Beetlecrab Tempera Granular Ambient
video upload by r beny
Click CC at the bottom of the player for the subtitles.
"Hello, I hope you are taking care. This video is a performance centered around the Beetlecrab Tempera granular sampler/synthesizer. My intention was to create a long form piece of music using only the Tempera, outside of sequencing (as Tempera currently doesn’t have a note sequencer).
I’ve had the Tempera for a while now, but have only recently gotten around to really getting to know it well - learning its ins and outs, learning its boundaries and edges. When learning a new granular instrument, one of the first things I like to do is figure out the relationship between grain length/size and grain density/rate. Tempera is quite unique in that regard, as grain sizes can span the entire length of the buffer (~11s in this instance) - this allows for one to play back entire samples as-is (polyphonically as well), without being “granularized”. On the other end of the spectrum, Tempera also excels at creating grain clouds with an abundance of short grains all firing off at once. I make use of both of these techniques in this video.
Some patch notes:
Tempera is loaded with 8 different samples from various sound sources from my studio. Each sample is just a single note of the sound source, recorded directly to Tempera. Tempera has a note detection feature, so each note was recorded at slightly different notes (mostly either A or C).
From to left to right across the 8 cells, the samples are:
Mannequins Mangrove
Mutable Instruments Rings (patched to make a “harp” sound)
Mangrove with another timbre
Korg Z1 (with a “flute patch”, which I didn’t end up using in this video)
Rings (patched to make a “glockenspiel” sound)
Korg Z1 (with a “bassoon” patch)
Felt Instruments Blisko Cello (with a Sul Tasto patch with only a single string)
Novation Summit (with a pad patch)
In the video, I use the 4 granular emitters in conjunction with sequencing from the Squarp Hapax to sequence and play the various samples across the grid. Emitter 1 is set up to play just a single grain per note, with a grain length that matches the entire buffer. Emitters 2-4 are set up in various grain cloud formations.
The Tempera is running the latest beta firmware as of 6/24/25 (2.2.beta13, shoutout to the Discord).
This is a long one. Thanks for stopping by and sticking with."

PinkPantheress vs Underworld (Circuit Tracks Mashup Remix)
video upload by Guinan
"Time for a bonus extra upload. The remix nobody asked for! (I dropped enough hints but nobody took the bait). I couldn't resist doing a version of this song that brought the Underworld version of 'Dark&Long (Dark Train)' with PinkPantheress' 'Illegal'.
Hopefully all previous glitches with the music are sorted and you can enjoy this version. It was programmed and played on just a single Novation Circuit Tracks. If you'd like more details as to how the track was put together check out the videos for the two component parts,"

An AUTHENTIC 90s Dance Music Setup
video upload by AudioPilz
"Hey everybody, this video is a dream come true as we are going to do something I’ve been wanting to do since I was a broke teenager back in the day: build an Original 90s Dance Music Production Setup including synths, drum machine, recording gear and sequencer.
All the equipment we will be using for making music today was brought to the market before the year 2000 and while you might be longing for the workflows of these seemingly simpler times - be careful what you wish for.
00:00 Introduction
00:33 Why 90s EDM Setups were revolutionary
01:14 THE SYNTHS - Novation Bass Station Rack (1995)

