Behringer Xenyx 802, 4MS Autonomous Bassline Generator, Ciat-Lonbarde Tetrazzi Organus

The signal path is:
Tetrazzi Organ (stereo) > M-Resonator (stereo) > channel on mixer
ABG / Nebulophone > channel on mixer
FX send on mixer: Holy Grail > Meat Box > channel on mixer
mixer > amplification+sound!"

via Josh of addicted to noise:
"I've started up a site that's dedicated to doing reviews, samples, holding discussions and soon to feature video reviews of music hardware for experimental artists. Will be covering a lot of different devices very soon--for now the only review I have finished is for the DOD FX32 Meat Box, but I have plans to cover some of the Andromeda Space Rockers kits, the Ciat-Lonbarde Tetrazzi Organus, Jomox M-Resonator, etc, all in a fashion that will favor people of an experimental nature. I feel like this is a presence that is lacking amongst all the guitar effects demos on YouTube and on other sites; not enough thinking that strays from the path."

Yellow Rollz Of Peace (for Kira)

Published on May 28, 2013 7numan7·74 videos

"This is a recording of a self-playing patch I made with a Meng Qi Music - Ciat Lonbarde Rollz5' electronic instrument.

The Rollz5 is based on diy "paper circuit" that Ciat Lonbarde published a while ago, and is similar to the Plumbutter instrument, but lacks the PB's sequencer (man-with-the-red-steam) and antenna (deerhorn), and comes with a slightly different configuration of filters (ultrasounds) and oscillators (geometric rollz). Meng Qi Music has designed pcb implementation of the Rollz circuits and offered them for sale to diy-instrument builders. The instrument used in this perfomance was built the MQ pcbs.

The sounds the patch is making, as you can probably hear, include sustained droning notes forming chords that pulsate and shift over time, bass and baritone-treble drum-beats (coming from the gong filters pinged by the slower rollz, i think), and high-pitched cymbal like patterns (from the ultrasound filters, i think).

The video patterns are being generated from LZX euroack video synthesis modules that are being modulated by the audio from the Rollz5 via the LZX Audio Frequency Decoder which has a built-in microphone. The video of me patching is actually where I'm slowly taking down the patch, using the recorded sound for this video to modulate more video synthesis patterns, projected on the instrument and my hands this time instead of the wall. Audio from both cameras was mixed with the computer-recorded audio for the soundtrack of this video (you can hear a few ambient noises, such as from patch cords being removed, that were not made by the Rollz5).

This was my first patch with the Rollz5. And I think it came out very, very nice (especially considering how I didn't really have a clue what I was doing, at first anyways). Throughout the was thinking of a young lady who I have never met named Kira. She is daughter of the founder of an interet forum that I frequent and has been ill in the hospital with life-threatening illness for the past few weeks. This video goes out to her (and all the other people in the hospital, or wherever they are, who need to rest and get well again so that they can proceed with their lives).

Enjoy!"

Extended Tetrazzi Test

Published on May 17, 2013 NakagawaGakki·43 videos

"Here are some excerpts from my first test with the Extended Tetrazzi I have built. I spent about an hour exploring it right after I first turned it on this afternoon, sooo much fun.
The Tetrazzi PCB was ordered from Super instrument designer Peter Blasser at Ciat Lonbarde - http://www.ciat-lonbarde.net/tetrazzi/ Its sadly discontinued now, but the Tetrax is now available.
I want to take this basic design and extend it to become a more expressive and per formative instrument in my setup. I took some inspiration from the way the Tetrax is laid out.
I started by making the wooden play Barres longer to create more flex, a kind of "Differential Lever". This basically means that pressing down (and pulling up!) on either side of the fulcrum will produce different results. This modification alone has added a lot more subtle expression to the Tetrazzi.
I have brought all the SQT and TRN points for each internal Oscillator out to a metal (banana) jack that doubles the function. I can use the socket as a touch point to "bend" with my fingers but also temporarily hard wire these connections to retain a patch. Also these Banana jack are standard on Modular Synthesizers so I hope to be able to interface this with my modular in the future.
There are still 3rows of jacks that are unused ATM, I hope to further modify this instrument to add even more playability. There are many ideas at http://pugix.com/synth/modular-tetrazzi/ who has completely opened up the Tetrazzi and converted it into a fully blown Modular Panel.
Although I wont go this far I hope to glean some valuable info from his site.

