Music Generated by IOLabs Flux for Sequential Prophet 10

video upload by Friendly Noise

"Flux is an incredible rhythm generating machine, but it can also make repetitive or evolving melodies. All melodies in the video are generated in real time by Flux. I used the Befaco VCMC voltage to midi converter to translate the analog triggers and voltages generated by Flux into midi messages that the Prophet 10 can understand.

On Mordax Data’s display you can follow the note triggering, with lower notes in the upper lane and progressively higher notes showing in the other three lanes.

Some delay and reverb were added in the DAW after recording."

Raindrops On A Familiar Face - Improvisation For Prophet 10 And Rainy Day By Friendly Noise

video upload by Friendly Noise

Patch notes/video description:

"An improvisation with the Sequential Prophet 10. Everything is coming out of a single preset, by editing the sound in real time, with no pause while recording. No splits or bitimbral presets were used.

Sorry, there is no video of the recording. I was just playing and recording for fun. After 10-15 minutes I thought the recording could be worth listening, so I kept playing and forgot to lunch. :-)

There are some pops, clics and abrupt sound changes. That’s live recording! Also, no sustain pedal was connected. Consequently I couldn’t reach all the notes and edit the sound at the same time as desired. That’s the beauty of live recording!

The out of the Prophet 10 is strictly monophonic, but delay and reverb were added in the DAW in order to get some stereo movement."

Manipulating Melodies With IOLabs Flux - A Dark Christmas: Variations On The Jingle Bells Tune

video upload by Friendly Noise

"Flux is an incredible rhythm generating machine, but how good is Flux at making melodies? I have tried to answer this question in two videos. In this second part I’ll show how to manipulate melodies with Flux. Flux it not your traditional one note per step sequencer, but melodies are definitively programmable and more than just 'programmable'.

Everything you hear in the video is based on the notes of the first 4 bars of Jingle Bells.

Used in the video: Soma Pulsar 23, IOLabs Flux, 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, Spherical Sound Society Vortex Generator, Joranalogue Morph 4, and Strymon Nightsky.
Some EQ and compression were added in the DAW after recording.

Here is the first part: Making Melodies With IOLabs Flux - Is That Possible?"

Sequential Prophet 10: The Epic Drone

video upload by Friendly Noise

"An epic drone with the Sequential Prophet 10. Reverb and delay were added in the DAW after the recording.

Sorry, there is no video of the recording. I liked what came out of the P10 and just pressed record. Then I added two mixed slow motion videos of the P10, which are kind of supportive for the sound, but without capturing the actual recording."

Polyphonic aftertouch with Prophet 10 and Xkey - Is PAT really better than monophonic aftertouch?

video upload by Friendly Noise

"The keyboard on the Prophet 10 generates channel (monophonic) aftertouch, but the Prophet can also receive polyphonic aftertouch from an external source. This is what the video is about.

Reading the comments included in the video helps understanding of what’s going on."

Alesis Andromeda Sounds - Part 3 - Best Pad Machine?

video upload by Friendly Noise

Friendly Noise Alesis Andromeda posts

"Introduced in 2000, the Alesis A6 Andromeda was a real miracle in a music world without modern analog polysynths. All big polyphonic names were no longer in production and only available in the used or vintage market. Some loved the Andromeda, some hated it, most simply didn’t come to know it because of the Alesis name and the lack of music hits featuring this powerful polysynth. The Andromeda can be described equally as a polyphonic instrument and as a polyphonic modular synthesizer. That´s how complex or deep it can be.

The sounds are illustrated with pictures of my own Andromeda. There is no video, because those are old recordings, made long time ago before I started recording videos. The purpose of the recordings was exclusively for personal use, a way to remember sounds I liked. Some recordings may still be useful today in order to get familiar with the sound of the instruments. Some sounds use the internal effects, some use external processing.

Noise Engineering Polydactyl Versio | Platform Episode 11 | Dynamics Processing

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"It's always a joy when a new Versio firmware comes out. But this time, it's not an effect. Well, it can be, if you have a few 'tame' sources in your rack that could need some grit. If I understand correctly, Polydactyl wasn't really planned, it's more like a labour of love. When dynamics processing came to the brand new Legio platform, Noise Engineering decided it would be uncool to exclude Versio owners. This was also a great opportunity to do multiband compression because Versio has more knobs and CV inputs. Librae Legio is intended as 'end of chain glue', a master bus compressor. Polydactyl is targeted to sculpt individual modules or a submix. So this video inevitably dives into the area of sound engineering. Please note I am not a pro, just sharing what I've learned so far. Let's face it, us - modular people - have to make our sounds from scratch, we need to do the final mix and make sure it sounds good on most speakers. These modules can be a lot of help.

When I was about to finish this video, a Legio module came to my doorstep. So I needed to do some more recording and editing (tough job) to compare the two. More about Legio coming soon!

As usual, Polydactyl can be flashed into your Versio for free. It's completely up to you if you keep it there. A dedicated module is coming out on August 25th. Completely new with Versio? My personal favorite top 4 is Desmodus, Melotus, Imitor and a generic Versio for the less permanent jobs. A friendly warning: Versio and Legio are 'fly traps' or 'honey pots'. It usually doesn't end with just one module..."

Alesis Andromeda Sounds - Part 2 - Ok, it’s not a Yamaha CS-80, but…

How acid is the Oberheim SEM? A comparison with the Behringer TD-3 and learning from mistakes

"A comparison between the modern Oberheim SEM and the Behringer TD-3 and TD-3-MO synthesizers. Please read the comments in the video, don’t just listen to the sounds.
