Music For Clouds with Mutable Instruments Rings and Beads

video upload by Mega Modularis

"Hello There! This is a generative ambient piece I made recently, which is primarily Rings (Rangoon by Big T Music) fed into I think the Mimeophon before going into Beads, with some gentle modulation from my two beloved Ochds! Enjoy! I didn’t actually film the making of the patch or anything, but I had this nice mesmeric cloud footage, and I thought they went well together, I’ve always thought of Rings + Clouds (and/or Beads) as ‘Cloud Music’ What do you think? Let me know If i should share more stuff like this? Longer musical pieces without any commentary.

All the footage I shot myself on my Fuji X-E4 in my backyard!

Enjoy, MM."

Behringer Working on FPGA Based Elka Synthex Clone

Note the top pic appears to be the development environment while the bottom two are of a vintage Synthex. According to Behringer their Synthex is a couple years out:

"Recreating the Magic of the Elka Synthex

The Elka Synthex, a synthesizer from the early 1980s, is cherished for its rich, warm sound and unique character. Musicians like Jean-Michel Jarre and Duran Duran have used it to create iconic tracks, solidifying its place in music history. Designed by Mario Maggi and produced by the Italian company Elka, the Synthex has a storied past.

At Behringer, we're working to revive the Elka Synthex with a dedicated team of top-notch R&D engineers in Italy, where the original was created. Using advanced Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), we're able to replicate the original circuitry and signal paths, capturing the essence of its distinctive sound.

The Role of FPGA’s

FPGAs help us recreate the immensely complex inner workings of the Synthex, ensuring we maintain its unique tonal qualities while improving reliability and performance. The two large chips in the center of the main board are Xylinx FPGA’s.

Honoring a Classic

Our goal is to make the classic sound of the Elka Synthex available to today’s musicians, combining its vintage appeal with modern technology. This passion project aims to respect the legacy of the Synthex while providing the enhancements needed for contemporary use.

Bringing back the Synthex

Stay tuned as we work to bring the Elka Synthex back to life, celebrating its history and sound with the same passion and innovation that marked its original creation.

This 'labor of love' project will take a few years, but it’ll be worth the wait as the Synthex is one of the most iconic synthesizers of all times. Send some love to Matteo and his R&D team."

YAMAHA CS-40M - Review, Sounds & Demo | Analog Synthesizer

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"Explore the unique and rare Yamaha CS-40M, a 2-note polyphonic synthesizer that shares the legendary CS80’s fat, rich sound thanks to its sub-oscillator per oscillator configuration.

The CS-40M features a distinct architecture with its sub-oscillators positioned after the high-pass filter, allowing for the creation of truly unique and interesting sounds. It boasts the same low/high-pass filter as the CS80 and CS70M (the IG00156) but with added versatility due to its bandpass mode, which offers more flexibility compared to the CS80's single filter.

One of the standout features of the CS-40M is its 5 modulation routes. Each route operates at the same speed but offers its own waveform choice and depth. You can modulate either or both oscillators, the filter, the amp’s ADSR, or the entire synth. The ring modulator can also be introduced to modulate the whole synth at a different speed, creating an incredibly dynamic soundscape.

Produced in limited quantities between 1979 and 1986, the CS-40M is a rare gem in the synth world. While it includes 20 presets similar to the Jupiter 4, these presets aren’t tweakable. However, the live panel interface, akin to the MiniMoog, is user-friendly, responsive, and satisfying to use.

With its 44-note full-size keyboard and synth action, the CS-40M is a joy to play and can be seen as a 2-note polyphonic version of the CS70M.