The case of my Extended Tetrazzi has been designed and cut by me in the CAD/CAM environment using a CNC machine. The Barres have been especially carved down (on the underside) in such a way that they flex right over the hidden piezo sensors.
All wood is reclaimed Jarrah floorboards from a house that was being demolished nearby my workshop."

"Yes it is a stereo filter but because it is based on the Rungler it is also capable of flights of aleatoric synth sound. Because of this it can stand alone or paired with other Ciat-Lonbarde devices. Watch Hainbach's THE BIZZARE BEAUTY OF THE STUBER [posted here] for more info and tips on how to approach this device."

via this auction

"Discontinued Tetrazzi Organ in very good condition cosmetically and functions perfectly. Comes with power adapter, also runs on batteries.

Description from ciat-lonbarde.net

Tetrazzi is the newest incarnation of the Organus series, a mandala of analog oscillator circuits that can cross-modulate to form the empire of infinite circuitry known as pure sonic chaos. The tetrazzi boards shall be assembled by machine in Colorado, they will be perfect, and sonde-tested here in the workshop in Baltimore. Electronically, it represents some of the more profound electronic complices that were developed in the 20th century, such as Buchla Source of Uncertainty, U.S. Navy Phantastron Radar Circuit, and Piezoelectric Flex Technology. It is a way to make the touch-sensitivity of human organs into touch-sensitivity on the pipe organ, pipe here meaning "squishing electron flow via ceramic transducer"

In The Desert Of Arrakis - Dune inspired Jam with Cocoquantus2 & Mother-32

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"I recently watched Dune by Denis Villeneuve - and despite being very sceptical - I loved every minute of it. During the scenes in the desert of Arrakis my mind kept wandering to the Cocoquantus2 by Ciat-Lonbarde and how perfect it would be to make sand and desert-like sounds with it. Paired with the Mother-32 I was instantly hooked by the hypnotizing atmosphere created by those two instruments. During the jam I imagined to be in the desert of Arrakis, barely seeing anything with all the sand in front of my eyes and feeling a giant sandworm approach from afar.

First I recorded some noise from Mother-32 into the left sampler of the Cocoquantus, and then I recorded a low bass tone into the right sampler. After that I started jamming with this setup. It sounds pretty different from what I usually compose these days, so I’m looking forward to hear what you think of it.

All sounds come from the Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus2 and Moog Mother-32, with some additional Valhalla Reverb and FabFilter Limiter added in Ableton."

Peter Blasser of Ciat-Lonbarde on the Tocante Karper

via PETER B : JUST B

"The new 'Tocante Karper' uses 24 pic chips in parallel to synthesize karplus-strong string emulations, in the Tocante scale. That scale is initially based on a very analog thing- the capacitor values in an E6 preferred number set. For example: 10, 15, 22, 33, 47 and 68 are my starting numerology. Because they are integers, and also because the frequency varies as the reciprocal of the capacitance (bigger capacitor, lower frequency), it ported over seamlessly to sixteen bit string buffers of different lengths..."

Ciat-Lonbarde Tocante - Zenert PHASHI solar powered synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"this is a small electronic instrument powered by solar energy... you can use it just about anywhere... and is a fantastic electronic object to play. take a search for "ciat lonbarde" and you will find some of the most unique instruments in the vein of the baschet brothers or the history of synths... these folks are magicians with low brow materials. there are three versions of the tocante - this one is the PHASHI...

here's some info:

Zenert is a simple name, deriving from the source of its noise, a zener diode, and the spectral flavoring applied by a simple resonant circuit, the twin-t. Its operation diverges from the previous Tocante pieces, where finger-touch simply connected oscillator outputs to an amplifier. In Zenert, finger-touch injects the zener noise into the inputs of the flavoring circuits. So instead of a number of discrete symbols at its rim, Zenert has a band of copper tracing, scripted to mimic the waveform of noise. The inner nodes, for circuit bending on Thyris, Bistab and Phashi, are now the injection points for each resonance. The resonators on Zenert share the same tuning-by-capacitor scheme, establishing continuity with the previous ones. Thus Tocante shares a two-faced nature with its nemesis, Ieaskul F. Mobenthey; looking backward to previous designs for the general framework and manifesto, but looking forward to new ways to break out of the mold.

