XOR NerdSeq DAY 1 Modular Synth Jam Live Recording

Published on Sep 5, 2018 SonicVoltage

Website: https://sonicvoltage.com

"My first day/track with the XOR Electronics NerdSeq Sequencer. Eurorack Modular CV Gate Sequencer. Patch Description in the Video.

A Modular Synth Jam - Best way to learn a new sequencer is to write tracks while discovering its features. This gives me a good idea of how quick the NerdSeq is to learn and how quickly I can master the user interface.

The XOR NerdSeq is actually a bit more than a 6 Traks sequencer.
- Six tracks of CV+Trigger+Mod (1 Trigger and 2 CVs per track)
- Plus Tracks 7 and 8 dedicated to sequence samples. Actually track 7 and 8 each has two sequencing tracks, this means you can sequence/play 4 samples at the time. So it sort of is a 10 Track sequencer although each set of dual sample tracks is mixed into one output. Output 7 and 8

This is only my first experiment with the XOR NerdSeq, expect a full in depth review from me ASAP, probably over a few videos so we can cover all its features in some detail.

Patch descirption for each voice used in this live track is in the video.
The drum samples are short samples that come preloaded in the SD Card. So all percussive sounds are NerdSeq Card samples, played and sequenced through the NerdSeq.

"XOR Electronics NerdSeq Sequencer In-Depth Review Demo PART 4: Mod & FXs

In this NerdSeq Review Video PART 4, we carry on with the MOD column, the second CV Output which is your second source of programmable Control Voltage 'per track'.
We see some application e.g. controlling parameters on other modules and even as a second source of Pitch Control to create two voices polyphonic sequences.

After the MOD column we move straight into the FXs, 4 Effects available per each of the 6 Modular Tracks. We will look at the effects specific to the Sample Playback tracks in the following video.

XOR Electronics NerdSeq - PART 4 - INDEX:

00:00 MOD column and Mod(n) output per track.
Voltage Range, Voltage Offset Switches.
Screen values and using Note Names in the MOD Column for Pitch Control.

03:17 MOD1 CV output from a sequence. Mod 1 Output controlling Resonance on the AJH Synth GEMINI 2412 eurorack filter module.

05:16 MOD 1 CV Output from a sequence. Mod 1 CV Output controlling different parameters (CV Inputs) on the Gemini 2412. (Pitch CV, Freq, Reso...)

06:41 Using both CV outputs of just 'one' NerdSeq Track, CV1 and MOD1 outputs, to control the pitch of 'two' different VCOs (Erica Synths Pico VCO and Pico Voice) - Making it easy to create two voices intervals.

08:05 We start looking at the FXs, Effects available on XOR Electronics NerdSeq Modular Sequencer Tracks.

NerdSEQ Firmware V2.0 and Multi-IO Expander release

video upload by XOR Electronics

"Finally I am happy to announce you the new NerdSEQ firmware V2.0 and the new Multi-IO Expander release! There have been many updates since the initial release of the NerdSEQ 6 years ago but this time it is the most massive update so far!

Adding a new mapping screen which allows to modulate everything with everything, adding calculations and even simple scripting/code.
A new scaling screen with many scale presets, user scales and microtuning per note.
A new tracktype which allows polyphonic sequencing and the drummatrix to sequence Midi, I2C, CV/Gate ...
New edit modes to fill in notes/values and make sequences on-the-fly.
Updated Midi Routing allows the use of 3 independent Midi Ports with the Multi-IO Expander.
I2C support for distingEX, ER301, Just friends, 16n/F8R and clones....
External control of all parameters in the NerdSEQ.

There is much more in this new firmware and I squeezed even more out of the NerdSEQ hardware!!
As usual the new firmware is free to download on the XOR Website.

Also the new Multi-IO Expander is finally released which is the new Midi and I2C Expander. It got 3 Midi Ports:
- USB Host - Connect a Launchpad, Midi Keyboard, Midi Controller etc
- USB Device - Connect with the Computer and you got a NerdSEQ Midi Device to use with a DAW
- TRS-A Midi - Classic TRS-A / DIN Midi ports
They are 2 x I2C Ports which can be used in a flexible way to act as a Leader or as a Follower
- Encoder and Buttons allow to use new edit modes, to dial in notes and values

The new firmware and more information is available on the XOR Website:

New XOR Electronics NerdSEQ CV16 Expander

Published on Feb 24, 2020 XOR Electronics

"A small promo video about the new 'More CV 16' expander for the NerdSEQ Eurorack sequencer.
It adds 16 more CV outputs which are totally integrated into the sequencer.

The CV outputs can be either pitch or note scaled (in pairs of 0..10 Volt or -5/+5 Volt). Beside being outputs for notes or pitches with glide settings for each output, it also contains several modulators which can be routed to each output (pure or adding to the current voltage):
8 ASR (Attack Sustain Release) Envelopes with Attack, Release and Sustain settings for each Envelope.
8 LFO with the following waveforms: Sinus, Triangle, Sawtooth, Ramp, Noise and Random (randomly mixing through the waveforms).

The modulators can be manipulated in their stage and attributes from each sequencer step. The CV16 expander enhances the NerdSEQ with Polyphonic sequencing and recording within one or multiple tracks.

This is not a standalone product! It works only together with the NerdSEQ.

