, and is incredibly stable. The duophonic keyboard is included and working. One speaker is dead- but the output is still working. Some slider shafts are broken in the inverter section, but still work. Custom 1/8" mogami patch cables are included, and the case lids are present too."

Cwejman MMF-1S Tweak Demo

Published on Oct 18, 2016 Dudadius

"The MMF-1S offers seven switchable filter types and for some of them two selectable slopes. In combination this equals eleven different filter:

Low pass with -12 or -24dB per octave
High pass with -12 or -24dB per octave
Bandpass with -6 or -12dB per octave
Three dual band passes: dual peak, upper peak, lower peak
Single notch (in -12dB setting), dual notch (in -24dB setting)
The show stopper is that in the dual modes the distance between the two resonance peaks can be adjusted with the voltage controllable parameter SPACING which is great for creating vocal sounds!

The two audio inputs both have individual level controls; cutoff and resonance of course are voltage controllable. The Q PEAK MODE switch determines whether the resonance starts to oscillate in its maximal setting or not. The filtered signal is emitted at the MMF socket.

The second part of the module is comprised of a saturation stage which distorts the signal in a nonlinear fashion. Besides the voltage controllable Saturation parameter which sets the amount of saturation, there's a 2ND HARM control emphasizingthe second order harmonics.

A compressor with three selectable compression rations (1:1, 3:1 and 20:1) is integrated in the saturation stage as well.

The saturated signal is available at the MIX VCA socket, yet the result depends on the VCA/MIX switch and the MIX control:
In switch position "MIX" the MIX parameter blends between the original signal (AUDIO 1&2) and thefiltered/saturated result (SAT). This can be voltage controlled via the "CV VCA-MIX" socket.

In switch position "VCA" the MIX control has no effect and the CV input "VCA-MIX" turns into the VCA's CV input."

Update:

Cwejman MMF-1S revised Tweak Demo

"This version explores the Saturation output and runs through the different filter modes as well."

Hawkeye - Fuel (dawless live Kawai K5000, Roland V-Synth, Alesis A6)

Published on Oct 18, 2016 Maelstroem3

"Hey, had a little fun with some samples from an old car information system - 1980s era - this reminds me of childhood and i especially love the modulation on the "door is *open*" sample. Man, you forgot to close it! Bad driver! :-)

All was recorded live directly to a 2-channel tascam .wav recorder, just added a little bit of compression after recording. No DAW was abused!

Gear in use:
* Roland V-Synth for sample and slight sample manipulation
* overexcessive use of a Strymon Big Sky
* Kawai K5000r for additive pad stuff in the middle section, modulating the harmonic spectrum with the K5000 datawheel :)
* Alesis A6 with a slightly over-time-detuned (yes, this was intentional) lead
* FS1r for the first FM-bassline
* Little Phatty through DIY Polivoks for the second bassline
* E-MU Ultra and Elektron Machinedrum for drums
* all sequenced by the almighty MIDIbox SEQ v4, thanks to Thorsten Klose, this sequencer allows so many people to go completely DAWless and have fun without pushing a mouse :-)

Thanks for watching and listening, hope you had some fun!