The Tocante line of musical instruments is "about" and "touching" the materials of electronics. Each touchpad represents a pitch according to industry "preferred numbers," chosen by old wartime engineers for non-musical purposes. Here they form a unique and haunting musical scale, not unlike that of a gamelan or the neutral intervals of Persian music. Beyond these base pitches, three golden sandrodes flank each touchpad; touching these androgynous nodes yields intermodulation, pitch and timbral shifts, and emergent chaotic masses. The instruments come in three flavors: thyris the triangle, bistab the square, and phashi the circle. The oscillators sound like a bowed string, a most powerful clarinet, and a howling serene whistle, respectively. Each responds to touch differently. Solar panels charge the onboard batteries, that power the oscillators and a speaker. They are the perfect self-contained instrument for nightly music at the campground.

Technical Details

-Dimensions: 28x8x2 centimeters.
-Range: 24 notes, four octaves.
-Power: 6x300mah NiMH cells.
-Diffusion: 0.5watt speaker.
-Output: 3.5mm mono audio jack.
-Cloudy Day: 2.1mm tip-positive 12vdc power jack (not included)."

Meng Qi Ciat-Lonbarde Dual Ribbon Controller

"This is a great controller for voltage controlled synthesizers and modules.

Two ribbon and pressure controllers, switched attenuators, gate OR combiners, 4x 1/8" to banana converts, passive finger touch-point patchbay mixer(!).

I'm not the original owner, and it seems like it was someone's learn to solder project. I've gone and cleaned up the PCB, rewired the ribbon and pressure sensors, and did a general once over. It used to have two LEDs on the underside, which never worked, I've removed them (seems like they were not meant to work -- the voltage they're getting is way too high).

Runs on a +12v DC, 500mA power supply, included with purchase.

specs:
Analog expander / controller designed to fit Ciat Lonbarde instruments. Also can be useful for all Banana modulars.
(2) pressure ribbons with range/offset control (>7v to 0v for position, 0v to >7v for pressure)
(1) 5 => 2 OR combiner
(4) CV knobs (switchable to banana input attenuator)
(5) 2 way switches (2) avdog splitters (16) touch points inputs (4) 1/8 to banana (1) ground all 3-way switches so you can turn off the signal slim profile satin finished stainless steel faceplate acrylic box size : 530 * 165 * 23.6 (not including screw head and knob) (mm)"

Rolzer - Beat Generator Add-On for the Ciat-Lonbarde Plumbutter

Published on Jul 23, 2018 hajimmie

Rolzer patching [plumbutter jam #19]
"rolls of rolzer patches into an ultrasound, gong, and pitch input of an Avdog. so you’re hearing three voices. showing how things suddenly gets chaotic and unpredictable manner, beyond comprehensive planning of control.

to be predictable needs some unique approach to learn - patch memo often doesn't reproduce the same result... well, that's actually the point of this thing partly, tho.."

Plumbrolzer session! [plumbutter jam #20]
plumbrolzer video is still relatively rare on tube so here’s a session on one night. Well, it’s not TRULY Plumbrolzer which I can’t afford yet but it is essentially the same ;)

via Ciat-Lonbarde

"Rolzer is a beat generator add-on for the Plumbutter, a drum and drama machine. The Plumbutter offers complete voltage control of all parameters, including its pulse-rolls, for generating beat tempo patterns. However, when voltage control is added to an androgynous circuit such as the rolz, it has the tends to roll-off the ultrasound chaos present in the original incarnation of this idea, the rolz-5. So here we have the Rolzer, a collection of geometries graded into tempi by virtue of their capacitors. It is for developing a relationship and searching for the oddest, most alive rhythms, not by twiddling knobs but by making connections.

According to the concepts outlined in the Rollz-5 papers, combinations of even and odd geometries, such as a square and a triangle, generate sophisticated beat patterns including chaos at ultrasound frequencies. An even roll maintains a steady pattern, and an odd roll tries to resolve its inherent paradox; connecting them blends these attributes over time and with "grain". The original paper circuits presented each solder-worker to construct her own idiosyncratic assemblage of geometries, with assortments of capacitors based on what was on at hand, or strict dogmata, or pure whimsey. When the concept evolved into a Laboratory Rollz, the Plumbutter discarded any idiosyncrasies for the sake of pure control and dialing in aesthetic by knob. However, the Tocante line offers a way to think about the materials of electronics- capacitors- that allows a revision of the original Rolz concept..."
