[DEMO] Roland MC-09
Published on Jul 16, 2017 Philip+
"I had this Roland MC-09 since the beginning of 2017. It is a good specimen of a very decent groovebox, with two synth parts (one bass and one lead), one drum part, a four-track looper and a very basic effects unit. Each of the synth voices are full-fledge monosynths, with one oscillator one low pass filter (modelled after the TB-303), one LFO and full ADSR envelope. Editing the sounds is possible using the front panel, but you will need to have the manual near by, as there are no clear marking regarding this feature on the front panel, and the messages from the 3-digit display are a little bit cryptic."

How To Kick (a discussion of kick drum synthesis)
Published on Dec 23, 2019 Oscillator Sink
"Welcome to the first video in a series where we'll be talking about drum and percussion synthesis. Throughout the series the Volca Drum will be used for the examples, but the ideas discussed will happily translate to many other synths.
We're kicking things off (ha ha) with kick drums - the centre-piece of beat based electronic music. Starting with the classic 'all-in-one-oscillator' approach, we'll expand on that to look at how having separate voices for the 'thwack' and 'boom' can really help you tailor your sound."
