Propellerhead RE Eurorack Module Powered by MIND Music Labs ELK MusicOS

Yesterday, we were introduced to the MIND Music Labs ‘Powered by ELK’ Retrologue 2 Desktop Synth. Pictured left in the rack you can also see a Propellerhead RE eurorack module powered by ELK MusicOS. Check out what appears to be a prototype desktop VST host unit in orange. The following is the MIND Music Labs press release for SUPERBOOTH 19:

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: Swedish startup MIND Music Labs lets loose by showcasing several super-cool applications of its award- winning ELK MusicOS — the world’s first ultra-low-latency music operating system developed specifically for audio applications, ushering in a new era where the power, flexibility, and selection of audio and music software can be run in real time on embedded hardware with full MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) support — at SUPERBOOTH19 in Berlin, May 9-11…

Further fulfilling its ambition of creating new ways to bridge the gap between musicians and technology, changing how to learn, create, record, and share music, MIND Music Labs will be demonstrating the potential and flexibility of its seminal ELK MusicOS by showcasing a number of hardware product prototypes based on existing VST (Virtual Instrument Technology) and RE (Rack Extension) releases from world-class developers at SUPERBOOTH19, Europe’s first and largest trade fair for electronic musical instruments.

First stop: media production products provider Steinberg’s stand on owner Yamaha’s booth (H310). Here the German giant continues its partnership with MIND Music Labs in making VST a standard for hardware by showcasing the co-developed ‘Powered by ELK’ Retrologue 2, a proof-of-concept prototype desktop synth running Retrologue 2, Steinberg’s VST Virtual Analog Synthesizer — successfully emulating the warmth and fatness of classic analog synthesizers — on hardware.

However, ELK MusicOS is not only VST compatible but also runs RE plug-ins from fellow Swedish company Propellerhead, creators of innovative and affordable music software. Supporting the Propellerhead partnership, MIND Music Labs will be showcasing a Eurorack format synth module running the RE-compatible Polysix for Reason — utilising Korg’s proprietary CMT (Component Modeling Technology) to precisely model the circuitry of an analog polysynth classic from 1982 — on booth (O504).

Other must-see SUPERBOOTH19 showcases scheduled to take place at MIND Music Labs’ location there include several contrasting conceptual collaborative projects with the likes of plug-in developer Stefano D’Angelo, former DSP engineer at Arturia; Italian music and audio software company Audio Modeling, creators of the SWAM (Synchronous Waves Acoustic Modeling) engine; HISE, an open source framework for sample-based instruments; and Igor Nembrini of Nembrini Audio, creator of some of the most revered guitar amp plug-ins under the Brainworx brand for Universal Audio's UAD (Universal Audio Digital) platform.

Concludes MIND Music Labs CEO Michele Benincaso: “The different hardware prototypes we will be showcasing at SUPERBOOTH19 are all great examples of what ELK MusicOS is capable of. With ELK MusicOS you add the feel of playing an actual physical instrument — without losing the benefits and qualities of desktop plug-ins. I am very excited to show everyone at SUPERBOOTH19 what we have been working on.”

"Quadrature Oscillator (QUO)

The QUADRATURE OSCILLATOR (QUO) provides signals and features which make it ideal for controlling the Quad Panner . It generates two sine waves which are always displaced 90 degrees in phase from one another . This phase difference provides exactly the correct relationship for swirling a sound through quadraphonic space in a circular pattern (using the Quad Panner) . Since the Oscillator has a basic range from longer than 20 seconds per cycle to 500cycles per second, many effects can be produced . Swirling a sound at an audio rate produces interesting spatial and modulative effects. Additional features include linear VCA's for each of the outputs. so that spatial swirls can be made to decrease in size, effectively spiralling inward . A HOLD input"freezes" the outputs whenever pulsed high . Thus a swirl can be stopped at a given location, with the sound just "hanging there"until operation is resumed . Switches on the Panel allow disabling the oscillator, a feature which has been found to be useful for live performance .The use of this module is not limited to Quad Panning . The phase separation between the oscillator's outputs provides for many interesting cross-fading effects when they are used to control other Serge modules.

Dual Transient Generator (DTG)

The DUAL TRANSIENT GENERATOR (DTG) provides two independent outputs with voltage controllable rise and fall times. This module is identical to the Dual Universal Slope Generator except that it does not have all of the front panel features. This module is a useful, space-effective unit to be used for many of the same functions as the Dual Universal Slope Generator. Common uses of the Dual Transient Generator are for simple "AR"-type envelope generation, as a dual voltage-controlled low frequency oscillator, or as a voltage-controlled clock (especially suitable for clocking the Touch Keyboard Sequencer or any of the Sequencer Programmers). These functions can be patched with the Dual Universal Slope Generator, but since many of the features are left unused in these patches, the Dual Transient Generator provides the same function while using less front Panel space.

