This could have been way shorter because it’s not happening much here but I got carried away 😌 adding the Meris Mercury X to the Strega can definitely bring some very nice results… i just have some difficulty taming the Strega itself and think i want an 0-ctrl for it but not sure to keep this or go for a Lyra-8 perhaps."

"«Explorer» is a collection of 50 patches: 13 Leads, 13 Basses, 13 Plucks, 6 Drones, 5 FX.
This soundset is the opposite of my previous one, 'Analog Classics,' where I focused on creating more vintage/classical timbres. In the "Explorer" bank of presets, I aimed to dive deeper into the Kobol Expander and achieve the most interesting and experimental results.

💎 The collection includes aggressive, bright, detuned, freaky, noisy, atonal, metallic, generative, evolving, rhythmic timbres.
Plucks are excellent for use with arpeggiators or sequencers. In most examples of this category, I utilize an arpeggiator. Kobol Expander doesn’t have a built in arp/seq, but you may integrate your preferred arpeggiators or sequencers from your DAW or MIDI controller.
Drones produce dark, distorted tones with heavy modulations, FM, noise, etc. They can be used as pads in genres like techno, industrial, or ambient to create a certain inharmonic atmosphere.

📻 The presets are suitable for a variety of genres, including: ambient, electronica, IDM, deep, techno, house, progressive, trance, lounge, downtempo, pop, chill out, new age, cinematic, breaks, jungle, drum and bass, dub and others.

📚 The soundset is presented in the form of PDF-Document. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.

⏱ To recreate these patches, you will need up to 5 patch cords.
There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset.

I was actually supposed to try out one of the patches from the Pulsar-23 patch-book available on the SOMA website but never got to it because I just continued tweaking this 😁"

"Here I’m just using the clock dividers to trigger the drums and bass and the bass is also sent individually to the delay for some extra effect while the rest is sent to reverb. The hihat also had the LFO running. Endlessly fun to just play the Pulsar like a living and breathing instrument 😄"

Here's how to sequence external gear with your Launchpad Pro, using a DAWless setup. The Pulsar 23 and Fireball are connected to the Launchpad Pro via midi, allowing the user to send midi notes and cc parameters to both the Fireball and Pulsar 23. This allows you to sequence and control each instrument. "The latest Soma Digest (16) had a link to a #Pulsar23 'diode' experiment by Conatus Modulari from Rotterdam, NL. I am not sure how many of you own a Pulsar, but I see it shine at many live gigs by many people, and recently Johno Wells dedicated a whole show to it. Anyway, this 'diode' trick is amazing. Basically you'd combine an LFO with a Clock, LFO patched to the right side, Clock to the Left. Also clock the LFO with something. Then, patch/pinch/clip another line from the Clock side to your kick trigger and adjust to taste. I don't know how it works, I just know I love it. It reminds me of euclidian rhythms, but there's no code, no logic, just analog magic.
There's a video to Conatus' video where he explains how it works so I can just jam and experiment with the Buchla keys."

Tim Kroker will present his composition and notation in collaboration with the Sample Music Festival (SMF) at the Pro, Light & Sound in Frankfurt/Main (Germany) from 20-23 March 2024 as well as at the SMF in Berlin from 12-14 July 2024."
