‘These Songs Are Obsolete’ - New EP From LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

New EP from LMNC. Spot the MEGA DRONE/KiloDrone in the video above.

You can find the release here.

The press release:

‘These Songs Are Obsolete’ EP

Musician, producer and inventor Sam Battle, aka LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER returns today with his new EP ‘These Songs Are Obsolete’ and accompanying video for single ‘Waiting For The World To End’. He also announces his plans to open a museum before the end of 2020, ‘The Museum of Everything Else’ will be home to many of his creations along with other retro technology and musical inventions.

LMNC’s new EP features previous singles Desperado Vespa, Daydreamer, Stand And Deliver, and his last single Shock Horror alongside this new single and additional tracks Safety, Viva Forever and Stand and Deliver Excerpt.
Lead track Waiting For The World to End is an aptly titled focus track, a confrontational yet wildly catchy anthem for the current climate. It was written in 2019 and is accompanied by an incredible action movie style music video which LMNC co conceived with Johnny Goddard of Youth Hymns who directed it, and was shot during lock down in Ramsgate, England. The video see’s Sam trying to single handily save the world from a catastrophic event.
When asked about the EP, LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER says “These songs are obsolete is just talking about the constant progression in technology, leaving behind

so many bits of tech year by year that is still perfectly useable. I have a fascination with obsolete technology; it’s what I use in my daily life and I wrote and recorded these songs on obsolete tech, sort of trying to show that you don’t’ need the latest gizmo's to make and record music.”

He continues “I love obsolete tech so much I’m working on opening a museum filled with it, it’s going to be called The Museum of Everything Else which should be opening in late 2020, it will showcase many strange pieces of obsolete tech as well as machines I’ve built such as the furby organ and the Gameboy megamachine, it even has the latest machine that I built directly onto the wall of the museum last month called the KILODRONE, which is a 4 metre by 3 metre 1000 oscillator synthesizer, pretty sure it’s a world record!!” See the Kilodrone here.

LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER released his debut EP in 2018 and has been playing sold out live shows across the UK and Europe including a triumphant headline show at London’s XOYO. He’s been building up a massive online following since 2017 with his online inventions and has over 350,000 followers and over one hundred million views on YouTube alone.

These Songs Are Obsolete is available on vinyl from the official LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER online store, the vinyl includes additional tracks not featured on the digital release and comes with a download code for all the songs that feature on the vinyl. The full track listing for the physical release is:

Side A
Desperado Vespa Daydreamer
Stand and Deliver
Stand and Deliver Excerpt Waiting For The World to End Viva Forever

Side B

Time Is Not A Healer It's A Fuel For Resentment - Look Mum No Computer, 1986 Top Of The Flops

video upload by LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

New release from Look Mum No Computer. See if you can ID the keyboard/organ/synth. Update: Answer at the bottom of this post.

"Chop Of The Plops December 1986 Screening of Look Mum No Computer - Time Is Not A Healer It's A Fuel For Resentment. Stream/Listen/Buy here :-

Sam Battle, aka LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER closes out the year with his cathartic new single Time Is Not A Healer It’s A Fuel for Resentment. The latest release from the renowned musician, innovator and maker is an upbeat melancholic indie ballad that finds him at his most contemplative.

"This is a song I have been humming for a while, I initially made up the riff when making the furby organ, and played it in the furby organ video but to me it was always this song I was playing. I wrote it in a lonely place in me life, no idea what it’s actually about but I have my ideas haha! Only sad times you can write tunes like this I think! I made it on my home made synth and an

old analog polyphonic synth to make it fit with my other tunes even though this one is a tad more on the emotional end of it all."

Speaking about the accompanying video, Sam says:

"We went to the woods at sunrise but we just missed it because I spent an hour in the morning trying to figure out a bow tie. We shot it to make it look as believable as we could it being a low budget music video from 1986 including power stances and arm waves. All the good stuff"

The keyboard is the Eko Encore 49.

