BURG is back with a new track! :) This time I wanted to make a bigger sounding song than the recent strymon session in a slightly higher tempo (117 bpm) but trying to keep the mood very minimal, e.g not overusing the instruments and overlapping too much but still keep the main vibe. Possibly that this one could fit during an early morning dancefloor? :D

There are a lot of things going on in this track.. Main sounds are, bass from the KORG volca bass + the Avalon Bassline driving the tune with percussion from the digitakt and modular + some hihats and snare from the TR-8s. A lot of random sequencing and shorter than 16 step sequences helps to build variation in a tune that else could have ended up too static.

Gear used:
- KORG Grandstage
- Moog Subsequent 37
- Clavia NORD Lead A1
- Novation Peak, Arturia Keystep
- Roland TR8s
- Elektron Digitakt, Analog Four
- Abstrakt Instrments Avalon Bassline
- KORG ms-20 mini, Volca Keys, 2x Volca Bass, Monologue

BURG - desynchronosis (eurorack, plonk, ms-20)

#plonk #intellijel #ms20

This track is all about the modular with a twist of ms-20. I wanted to experiment a bit with the new Plonk and 1U Steppy that i added recently to the rack. This thing sounds fabulous, great module that has a lot of use cases.. not just rhytmic but also very musical.

Modular sound sources:

- Plonk - intro bass sound / Eloquencer
- Braids - intro 5 step sequence / qubit Octone
- MI Rings into uClouds - weird spacy melodies / Eloquencer
- MI Peaks - kick and snare / Eloquencer
- BIA - additional percussion / Steppy
- Tides (sheep fw) - Second wavetable bass sound / Eloquencer
- 3x A111-3 - chord stabs / uO_C Chords in Harrington 1200 mode + Eloquencer

I use the planar2 joystick to adjust the Ripples filter for the Braids sequence, and it also controls the wavetable morphing on the Tides/Sheep bass sound. Tetrapad is also controlling the Tides/Sheep bass sound for some added performance stuff.

A lot of modulation is happening in the Braids, Rings, Tides BIA.. PAM is the main source plus some gates from the Intellijel Steppy.

Modular Grid Links:

Main rack: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/v...
Control rack: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/v...

FX on modular rack:

- Strymon Timeline
- Keeley Caverns
- Presonus Plate reverb (in mixer)

FX on ms-20

- Strymon el Capistan (not visible in video)
- Presonus Plate reverb (in mixer)

Enjoy!

BURG - periorbital dark circles

Published on Dec 26, 2018 ollilaboratories

"If you like my stuff please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/ and https://www.patreon.com/theBURG

#eurorack #volca #elektron #AvalonBassline

I have introduced some new gear lately in the studio, my #intellijel 84HP has been upgraded to a 104HP, plus that the old monologue is back. I wanted to make a little bit bigger session to balance the #BURG1K session i have been doing for the past few weeks. :)

Track started out experimenting with the uO_C, using it in harrington 1200 with the 3x A111-3 VCOs from doepfer. Very fun to finally be able to make some chords in the modular, this is one of the reasons I wanted to get a bigger case.

Also, the BIA is doing percussion, Rings is doing.. well what rings does plus the MI tides (with sheep fw) doing some wavetable action. Great fun patch, with a lot of modulation going on.

Also new is the digitone, but it is not really doing much .. just sequencing the vBass (low end) plus some FX processing for the korg vKeys.

Tricking out the monologues as a 2xVCO main lead sound on this one BURG style, as you can hear the filter is not really ms-20.. but it is close enough. Paired with the strymon el capistan it gets that nice tape style vibe.

TR8s on 707 drums + some extra percussion from the digitakt, and the avalon bassline, well, does a bassline :)

I hope you will enjoy this one!

BooOooM!

Gear Used:

- Roland TR-8s, drums, percussion and master Side Chain FX for digitone, vKeys, vBass
- KORG volca Keys and Bass
- Elektron Digitakt, Digitone
- Elektron Analog Four (just FX and sequencer)
- Makenoise 0-coast
- Avalon Bassline
- KORG monologue"

Mrseri uO_c Micro Ornament & Crime

Published on Nov 26, 2018 Perfect Circuit

"The mrseri uO_c is a micro 8hp version of the Ornament & Crime multi function module. This module has many modes including sequencers, shift registers, quantizers, envelope generators and more. We used four of the modes in this video.

The Intellijel Planar is used for sequencing, the Dixie II and Rubicon 2 as oscillators, for filters we used the Morgasmatron and Joranalogue Filter 8, and the Strymon Magneto adds delay and reverb.

uO_c available here: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/mrseri..."

"The mrseri uO_c is a compact, and stylish take on the open-source Ornament & Crime multi-function module. Using just four trigger/gate inputs, four CV inputs, two encoders and menu up/down buttons, the uO_c accomplishes a huge number of complex modulation tasks. Using its simple menu, a user can easily get the uO_c to function as a quantized shift register, quad envelope generator, quadrature LFO, quad 16-step sequencer, chord sequencer, and even an 8-bit sound source! From a utility standpoint, the uO_c is also invaluable for its precision voltage generation mode, which is essential when calibrating other modules. Ornament & Crime truly is a module which amplifies the capabilities of every module around it, leaving many users to wonder how they ever patched without one.

