Modular Moog Analog Sessions by Riccardo Fassi

Published on Mar 30, 2020 Riccardo Fassi

"This set of recordings was conceived as a spontaneous improvisation inspired by the sound of Moog Modular systems in all their infinite possibilities. The idea is to use these wonderful vintage instruments in an open way to make immediate and compelling music. Modern technology offers unlimited possibilities, but it is precisely the apparent limitations of these "electronic dinosaurs" that unfold endless tonal resources and effects to produce boundless and novel solutions. I want to thank the great drummer Davide Pettirossi for the fantastic groove in the songs Slow Cat and B. Groove.

"Learning to program the Korg Wavestate keyboard.

A pretty simple but fun exercise in pitch and wave sequencing. Layer A & B have complimentary pitch sequences and layer C is a separate mallet pitch sequence. Layer D is for the played line which contains a wave sequence from flute to string sounds. The modulation knobs are controlling the timing and pitch sequences on layer A & B. The Mod wheel is controlling the Amp Envelope release duration on layer D. Vector stick is just for layer volume.

Thanks for watching!"

"The Organ Machine" combo organ CV interface and how it works (ADCs and multiplexers!)

Published on Apr 5, 2020

"The interface circuits we designed and built for 'The Organ Machine' allow a vintage combo organ or other instrument with a divide-down architecture to be controlled with control voltage sequencers, with a separate CV input for each octave. Each octave of the organ is used as the core of a separate synthesizer voice after being fed through the envelopes and filters of a Music From Outer Space modular synth and Buchla clone low pass gates. In this video, Darian demos the instrument and Alison explains how it works, with an explanation of what ADCs (analog to digital converters) and multiplexers do.

This isn't the kind of thing we usually do, but we thought it might be fun to share this weird DIY project while everyone's at home because of the Coronavirus!

"Hope everyone's staying safe and avoiding the 'ronies. Had a camera battery go bad on me, so pardon the delay. The K2000 was pretty advanced for it's time and hugely popular in the 90's, especially for composers and the few sound designers bold enough to learn the V.A.S.T. engine."

James Newman Audio Illustrator - Way Out (Finding God) & Free Music

Supporting MATRIXSYNTH member, James Newman, aka Audio Illustrator has made his collection of music on BandCamp free for all.

Way Out (Finding God), above, is his latest in a Pink Floyd style. Here is what he had to say about it:

"Way Out (Finding God)" is a musical portrait of the soul.

When life paints us in a corner, we look for a way out.

Some say there is no way out...but there is ONE who is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE, He is our way out.

I have tried to capture both the struggle and anguish of the soul that thirsts for what's real and true about this life and the next. From the hopelessness and fear of the unknown, to the power and knowledge and understanding of the ONE who made us...He is our way out.