NAMM: UAD goes Firewire!

UAD ON FIREWIRE!

It’s been a long time coming, but we are incredibly excited to be able to announce that UAD Plugins are finally coming to the legion of users who only have Firewire ports available.

Introducing the UAD-2 Satellite…shipping this month!

Launching at NAMM 2011, the UAD-2 Satellite is Universal Audio's answer to the long-standing request for a Firewire-based UAD Card. No longer must a customer have PCIe slots or an ExpressCard port to be able to use UAD, now anyone with a Firewire 400 or 800 port will be able to bring the class-leading family of UAD plugins to their productions, wherever they go.

The UAD-2 Satellite is a rugged metal enclosure containing either the power of a UAD Duo or UAD Quad card inside. Slim yet reassuringly solid and sporting an illuminated UA logo on the front, the UAD-2 Satellite is powered with an included adapter and provides either FW400 and FW800 connectivity. Full PCIe-equivalent performance is available via FW800, with FW400 provided for total flexibility with a trade-off made in available bandwidth. Initially UAD-2 Satellite will support Mac only; PC development is underway and will come as a free update when complete. UAD-2 Satellite will share a FireWire port with an Audio Interface or Hard Drive, again for a trade-off in bandwidth. For more information please visit the Universal Audio site, linked below.

'This is a really exciting announcement, both for UA as a company, and for legions of musicians and engineers wanting to tap into UAD-2 plug-ins via Firewire,” commented Universal Audio President Matt Ward. “The UAD-2 Satellite is a sleek, high-quality product that delivers even higher quality results.'

'UAD-2 Satellite is the result of UA listening to our customers, and giving them a processing solution that is both elegant and powerful,” added UA Senior Product Manager Lev Perrey. “Coupled with our roadmap of exciting new plug-ins, we anticipate this product expanding our 40,000-strong UAD user base significantly in the years to come.'

Notable UAD-2 Satellite features include:
* Access the UAD Powered Plug-Ins library on select Firewire 800 and 400 equipped computers
* Compatible with a wide range of modern Intel-based iMacs and MacBook Pros (PC support in development)
* Run larger mixes in Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Performer and more — without taxing host computer CPU

Audulus 3.4 Update Adds Support for Multichannel Audio/CV Output

"Audulus LLC is proud to announce the release of Audulus version 3.4 - a free update for all Audulus platforms* allowing users to access up to 16 audio and control voltage (CV) inputs and outputs through two brand-new nodes called ADC (analog-to-digital converter) and DAC (digital-to-analog converter).

Previously, Audulus users were limited to two inputs and two outputs using the Mic and Speaker nodes. Now, with the ADC and DAC nodes, Audulus users can take full advantage of their DC-coupled** audio interfaces, such as the Expert Sleepers ES-8 and the Universal Audio Apollo.

This means that users can now integrate Audulus seamlessly with hardware synthesizers and analog effects pedals using their computer or iOS device.

Some examples uses include:
Sending and receiving simultaneous audio, modulation, and envelope CVs to up to 4 Eurorack filters for true analog filter polyphony
Clocking multiple Korg Volcas at different speeds or divisions of a master clock
Sequencing analog synthesizers with volt-per-octave (VPO) signals
Receiving multiple DC signals from hardware controllers like CV joysticks and ribbon controllers for ultra-high-resolution control over your digital synthesizers
Receiving, quantizing, and sending out analog VPO signals
Generating LFOs and envelopes of any imaginable shape
Using stompboxes on a send & return within your Audulus patches
Cloning, adapting, and modifying true work-alikes of digital and analog Eurorack modules
Generating quadraphonic or surround-sound-style effects for keyboards and guitar
Receiving an analog master clock and generating divisions, probability triggers, or Euclidean-style rhythm sequencing (or mix of all!)
Storing, recalling, and rapidly switching between different modular synth patch routings
Analyzing a guitar’s pitch and volume envelope within Audulus and converting them to an analog VPO and envelope signal
Using Audulus as a multi-effect rack with 4 mono inputs and outputs or 2 stereo inputs and outputs (with an Expert Sleepers ES-8)

These are just a few of the possibilities Audulus users have explored so far. To keep up with patches and modules using the new ADC and DAC nodes, sign up for the Audulus user forum and download and share your patches there - http://forum.audulus.com

An example of Audulus sequencing VPO signals and envelopes through an Expert Sleepers ES-8:

Users can also follow Audulus on Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Soundcloud, and Facebook @audulus for tutorials, video clips, and sound samples of what the ADC and DAC nodes can do.