Spraung

Published on Aug 18, 2018 Miles Briand

"Experimenting with the Ornaments and Crime Harrington 1200 triad chord generator mode on Braids and 2 DPO dissimilar oscillator waveforms. Lots of trigs and CVs for O_C coming out at a 1/8 tempo Voltage block and Pamelas NEW Workout. The mixed down oscillators are going going into Belgrad which is cutoff gated by Pams workout, into my main mixer and clouds. JIAW JIAW guitar sound is rings into Uoki-Toki polivoks filter clone at high resonance, with filter cutoff being triggered by Pams workout gates into Maths envelope, into erica synths tube mixer at max saturation. Also drums from Tiptop audio ONE, 4MS STS and Intellijel Plonk being controlled by Qubit Rhythm. Qubit mixology with send return going into Clouds at final stage."

Ornament and Crime chords: a spring depression

Published on Apr 17, 2018 NONsynth

Let this one develop.

"Finally got around to testing out the Harrington 1200 mode on the Ornament and Crime, using the Audio damage Sequencer 1 to conjure up some minor chordal goodness. Patch notes below:

Bass voice is Rings with an envelope on the brightness to get more of a bass guitar sound - into Sputnik 4-tap for a bit of ping pong because I can't resist.

The Sequencer 1 sends pitch and gate to the o_C in Harrington 1200 mode. The CV1 and CV2 channels are used to control chord inversions and octave switching. The Accent trigger out is sent to some weird switching input for the Tonnetz whatchamacallit transformations. The four pitch outs go from the o_C to the Roland System 500 512 oscillators and the two Shapeshifter oscillators, all into the System 500 530 VCA to the 521 VCF to the Audio Damage Dimensions chorus to a Disting stereo reverb and out.

The whole patch goes through the Boss RV-6 reverb and I threw some drums on in Reaper for good measure."

Patch Notes #5 - Ornament & Crime Harrington 1200 Mode

Published on Jul 13, 2016 Voltage Control Lab

"Patch Notes from our recent exploration of the Neo-Riemannian chord generating Harrington 1200 mode in the Ornament & Crime Eurorack module.

Tempi is the central clock, first routed to the X clock in on René in snake mode, which is playing back an 8 step pattern. QCV output is routed to CV 1 input on Ornament & Crime as the root note source sequence.

O&C is routed to 3 oscillators, Mutable Braids, Malekko Richter Anti-Oscillator and Sputnik Oscillator, each sending a triangle wave shape through the three channel inputs on the Make Noise Optomix, which is acting as a mixer in this case.

The mixed output is sent to the Make Noise MMG Filter in Low Pass mode and then through another homemade VCA, both modulated by the two envelopes on the Intellijel Dual ADSR.

Tempi is also clocking Pressure Points via Brains, which is controlling chord inversion on the O&C.

Tempi is clocking the Varigate 4 as well, which is routed to trigger a Malekko Dual Borg Filter Kick, a snare in the Basimilus and a hihat in the Scooper. The 4th output is randomizing hits and repeated triggers on the Dual ADSR, to give the chords some more complex rhythmic action.

All of these sounds are mixed through the Mix4, and then through Warps Parasite delays. I think that's it!

New Ornaments & Crimes Polymorphic CV Generator Euorack Module

Uploaded on Apr 23, 2016 Tim Churches

"This video provides a very brief overview of version 1.0.0 of the Ornaments & Crimes firmware for the ornament & Crime DIY eurorack synthesier module by Max Stadler (mxmxmx). This enhanced firmware has been a collaborative effort by Patrick Dowling (pld) (who did a great deal of the work, and all the heavy lifting), Max Stadler (mxmxmx) (who designed the module and wrote all of the original firmware) and Tim Churches (bennelong.bicyclist)."

via GitHub:

"ornaments & crimes is a collaborative project by Patrick Dowling (aka pld), mxmxmx and Tim Churches (aka bennelong.bicyclist) (though mostly by pld and bennelong.bicyclist). it (considerably) extends the original firmware for the o_C / ASR eurorack module, designed by mxmxmx."

And additional details via mxmxmx:

"it can now be found here. and it runs on the (almost) eponymous module.

huge props go to pld and bennelong.bicyclist who've basically rewritten the firmware from scratch and mutated the thing beyond recognition, both in terms of functionality and performance.

everything is, of course, open source and we've even made a little schematic for you (NB: post-hoc). speaking of: special thanks must also to the ever-generous olivier gillet, on whose code much of this new functionality builds. (and the hardware, too, gradually gravitated towards being fairly MI-esque). not so much the user interface, which does everything the one-knob-per-function doctrine interdicts: displays, menus, encoders ... the payoff is that you get a polymorphic module that can serve several functions somewhat more transparently:

there is still a improved and enhanced quantising ASR (analogue shift register) function in ornaments & crimes, now named CopierMaschine, but several other "apps" have been added. these "apps" are selectable on-the-fly, without having to reboot the module or power-cycle.

The apps currently available in ornaments & crimes are:

Automatonnetz: an "app" for the Ornament & Crime DIY eurorack synthesiser modulo

Published on Feb 27, 2016 Tim Churches

"A brief and not at all musical demonstration of the display for the Automatonnetz 'app' for the Ornament & Crime DIY eurorack synthesiser module. The Automatonnetz, coded up by Patrick Dowling, combines the neo-Riemannian triad chord transformations of the Harrington 1200 app, which also runs on the Ornament & Crime module, and which was inspired by the Noise Engineering Tonnetz Sequent module, with the 'Exfilnator' vector sequencer idea expressed by fcd72 (Frank) of d:Machinery. See https://github.com/patrickdowling/O_C... for more details."
