Roland RE-301 Space Cat (Roland Chorus Echo tape delay with Octave Cat)
Published on Jan 2, 2017 Earmonkey Music
"Happy New Year! Got my setup back together and I'm ready to get the new year started with more videos! This is a short little jam/demonstration of the Roland RE-301tape delay. I have a 16-step sequence running on the Octave Cat and start it off dry so you can hear what it sounds like on its own. Then the RE-301 just does its thing. It's like having another instrument almost. All effects are coming from the RE-301. No other processing other than some EQ and then compression on the Arturia Drumbrute. I tried to show the various delay lengths, a little bit of the spring reverb, the Chorus circuit, and what you can do with the Sound on Sound switch (which really makes things get crazy). This is an incredible sounding unit. If you can find one, I highly recommend picking one up. It is so choice"
Yamaha CS-60: "Carry On" by Raymond Castile
Published on Jan 2, 2017 raycastile
"Hello. Here is another entry in my series of Yamaha CS-60 videos. Once again, no video of me playing. Instead, you get a mesmerizing cloudscape. This piece required a lot of multi-tracking and a lot of takes, so it didn't lend itself to a live performance video.
I called it 'Carry On.' Reminds me of British things, like the 'Keep Calm' slogan and the Carry On film series. But it's not deliberately referencing those things. I was thinking of how someone carries on despite setbacks and disasters, when it would be easier and less painful to quit.
The path ahead is dark and mysterious, portending doom, but you walk forward, unsteady and unsure, but you keep moving and hoping. Then another setback hits you, knocks you down, laughs at you as you tumble. You sit there a bit, gathering the nerve to continue, then you start again. But this time, you're more sure of yourself. The setback gave you strength. Finally, you are striding confidently into the future, though secretly there is still a little doubt. Listen to the piece with this description in mind and you will see how it matches step by step."

"I bought these years ago from somebody who claimed these belonged to Billy Cobham. It makes sense as he is a Tama endorser. When I asked Billy about these units, he had no recollection of them.
It appears intended to use with drum-mounted pickups. However i was able to experiment & clock it with a Doepfer Shaltwerk, Roland TR-606 & new Roland TB-03.

2nd Oscillator versus Waveform Animator
2nd Oscillator versus Waveform Animator from Learning Modular on Vimeo.
"Lots of semi modular synths - such as the popular Moog Mother-32 - have only one VCO. A popular addition to these is a second VCO. But have you considered a waveform animation module as an alternative? In this video I demonstrate both approaches, and cover some side issues like the need to have an inverting mixer in your system, and the advantages of having a more capable MIDI to CV converter than may be built into your semi modular synth. For more background and tips, see the accompanying article: http://learningmodular.com/second-oscillator-or-waveform-animator/"