T.I.M. - Look Mum No Computer -

video upload by LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"Sam Battle, AKA LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER, returns with his latest and most personal single, T.I.M. The emotional track was inspired by Battle’s own experience with loss and grieving experiences that don’t work out as expected:

“Tim is a song about things not always going to plan, and not knowing how to express your feelings. It’s a song about an experience my wife and I had earlier in the year when her pregnancy didn’t go completely to plan.”

The track’s melody was initially devised at a show in Copenhagen, where Sam was improvising.

“The song was recorded on my analog synth, the melody I had for a while from the chorus. I kept playing it in livestreams and people picked it out as a melody they liked, I liked it too! It was all recorded live from the modular synth then I wrote the song over.”

LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER will headline London’s Oslo on the 22nd of November, and has recently announced an EU tour for 2024."

empty words are not what you deserve
half the man you’ve lost and half you’ve earned
is it a mistake a wretched curse
it crawls inside your skin, turns off your nerves
well how does it feel to be done wrong
how does it feel your underdone
how does it feel to not grow old
how does it feel to not have it all
its a shame you came and gone
didnt even stay a while
too old to be a clot
too young to even be a child
put past this sweet mistake
make tracks for the future
but dont forget about the way
it was so still and so perculiar
well how does it feel to be done wrong
how does it feel your underdone
how does it feel to not grow old
how does it feel to not have it all
cus like you ill be golden
like ill be golden till i die
like you i’ll be frozen
like you i’ll be frozen in my time
like you i’ll be still and laid out on a table
passing by
then like you ill be forgotten
making way for newer times
how does it feel to be let go

Look Mum No Computer Session With Red Bull Music

Published on Jun 13, 2018 LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"Here is the See Hear Now session i did with Red Bull Music!

From Red Bull Musics Site :-

'Hacker-come-musician Sam Battle dealt with the loneliness of going solo in typically inventive manner: he gave his synth a face. Now making electronic agit-pop as Look Mum No Computer, the 27-year-old started out, like many before him, playing guitar in bands. But he’d always been into DIY, taking his dad’s soldering iron to household appliances as a kid and teaching himself to circuit bend with his toys.

Eventually, he built up to making weird and wonderful musical machines: check out the flamethrower organ which shoots jets of fire as it plays, or the fully–rideable synth bike, which pumps out beats to the tempo of its wheels. And let's not forget the terrifying instrument comprised of 50 singing Furbies. Essentially, he’s a modern-day musical Frankenstein.

In this energetic See. Hear. Now. session, you can see Battle playing Kosmo the modular synth. This huge touring synth, he says, is relatively 'sensible' by his standards – aside, of course, from the aforementioned animatronic face.

Unsurprisingly, Look Mum No Computer’s songs are often about embracing a lack of convention. Second track Groundhog Day rails against the monotony of a 9-to-5 existence governed by Post-It notes and promotions, while Modern Gas calls out the hollowness of politics, capitalism and social media. ‘GAS’, Battle tells us, also stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome: an addiction to purchasing synths.'"

DIY Tinfoil Drum Triggers Like Kraftwerk Ones Modular Jam

Published on Aug 25, 2016 LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"Saw Kraftwerk using some weird tinfoil looking drum triggers, so figured, ill get some PVA glue, a block of wood and some tinfoil, and made some drum triggers."

How To DIY DrumPad for your SYNTH or DRUM MACHINE

Published on Aug 31, 2016 LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"Some people asked how to make the tinfoil drum pads in one of my videos. so just made an Art Attack style how to. these pads should work with most synths/drum machines or whatever you have that have gate/trigger ins.

3 x AA batteries.
gaffatape and the rest is up to you.

like modular, maybe an ARTURIA micro brute or something similar like an KORG odyssey or something.

**start with 3 batteries, if it isn't triggering chances are there isn't a good contact somewhere.
but if your sure of it, maybe put another battery in the row, but don't go over 4 then you might be in sketchy breaky territory. the power they send out is pretty low because of the crappyness of tinfoil. so there won't be any casualties. if your a bit worried about that then put a 1k resistor between the positive side of the battery and the drum wire, but everything your plugging it into will have protection incase something goes wrong anyways. but don't plug up too many batteries or you might start a synth fire, no one wants that.**
