Soldering 0805 Caps for Deckard's Dream part 2 - Iron or Hot Air

Published on Oct 15, 2017 TjimmyChonga

http://www.deckardsdream.com - Deckard's Dream is now available in both kit and pre-built form as announced here.

"Aside from 4000 through-hole components, the Deckard's Dream DIY synth requires soldering almost 700 very small surface mount capacitors.
Should you do that with a soldering iron or a smd hot air rework station? You decide!"

Part 1 here.

Deckard's Dream Fifty Patches

video upload by riotbell

"This is a demonstration of a patch set that I recently finished for the Deckard's Dream. I'm working on getting it uploaded for free download if anyone is interested.

Paul Schilling's original patch set is simply a master class, and arguably one of the best collection of presets I've ever encountered. Just did my best to expand on some of those ideas and explore the synth in a slightly different way.

Lots of spacey pads and mournful leads on tap. Not much in the way of bass or more traditional sounds.

As a whole, the Deckard's Dream seems to really excel at layered, nuanced, often delicate patches. It's certainly not as 'massive' as people seem to presume (or at least presume the CS-80 was). It produces some wonderful flute and woodwind sounds as well.

I shot this all in one take, and apologize for some of the Linnstrument noodling, there are definitely a few flubs and some shoddy playing scattered about. My apologies for that.

I gave most of these patches spacey sci-fi Blade Runner inspired names. Which I hope isn't too corny. Just kind of whatever popped into my head. Likewise, please forgive the top of my head from floating in and out of the frame at times. Making these videos has really given me an appreciation for all the little production issues you run into when creating Youtube content.

Hopefully the leveling is decent enough. I've noticed that Youtube compression really shaves off a lot of the high end sparkle that VCO analog synths really excel at. This synth sounds absolutely lovely in person.

Varying amounts of reverb provided by the Oto Bam.

Thanks for listening."

Original Yamaha CS-80 Presets for Deckard's Dream

Deckard's Dream Demos by Paul Schilling

"Each of the original 22 CS-80 patches went through several revisions over the last few months to get them as close as possible. Included are all the various CS-80 preset combinations - a total of around 120 Deckard's Dream patches, each of them tweaked for optimal balance.

In the style of Vangelis, since he is the perennial master of CS-80 presets. I'll be adding on to this as time allows"

Sound Design on the Deckard's Dream Is Too Easy // Patch From Scratch with Free samples

video upload by Ricky Tinez

"Today we explore sound design on one of my all time favorite synthesizers, the Deckard's Dream by Black Corporation. One patch I made prior to hitting record but we'll design two synth patches from scratch together. We'll explore some beginner synth techniques like applying filter envelopes, adding different attack times to layers to have the patch move and sound different over time, as well as running going a little deeper and playing with different tunings and layering the synth with itself in the way it was built. I'll also run the synthesizer through the R1 Reverb Pedal by Walrus Audio to push it over the top and create that cinematic movie score feel. I can't help it..

An Update on Black Corporation's DECKARD'S DREAM - 2nd Run of Prebuilt Units Pre-Orders Now Open

via Black Corporation

"We hope this newsletter reaches you well. We here at Black Corporation have been working hard to fill all of the orders for the first run of Deckard’s Dream DIY kits and pre-built units. Most of the DIY kits were shipped in mid-October and we are already seeing some enthusiastic builders putting the finishing touches on their projects.

The first run of built Deckard’s Dream units will start shipping this week. We are looking forward to getting them to their new owners and hearing all of the great things they are used for. It has been a major learning experience, but we have managed to streamline some of the process do things more smoothly moving forward. We also had made many software improvements recently, adding extended EG and LFO speeds and microtuning features.

We have been receiving inquiries as to when the second run would be, so we are happy to announce that we are now accepting pre-orders, expecting to ship in February. They will also be $3749, and just as we did in the first run, we will accept preorders with a deposit of $1199 until December 1, 2017 (after which, we will not be able to accept cancellations or refunds). We will then request a final payment of $2550, the balance, when the units are ready to ship. This includes free shipping by Japan Post Priority International.

Please preorder here.

We still have a few DIY kits in stock and will have the full build guide available shortly for those who have been reluctant to emerge into the project.

Unfortunately, these efforts did require us to take some attention away from our upcoming Expander unit, but we are now fully focused on finalizing it.

