"A rare opportunity to own a Rhodes Chroma + Enabler!!!

All voice cards recapped, new PSU, CC+, Original re-foamed road case for the Chroma and a Brand new Orange Calzone for the Enabler (will add photos of cases soon just need to pull them out) Programming manual, Performance manual, Interface Manual, Dual Foot switch, Volume Pedal, sequence Pedal, CC+ Midi break out box, Behringer BCR2000 with the special Chroma overlay plus other misc collectable stuff like the OG brochure, parameter chart and print ads as pictured.

Chroma is perfect working order, i spent a fortune having it refurbished, all voices pass tune on start up no issues sounds amazing not to mention the Enabler which is brand new, I waited for 5 years for my number to come up but selling a couple of big items to make my escape into the wilderness as easy as possible, things change. Physically it's in great shape for it's age not perfect but still lovely.

Pick up from LA is much preferred but can ship as they come in cases just wont be cheap, if you're serious it's an option we can discuss no problem."

Paul T Schreiber of Synthtech / MOTM Retires From The Synth Business

"After 27 years, I have retired from the synthesizer business. I still have a #day_job which will last until Dec 1st. The last set of 16 modules shipped to Patchwerks in Seattle, including the last E520 Hyperions.

Is there a chance someone will buy my IP and continue the product like? I keep hoping. Thanks to everyone who were friends and customers."

---

The man behind MOTM and Synthtech/Synthesis Technology retires. Paul Schrieber was making modular synths in the MOTM 5U format before eurorack took off. He essentiall started his own format, 5U in height like Moog's MU 5U but different. See this old post for a pic of different modular formats. He made his modules available in both DIY and finished form. You all should be familiar with MOTM and Synthech if you are regulars of the site. If not, see the MOTM and Synthech labels for posts over the years.

Since the launch of this version of MATRIXSYNTH back in 2005, there have been a total of 831 MOTM posts, and roughly 367 Synthtech posts, including this one. I say roughly as there was another Synthtech that made the Chroma Cult - Rhodes Chroma MIDI Interface, that shares the Synthtech label I used to get the count. The first post to mention MOTM dates back to This EAR post on July 30, 2005, the second to MOTM Madness - Featuring Yamaha GX1 Filter clone on August 4, 2005. Sadly the mp3 linked there is gone. People let their sites go unfortunately. The first post to mention Synthtech is the Epic Son video by John L Rice from back on August 2, 2011. His designs also made it into non modular synths like this Studio Electronics Omega 8 w/ MOTM CS80 & 440 Filters.

Rhodes Chroma Expander SN 16330003

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Expander is a Rhodes Chroma in module format. About 150 were made. This is #3.

It has been fully serviced and upgraded by Randel Osborne who has restored many Chromas and also builds the Enabler controller [see this video].

- installation of the switching power supply (by Luca Sasdelli)

- installation of the CPU Plus (CC+) control board (MIDI upgrade with breakout cable)

- replacement of electrolytic capacitors and addition of bypass capacitors in sample/hold section of all voice cards

- refinishing of all woodwork

- complete synth testing, adjustment, cleaning

Extreme rarity, top-level restoration and essential upgrades make this Expander a very special instrument and high-value investment. It's the rarest version of ARP's most powerful synth, in perfect working condition. Amazing by itself or interfaced with another Chroma."

"RARE Rhodes Chroma with complete upgrade of eproms CC+ plus and SPSU specific switching power supply kit instead of the problematic original power supply.

The instrument was last serviced in 2017, since then it hasn't been used very much, but turning it on everything seems to still work perfectly."

OMBIENT: Live!@EMEAPP (4/22/23)

video upload by EMEAPP

"This was a fun night. On April 22, 2023 we held our first video shoot in our live studio space with an audience in attendance with Ombient and Electric Diamond on the bill.

Ombient (Mike Hunter) was the opening performer on the bill and in the space of 30 minutes, he took the entire room on an electronic sonic journey complete with custom projections by PYXL8R. Armed with his custom Synthesizers.com modular system, Koma Elektronik Komplex Sequencer, Rhodes Chroma, Oberheim Matrix-6, ARP 2600 re-issue and a slew of effects, Ombient's performance was ultimately a swirling, constantly evolving set reminiscent of artists such as Tangerine Dream and Ashra.

A big thank you to Ombient (Mike Hunter), PXYL8R (Ken Palmer) Electric Diamon (Stuart Diamond, Don Slepian and Karen Bentley Pollick) and to all of our volunteers for helping to make this night a well-oiled and enjoyable experience for all.

You can find us at www.emeapp.org where we invite you to join us as a member."

Fender/Rhodes Chroma Polaris Analog Synthesizer SN 300088

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"This unit is one of the first units made, because it has the Rhodes Chroma sliders, which are more durable and desirable. It is currently set to 220V but can be toggled back to 110V if desired.

It has been professionally calibrated, tested, & serviced, with a new membrane panel installed. It's quite a beautiful-sounding analog instrument, unlike anything made today.

It is MIDI ready for studio/DAW integration and plays nicely with modern setups despite its status as a modern classic. It is 100% functional, other than the red LED for Bank A is dead.

The Chroma Polaris was the 2nd synthesizer made by CBS/Fender/Rhodes after they took over ARP, following their classic Rhodes Chroma. It has a very ARP-like sound.

It has 2 envelopes, including a 5 stage ADSDR filter envelope, aftertouch support (via external controller), and true multitimbral capability, with sounds that can be layered up to 6 voices. It also has a simple real-time sequencer and 132 memory patches."

Rhodes Chroma - one song - one synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by The Synth King

You can find a playlist of single synth demos by The Synth King here.

"Here is another video with the RHODES CHROMA and a song exclusively produced with sounds from this single instrument. I use Steinberg Cubase 10.5 as DAW. FXs are Waves H-delay and Valhalla vintage verb.

Drums & persussion were also designed with the Chroma, then sampled, processed and imported into Steinberg Grovve Agent. Mastering has been done with Waves L2, thats it. Enjoy the music !!"

"8 note polyphonic synthesizer. One of only 2000 manufactured in the early 1980's, if you are interested in this one you will most probably know much more about them than me however you can read all about them if you click . The link will take you to a 27 year old article in Sound on Sound which refers to the value of a used Chroma at £1,500, those were the days, to put things into perspective a German owner recently advertised a faulty one on eBay at £15,000 so our valuation of £7,000 for a fully working model seems exceptionally fair. No offers please.

The Rhodes Chroma was never fitted with Midi during manufacture but it was possible to fit a Midi modification. When this one came in it had a fault which was caused by the Midi mod which no longer worked, during the service of the Chroma Adrian removed the faulty Midi kit and made other repairs so it is now 100% however the non-functioning midi sockets are still fitted to the unit."