Children/Robert Miles - (Novation Circuits Dream Version)
video upload by Guinan
"Huge thanks to @hansotto8563 for this suggestion. Thanks again to all subscribers for their support. I’ve always loved this track and it remains a favourite to this day.
First released in 1995 this song was originally composed by DJ Robert Miles (real name Roberto Concina) as a ‘wind-down’ track for the end of his DJ sets. Credited as starting the genre of ‘dream house’ it was conceived as a way of reducing the death toll for clubbers returning from Italian clubs and falling asleep at the wheel.
The whole track was programmed and played on just the two machines’ pictured, a Novation Circuit Tracks and Circuit Rhythm. No additional synth or effects were used and the track was recorded straight from the output of the Rhythm (which mixed in the audio input from the Tracks).
I hope you enjoy the end result and check back soon for more tunes.
More details for synth nerds;
I’ve been thinking for a while as to how to cover this. Very much of the 90’s, it used sampled instruments and this made it harder to keep this an all-Circuit track. So much of the track relies on the impact of the piano and guitar samples I needed to reproduce these convincingly. I used my Circuit Rhythm purely as an expander in this case and all the sequences are played from the Circuit Tracks.
The Circuit Rhythm is running purely as a MIDI slave device for channels 3 and 4 only. I plan to detail how to do this in another video – mainly because the title ‘Make Rhythm Your Slave’ popped into my head and seemed too good to waste!
The original piano sound was apparently played on a Kurzweil K2000 and I managed to find a sample of the same sound. The Rhythm is monophonic and the sample is not multisampled but I think (with lot’s of reverb and delay) I managed to get it sounding not too bad.
The patches are self-programmed and I had some fun putting together the thunder and rain ambience effects from free online sample libraries.
The tracks are as follows.
TRACKS
Synth 1 – M1 Organ bass-like patch
Synth 2 – phased detuned sawtooth pad
MIDI 1 – MIDI channel 3 to piano sample track on Rhythm
MIDI 2 – MIDI channel 4 to acoustic guitar sample on Rhythm
Drum 1 – bass drum, 909 sample
Drum 2 – 909 snare sample
Drum 3 – 909 hihat and closed hihat samples.
Drum 4 – ambient samples for thunder, rain etc. (from various free online sample libraries) edited via phaser effect as per original track.
RHYTHM
Track 3 (MIDI channel 3) Kurzweil K2000 sample.
Track 4 (MIDI channel 4) Kawai acoustic guitar sample.
The remaining sample tracks and sequencer on the Rhythm were not used (to reduce the complexity of the track). I based the track on the Dreams version of the song and had to simplify it somewhat to fit in the Tracks. Many of the patterns were played at quarter speed and the notes played unquantized to use micro-steps to squeeze longer squences in. Nonetheless I’ve had to simplify the arrangement but I hope I’ve captured the spirit of this classic.
Thanks once again for watching. Fire away with any questions in the comments and stay tuned"

Cascade 05 | Synthesizer Ambient with Novation Summit
video upload by Moon Kyoo
"Two weeks in Korea felt like 5 days, leaving with some good memories 🏊 Here's my last jam of the trip, ambient as usual with a bit of late-night vibes.
Everything here was recorded live with the Novation Summit, with a sub layer added by pitching the original recordings down an octave."

Turning the SUMMIT or PEAK into an Oberheim
video upload by Starsky Carr
"Its remarkably easy to do the Oberheim thing on a Novation SUMMIT or PEAK I attempted to recreate a few of my favourite OB-X8 patches and the SUMMIT sounded amazingly close.
So I've looked a bit deeper and come up with some simple rules to stick within the limitations of the Vintage Oberheim to get those classic tones.
.. and it works a treat :)

Novation K-STATION - 3 oscillators, 3 melodies
video upload by Jake
"In this video, I created a patch by trying to make each of the three oscillators play a different tone. To do this:
Each oscillator is of course pitched differently.
The PW (or wave shaper) is adjusted on each of the oscillators to the minimum or maximum extremes so that the modulation of LFO2 slowly evolves the harmonics of each, sometimes making them almost inaudible.
Finally, the modulation of the wave shaper by envelope 1 is adjusted positive or negative differently on each of the three oscillators.
A 4-note arpeggio is played in "order" mode with a range of 2 octaves.
Internal effects:
Stereo half note delay
G hall reverb
Chorus
Direct recording on Tascam DR05X at 24-bit 44.1 kHz
Mastering on Wavelab

This patch is part of a series of 100 patches currently being created, available at the end of July 2025 at https://www.synthonia.com
Compatibility: K-station, X-station, A-station, KS4, KS5, KS-rack