Stay tuned for more updates,
Black Corporation"

Deckard's Continuum Dream

Christophe Duquesne

"A Deckard's Dream controlled by a Continuum in MPE mode (with some additional help from a Kijimi, a NDLR and Valhalla Supermassive).

I was kindly lent a Deckard's Dream and a Kijimi from Black Corporation: for quite a long time, I wanted to try the Deckard to control it with a Continuum and the result is quite impressive. It's very different from the Eagan Matrix (the internal engine of the Continuum) and brings a very interesting set of colors ... and of course, it has this signature sound that triggers some memories (and, by the way, the Valhalla Supermassive I use here, as all Valhalla DSP effects, is really a must have). The MPE implementation of the Deckard is a bit unusual, but Ok for the Continuum, and a great thing is that, as for the Eagan Matrix, a single control can influence several parameters, each with its specific range, which is highly important for expression, and you manage to get an interesting mix of your own control and the legacy envelopes and LFO (that you usually play with your fingers on a Continuum).

In the video, the Kijimi is controlled by an NDLR by Conductive Labs, also a pretty nice combo."

Black Corporation Deckard's Voice // Dreamy Eurorack Synth Voice

DivKidVideo

Deckard's Voice was first announced in August 2019, and RACHEL shortly after.

"Here’s the *PROTOTYPE* Deckard’s Voice module from Black Corporation. It’s a monophonic analogue Eurorack synth voice based on the Deckard’s Dream polyphonic since - which in itself is a replicant with a serious nod to the classic Yamaha CS-80. In 32HP is features an analogue oscillator, two LFOs, two envelopes, two filters and plenty of CV ins and outs. For a detailed run down download the free PDF quickstart I’ve made and linked below.

*PROTOTYPE* - this is a pre release prototype unit, final tweaks and adjustments may be made in the production version.

Black Corporation Introduces RACHEL - 2nd Module Inspired by the Yamaha CS80 & Deckard's Dream

Black Corporation shared a pic of their next module based on their Deckard's Dream, Yamaha CS80 inspired polysynth. While Deckard's Voice is based on the  This one is based on the Ring mod section of the core sound engine (VCO, Noise, VCF, ENV, & LFO sections), RACHEL is based on the Ring Mod section.  Anyone that has been fortunate enough to play with a Yamaha CS80, CS50, or CS60, knows the ring mod is where a bit of the magic that sets it apart from other synths, happens. CV patching for integration with other synths and modules should take functionality to a new level. What's interesting is if the Ring Mod section on Yamaha's synths is mono in the sense of all voices go through one shared ring mod, this would be an affordable way to add ring mod to any of your synths. This one might be super interesting as a separate effects pedal as well.

New 8 Voice Poly Analog from Black Corporation Spotted at NAMM (Not Deckard's Dream)

It looks like a buffed up Virus C. Analog though.

Two LFOs, toe VCOs, two ENVs, and Modulation section.

Update via Silver Seraph in the comments:

"That's for sure a new PolyKobol"

That would be correct. You can see some in the archives here.

Note this is from Black Corporation. If you click on the image and look on the lower right you will see Black Corporation. The man behind Black Corporation is Roman Filippov, who brought us the highly regarded Buchla 208r Easel clone. Deckard's Dream of course is based on the CS80. All indications that this will be a faithful reproduction.

Update2: and via Ryan in the comments: "No,it is not,its a polyphonic Kobol replica.

The Polykobol uses the more weak sounding SSM2044.

On top you get Prophet Style FM modulation of the filter from VCO 2 and FM between vco's!

Massive sounding synth that will blow away vintage and new synths."

See the comments below for more.

Update3 via Autonomik Circuits: It will be shown at Superbooth 18 and Roman confirms it will be available as a DIY kit.

Earthquaker Devices Pyramids & Avalanche Run V2 With Deckard's Dream & Granmother

Published on Jun 10, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"Cory from Earthquaker Devices came by our shop to show us some of the awesome sounds of their pedals. All of their pedals handle synthesizers as well as they do guitars and to show that he played two of their pedals, the Pyramid which is a flanger with multiple different modes and presets and the Avalanche Run V2 which is a delay and reverb with tap tempo. Both of these pedals are also stereo.

We ran two synthesizers through the pedals, first the Black Corporation Deckard's Dream which is an amazing polysynth with a classic CS-80 style sound. In the second part of the video we used Moog's Grandmother for an arpeggiated synth line."
