New Roland Boutique SE-02 Analog Synthesizer - Designed by Studio Electronics

Published on Jun 20, 2017 RolandChannel

I believe discussions on the joint project began two years ago back at NAMM 2015. While there, I ran into Studio Electronics at the Moog booth who asked me to please keep it under wraps for obvious reason. Yes I can keep a secret. It's great to see this collaboration come to life. Congrats to both Studio Electronics and Roland!

Update: price is apparently only $499.

"The Roland SE-02 Analog Synthesizer is a collaborative effort from Roland and Studio Electronics, that uses authentic discrete circuitry to create an analog synth with a distinctly American sound.

The Roland SE-02 synthesizer has all of the warm, rounded bass tones and smooth, glassy leads that you would expect from its all-analog architecture.

But a new generation of synthesists, producers and musicians requires a new sound, and the Roland SE-02 goes far beyond into inspiring sonic territories.

Explore the power of its performance sequencer, over 500 expertly-crafted preset patches, its complex oscillator and filter modulations with XMOD and FEEDBACK, and in-built delay. Discover thick textures, percussive patches and ethereal effects for a whole new dimension to a classic sound.

The Roland SE-02 Analog Synthesizer is the first product in the new Roland Boutique Designer Series. This series, debuting in a partnership with Studio Electronics, a leader in excellence and ingenuity in analog synthesizer design since 1988. Makers of the revered MidiMini, SE-1, ATC-1, Omega 8, CODE 8, Boomstar, and Tonestar. Premium quality musical instruments hand built in the USA."

Terminator 1984 Piano Remix w/ Digitakt

Published on Jun 19, 2017 Nostalgic Ruckus

"To one of my favorite 80s movies. The piano track is taken from the end credits of the original 1984 film The Terminator. Sampling with Digitakt using Analog Heat for saturation. Each track has a different start and end point of the piano along with some detuning. The 2 drum tracks are stock Digitakt drums tweaked."

Space-Time Distortion Near Track Number 8 (Experimental Music & Video)

Published on Jun 19, 2017 Mark Mosher

"Story:
I discovered a space-time distortion while visiting Chicago. The location of the anomaly is at track 8 at Union Station. Here is the video (which gets more trippy as you go along) to prove it.

http://www.MarkMosherMusic.com

Artist Notes:

This audio and video was captured in one real-time pass to a Zoom Q4N. The primary source video for 90% of the visuals is from the overhead view of the live studio session. The only other footage is a video field recording from Chicago's Union Station also recorded on the Zoom Q4N. The audio was not edited when I added video effects in post.

The audio field recording was extracted the Zoom Q4N video shot at Union Station. It's mangled pretty heavily in this piece put if you listen closely, you can hear an automated voice informing you that you are at track 8 and 10. Interestingly, the speakers at the station are not directional and the audio is at different loop lengths - so just wandering about between these gates is a trippy polyrhythmic treat.

Perhaps this will end up on Sonic Encounters Volume 02. Check out Sonic Encounters Volume 01 http://sonicencounters.com/

Instrumentation and Instrumentalities:

The piece is a combination of live sequencing and live performance. The Octatrack is used to host drum samples and recording. It is also used to MIDI sequence 3 synth slots on the Nord Lead 4 including MIDI automation. I perform live using all 4 slots on the Nord plus manipulate the Octatrack in real-time. Lots of real-time sound design and morphing. All the groovy synth sounds are exclusive to Nord Lead 4 all being created in real-time (meaning no synth audio was pre-recorded)."

Expert Sleepers Disting MK4 Demo of a few of the sound generators and effects

"The patches in this video demonstrate a few of the sound generators and effects algorithms in the Expert Sleepers Disting MK4 including the VCO with Waveshaping, Bit Crusher, Resonator, Tape Delay, LP/HP Filter, and Phaser.

The Expert Sleepers Disting is a powerful 16-in-1 multifunctional module in a compact 4HP. The module provides an array of audio and CV operations, with each of its algorithms corresponding to two inputs/outputs, with additional control and CV inputs. The module also now features a matrix screen on the front panel for easier navigation and ease-of-use.

"I have owned a lot of analog polysynths, and this one has a unique character that is unlike the Roland Junos or the Korg polysix. Part of that is because it is dual OSC and can do a lot more than those synths. But also, it just sounds refreshingly different. It reminds me just a little of an Akai AX-80 in that it doesn't sound like anything else, but it delivers that classic analog sound; very warm and very large. The lack of dedicated knobs or sliders is not as big of an issue as you might think. Programming is very intuitive, and being able to name your presets is a real luxury. There is no better deal than the Kawai SX-240 when it comes to obtaining a dual OSC (with SUB OSC), analog polysynth with all the features that this has. The effects are the icing on the cake with a rich Chorus, Portamento, Hold and Glissando. AND there is a sequencer."

Vintage Moog The Rogue Analog Mono Synthesizer w/custom Case SN 4866

"Here's another piece of analog synth history, the classic Moog Rogue (one of the last mono Moogs, and one of the last models to be made all in-house).

Overall working condition is great; the noise slider (in the mixer/overdrive section) is a little finicky and sometimes causes sound to cut out. It's probably a connection that needs cleaning and/or soldering... definitely a small fix, as I seldom have run into issues, and only when I'm live tweaking that slider.

Additionally, the pitch and mod wheels have some paint on them (pictured) but this doesn't in any way affect performance. All other knobs/sliders function brilliantly, and the sound is...well...there's simply nothing like it (except maybe, the MiniMoog)

The auction includes a custom-built hard case with foam inserts (pictured). "
