"Crumar multiman s3. This is a wonderful machine with a more than inimitable sound. String section, synth section, bass section, piano section, effects section, a real pleasure. String and polysynth to be the envy of arp solina !! excellent functional condition. State-of-the-art synthetic stringmachine
beautifully fat sound.
Just overhauled and fully functional.
Four fader caps are not original, found some really similar caps that fits"

Crumar Multiman-S Synthesizer Italian String Machine Orchestrator SN 388

"Crumar Multiman-S Synthesizer Sound Demo
Italian Synth/String Machine, also known as the Orchestrator.
No effects – audio taken directly from 'MAIN' output."
via this auction
"Fantastic sounding 1970s Italian string synthesizer, with bass, piano, clavichord, brass, cello & violin sounds. All sorts of possible combinations as well as an amazing brass filter and "string timbre" filter-like control for the strings make this a really unique sounding synth.
A few dings and scratches (pictured) on the body and top cover but the synth itself is in near fully-working condition. A couple of the keys don't work with certain sounds and the inner workings could do with a cleaning. The foot pedal is not included, which affects the functionality of the synth to an extent but it's still an incredible sounding machine (link to video demo of sounds below – I've tried to cover as many sounds as possible as well as show some of the limitations.)
All outputs are tested and working. Pedal board and swell pedal connectors are untested..."

VAI 4 : Maestro Rhythm King - Maestro USS - Crumar Multiman S/2 - Elka Solist
Vintage Audio Institute Italia
"Making good use of the Crumar Multiman S/2 string separate outputs: string section are going through the Mu-Tron phaser, brass and bass sections are going through the Maestro Rhythm Kings' modulation effect : an input in the back of the drum machine will chop up the input signal like a rhythmic tremolo.
From there is goes to the Maestro Universal Synthesizer (?) System, possibly the first multi-effect ever put on the market, triggering the envelope filter and adding some phaser there as well...
The Maestro Kings' drums are processed through the Roland RE-301 for crunch and echo.
The Elka Solist 505 monophonic synthesizer is playing the lead.
We make these videos as a showcase for our studio and for curious vintage heads - and for fun.
We don't dilly-dally too much with production and mixing but it can sound pretty good with headphones on."

CRUMAR PERFORMER String Machine 1979 | HD DEMO
Published on Mar 3, 2019 AnalogAudio1
"(c) 2019 by AnalogAudio1
Demo of the string machine / analog synthesizer CRUMAR PERFORMER from 1979. I played it along with a Korg SDD-3000 delay (right channel only). In the intro it was played through a Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phase shifter and a Korg SDD-3000.
This Crumar Multiman is the newer version (B) with the softer (SSM) filter, which I prefer. The earlier version A has a ladder filter. But the difference in sound is not that big like you might think. Anyway, a great string machine with big sounds, but easy to carry around. Used by Duran Duran on 'Girls on film'."

Crumar Perfomer VS Crumar Multiman S-3
video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia
"Two lovely string machines steps into the ring - ready to rumble.
The energy bill is here and it's steep.
We need cash badly so we're squaring these two off to see which one we can part ways with.
It's a tough choice but there can be only one.
The machines differ a bit in layout and controls:
The Performer sports a 4 octave keyboard compared to the Multimans 5 octaves.
It's also a bit more simple, it lacks a few filter controls in the brass section and the string section has constant chorus.
It still sounds great though, and it's a lot lighter than the Multiman - all of which are surprisingly heavy.
Have a look and listen - let yourself be heard in the comment section - which one would you keep?"

"Built in reverb Built in brass, paino, clavich, chello, violion. Each of these different instruments have their own right and left audio level controls. Up to 8% pitch control"
Update via ralf in the comments: "Hi, this a Crumar Multiman-S (or in the US: Orchestrator) with beautiful strings like Solina, Logan/Hohner and a Moog 'shaped' filter for the brass section. If it wouldn't be so heavy...
Hopefully this year I will build a new lighter case with multiplex wood and aluminium. Thanks for the ever great blog."
