"I was keen to try the Syntakt with my small Eurorack. With the new scales feature, this is probably the best box for external Midi. I trigger two voices in the Rack: Basimilus Iteratas Alter and Manis Itertitas. Both run then through a filter and into Imitor Versio. Slow modulation is coming from Maestro. I feed the audio back into Syntakt and run the full signal through Oto Boum for compression and drive. Have fun!"

Polyend Play takes an open sandbox approach for creating and performing grooves, with the freedom to instantly mix things up with tons of different playback functions.

Flexible sequencing with 8 audio tracks and 8 polyphonic MIDI tracks for controlling your outboard gear – Polyend Play really wants to be at the center of your studio. This is quite possibly the most fun groovebox ever created.

Play

Pick & Place. Find your sound among over 3000 included samples and place it anywhere on the grid to start building your tracks.

Select & Adjust. Easily adjust step parameters independently with familiar sample-based controls at your disposal. Make each track your own with 35 different play modes, Chance and Action Combo, Randomizer and Step Repeater functions. Stuck for inspiration? Utilize the Smart Fill option to automatically fill any area you choose with an entire beat, a random placement of steps, or even a Euclidean spread.

Quickly move data around, such as Steps, Tracks, Track Pages, Variations, and Patterns, with simple selection and copy/paste controls.

Keep it musical with scale filtering, allowing only notes within the selected scale to be outputted by the entire sequence.

Perform

Perform mode allows you to make non-destructive changes to your tracks, via performance effects including Tune, Filter, Overdrive, Rearranger, Space and much more.

Sequence

8 internal audio tracks and 8 individual polyphonic MIDI tracks combine for powerful integration with your existing instruments.

Full MIDI capabilities with flexible MIDI CC mapping per track for the individual rotary knobs and you can connect an external controller for MIDI note input. Plus, you can output chords, arpeggios, program and bank changes, pitch bend, clock and much more.

Over 30,000 track variations are available! That’s 128 Patterns holding 16 tracks, with each individual track holding up to 16 variations.

Control your synths and drum machines on individual tracks with the ability to output a separate set of MIDI values per track.

In addition to the pair of balanced TRS outputs there is a high quality headphone driver with its own independent level control.

The stereo balanced outputs feature high quality low impedance differential line drivers. These are designed to drive long cable lengths and operate equally well with balanced transformer or transformerless inputs.

A pair of high quality balanced 1/4" cables are included with the cuïr. These cables are braided, 150cm long, shielded and feature gold plated TRS contacts. At Superbooth 2022, Fred’s Lab announce working on its new machine: the Manatee

The Manatee is an ode to the golden era of digital machines with personality, together with modern twists and a crystal clear sound quality. With reminiscences of electric organ tones and out-of-this-world but beautifully contained harshness, the Manatee unveils new sound exploration paths.

Loosely inspired by digital classics, the Manatee excels at producing dark & moody pads, snappy or round bell like tones and behaves very well in known VA (virtual analog) territory. At the frontier between the beloved wavetable and the unconventional additive synthesis, by fusing a complex procedural spectral source with a top notch realtime re-sampler, the Manatee allows any musician to efficiently alter their sound timbre as they discover.

Besides the spectral generator, a versatile sub-oscillator (including FM features) and a filtered noise source (with variable sample rate) are on the menu. The sound get further refined thanks to the great sounding filter, and an extra tuned resonator followed by the overdrive module. A per-part stereo delay is also there.

Built like a tank, using only industrial grade pots, switches and connectors, the Manatee is a professional piece of gear and there to last. Would it need repairs, like with all Fred’s Lab products, service instructions including complete schematics are part of the user manual. Latest firmware can be downloaded from our website.

Although product research and development is self-founded, Fred’s Lab needs additional finances to make this machine production ready (to cover lab testing, procurement costs, tooling, production line rental & associated setup costs...).

Fred’s Lab will eventually run a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter (no date to be announced) to produce a limited first run of 150 machines.

The two machines presented @ Superbooth 2022 (so-called “Superbooth Edition”) will be sold on auction, also to help financing the project development. Auctions will take place on Ebay, on the 14/06/2022.

Shakmat Announces Four New Modules at SUPERBOOTH22

Belgium-based eurorack company Shakmat, known for their performance-oriented modules, are announcing four new modules for this Superbooth 22. Pretty known for their hands on sequencers and sound processors, Shakmat now focuses on synthesis with a set of 3 analog modules and a compact triple envelope.

Banshee Reach

This 8HP module is not really a new one as we teased it in September in Berlin under the name Banshee Set. After passionate feedbacks and beta testers comments, the UI was completely redesigned in order to propose a compact, versatile and live oriented analog VCO. Besides a series of features already announced last year (varishape, sub generator and thru-zero modulation), the new version has an octaver function which freezes the fine knob and turns the coarse knob into an octave switch covering 9 octaves. Never detune your VCO by turning that tune knob by accident again!