NerdSEQ 'More Triggers 16' Expander

Published on Apr 15, 2019 XOR Electronics

"A small introduction into the new 'More Triggers 16' expander for the NerdSEQ Eurorack sequencer. It adds 16 more Trigger/Gate outputs which are totally integrated into the sequencer."

"NerdSEQ is an 8–track Eurorack sequencer with a rich feature set, allowing you to sequence modules or MIDI compatible gear, put probabilities on probabilities, generate randomness (or, on the contrary, create and effortlessly save rigid song structures), upload & sequence samples and much more.

This software update is a major one as it elaborates on NerdSEQ’s many key capabilities and adds plenty more fun and flexibility – it is now possible to use its effective tracker–style workflow to sequence all of your external MIDI gear with per–track 4 voice polyphony across all channels. CC messages, Aftertouch, Pitchbend, Program change and NRPN are all accessible as well, and the imaginary cherry on top is that most of this can be manipulated by NerdSEQ’s Automations engine – meaning you can use its internal LFOs or external CVs for all sorts of crazy modulations and breathe some new life into your old rack synths collecting dust. All of this can be achieved with the MIDI I/O expansion.

All of this MIDI freakiness is just the start though – also out with this update is the ‘MORE TRIGGERS 16’ expander, offering 16 additional trigger/gate outs, chainable to up to 4 units/64 outputs, enough to trigger your room. On the software side, this means a super effective and simple drum matrix screen has been added and you can now set each of the six tracks per your preference – to modular, MIDI or trigger mode. The 2 sample tracks are fixed. More expanders are soon to follow, the closest one being ‘MORE CVS 16’ – we’ll let you figure out what will that one do on your own.

While these are the two most exciting and visible updates, there’s plenty more additions and improvements to the UI and functionality – color coding for tracks, track tempo dividers/multipliers and overall improvements in performance.

This free firmware update is now available on the XOR Electronics website and the More Triggers 16 expander available through its web shop and select dealers."

Published on Feb 3, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Hey Guys !!
Finally some music. This time I used Nerdseq for the bass line that comes from The Bateleur VCO from birdkids
also cowbel and snare are samples from Nerdseq used from an SD card.
The synth melody is also from Nerdseq but I recorded it through midi to Nerdseq and plays the Primary Oscillator module from Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers with added Black Hole DSP- Erica Synths reverb. Kick and hat comes from PICO DRUMS -Erica Synths later after 2:30 I also added one voice similar to Horns this is from PICO VOICE - Erica Synths plus Pico DSP reverb.
It's nicely subtle combined in the mixer tube Fusion Mixer plus Black Stereo Mixer - both from Erica Synths.
It was a nice evening and I recorded this live when the whole sound comes only from my modular system"

NERDSEQ-XOR Electronics unboxing and first track

Published on Jun 15, 2018 Dziam Bass

"We have an unboxing movie and the first music made on NERDSEQ from XOR Electronics.

This amazing and addictive sequencer works in total like a workstation.

Nerdseq is a Hybrid Tracker Sequencer in the Eurorack module, which allows you to transfer the programming capabilities of the Tracker and create songs based on it, intended for introduction into the world of modular synthesis.

Nerdseq is a tracking module based on the cv module and triggering sequencer (32HP) for Eurorack systems.

It consists of 6 tracks for the generation of CV / Trigger / MOD with 18 outputs. 4 configurable user inputs, clock and reset and 2 x 2 samples of sample sequencing paths. Tracker sequencer allows direct and quick editing and has great live skills.

18 are CV and Trigger sequences. CVs can be freely assigned to the scale of notes and / or modulation. 4 multifunctional inputs

2 additional samples for 4 path samples. Samples of samples, including a special sample-FX

This is only part of the possibilities of this great machine, as well as a great start in the 90s and the then popular Tracker."

The 'Right' Sequencer | Modular Composing | Episode 02

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Your possibilities to compose on a Modular Synth are directly related to the sequencer you're using. So picking the 'right' sequencer for your work is an important task. Your biggest challenge would be to compose or arrange a full song with beats, bass, lead and maybe even chords. I thought it would be fun to use Kraftwerk's 1976 Trans-Europe Express as a 'benchmark', but it turned out a big challenge. It has a simple rhythm (no problem), a super simple bass, a lead and the characteristic 'note ladder' that jumps 5 semitones each 1/2 note. This takes 128 regular steps and sequencers ususally stop at 16, 32 or 64 (if you're lucky). Clock divisions could take care of that. But the song transposes to a different key when the 'note stairs' plays and you'll need a powerful sequencer to transpose all voices to a new key and then turn back. Ground Control and Westlicht Performer couldn't pull it off. I had zero knowledge of NerdSeq at the beginning of this video, but it turned out to be the only sequencer I know of that can do a full song. It's an incredible sequencer/tracker, but it also has a 100+ page manual.

Sequencers roughly come in three flavors: linear, cartesian and arbitrary. The most useful sequencers can do drums, strict patterns and generative parts. I've included Five12 Vector and Eloquencer in my overview, but I have no experience with them. My 'findings' in this video are biased by my own music and workflow and I double-checked the manuals of modules I don't know. It's possible I overlooked some features. I am aware Vector can do drums, but I felt you'd need a dedicated drum pattern editor to qualify as a drum sequencer.
