TUTORIAL / STEP 8 and SELECT 2 for a sequence with 1 random step

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"In a previous patch walkthrough video I said that there's a way to create a sequnce with STEP 8 but use SELECT 2 (and COMPARE 2) to make one (or more) of those steps random. This is the tutorial video to watch if you want to find out how to do exactly that.

I hope you find it inspiring.

Tip: combined with the technique explained in the following video you can really create interesting harmonic changes for one or several voices in a patch, with a touch of random so you can easily afk without anyone ever knowing:"

PATCH WALKTHROUGH / STEP 8 / doing a lot of 'sequency' things with just one sequencer

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"It's something that I find myself doing often: making a short sequcence, then transposing it every x amount of steps while using the cv that's transposing the lot as a pitch source for a bassline (works great for a chord generator as well). STEP 8 is a wonderful tool for this as it gives us both a sequence and cv for transposing and a way to randomize the progression within set boundaries. That - amongst other things - is what this video is about."

The Oberheim DMX drum machine has left an indelible mark on the soundscape of popular music, crafting the rhythmic foundation of timeless tracks across a spectrum of genres.

From the driving beats of New Order‘s “Blue Monday” and Madonna‘s “Holiday” to the foundational rhythms of Run-D.M.C.‘s “It’s Like That,” the infectious Phil Collins’ “Sussudio”, the seminal Hip Hop/Electro jam Davy DMX’s “One For The Treble” or the uplifting grooves of Eurythmics’ 1983 album, its influence is unmistakable. Even Daft Punk‘s “Discovery” album owes a nod to the DMX.

We included all of the original DMX sounds from its launch in 1981, as well as the updated DMX sounds introduced around 1983. We’ve complemented the DMX sound set with the DX and the Sequential Drumtraks ones plus many alternatives.