If Audulus users have any questions about how to implement the ADC and DAC nodes, they can contact Audulus at support@audulus.com

Happy patching from all of us at Audulus!

* Audulus iOS requires the Apple Camera Connector Kit to connect to the Expert Sleepers ES-8.

**Most normal audio interfaces are AC-coupled. AC-coupling prevents a constant DC offset from damaging speakers and headphones. DC-coupled audio interfaces like the Expert Sleepers ES-8 are not required to use all 16 inputs and outputs of an audio interface or aggregate device. DC-coupled audio interfaces are required to send and receive accurate DC-offset analog signals such as gates, VPO signals, and envelopes.

Example Videos of Audulus + ES-8

This picture shows a self-oscillating filter entering Audulus through audio input 4 of the Expert Sleepers ES-8 using the ADC node, and sending two oscillators through outputs 7 and 8 of the ES-8 using the DAC node to the Mordax DATA oscilloscope in XY mode."

Endangered Audio Research AD4096 + Funk Box

"This is a demo of the now legendary, long-out-of-circulation Endangered Audio Research AD4096, with the Funk Box TR77 running through it. Very few videos show what the AD4096's Infinity Mode is useful for, which is crazy to me, because I feel like that's the best, most unique part of this pedal. Infinity Mode can be tuned to creep on the edge of self-oscillation in a really organic way. New signal pushes old signal out - and in that way it's almost like a looper, or even a tape bleed emulator.

Although a guitar pedal, mixing artists contact us all the time to tell us how they use the AD4096 on drum busses - especially for dub music! I think the AD4096 is killer on drums. You can get a really loose spring-reverb-like tone from short delays.

The Momentary Expand switch shorts the Depth pot and sends it into self-oscillation - the faster the clock speed (the Time knob turned to the right - "backwards" of how most pedals work), the faster it will run wildly into speaker-blasting range. However, with Infinity Mode engaged, you don't get the ever-louder-and-louder signal - it's "limited" because the new incoming signal pushes out the old. Also, if the Depth is turned all the way down, it becomes a momentary off switch.

The Delay line is a more traditional dark, fat analog delay sound, whereas the Echo line has a elevated, rarefied glittery tone. It's almost like an LPF and an HPF line. It also arrives just barely later than the Delay line. It overdrives beautifully, and thanks to its FET transistors, it has an almost tube-like breakup. The combination of these characteristics, along with the totally unique Infinity Mode, makes this the most tonally flexible and musically useful analog delay pedal ever made.

We get almost daily emails about these pedals at Endangered Audio Research. This unit is going to be donated to Oberlin College's TIMARA program when I'm done making demo videos for it, so don't bother trying to buy it from me. We are going to add more delay time with an aftermarket mod that will be available to the public, but first, I'm making a bunch of videos with different sound sources to show what the original sounds like.

EAR is also making a new, updated version of this later this year with expanded functionality, but gotta love the original unit - named one of the best 30 guitar effects in the world by Premier Guitar Magazine.

I don't deal in unprocessed, "clean" demos, because I don't believe it shows you more about the effect you're using. Nothing exists in a vacuum, especially music.

Contact me at mark@endangeredaudioresearch.com to reserve a new version of the AD4096, or to inquire about the aftermarket added delay time modification.

By the way, if you're a hater who thinks $375 is too much for 300ms of delay, you should get a digital delay and run it through a LPF. This pedal is not about time - it's all tone, baby.

Here's a link to Funk Box - a total must-have iOS drum machine. It's a fully featured drum machine with a bunch of different sounds from all sorts of classic analog and digital drum machines. It's only $5, and you are fooling yourself if you think the "real thing" sounds better.

Dialog Audio Announces SQ4 Sequence Processor Plug-In

"Dialog Audio unleashes unique sequenced modulation pattern possibilities with SQ4 Sequence Processor plug-in

COLOGNE, GERMANY: hot on the heels of its innovative MP3244 Modulation Processor synchronisation and modulation plug-in (and advancing update subsequently launched late last year to widespread critical acclaim), specialised performance tools developer Dialog Audio is proud to announce availability of its SQ4 Sequence Processor audio software plug-in — pushing processing boundaries beyond what has been previously possible with the creation of advanced sequences to modulate and synchronise audio hardware and software parameters from within a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) host application — as of January 15…

As implied by name, SQ4 Sequence Processor permits users to create unique sequenced modulation patterns — four sequences with up to 128 steps per sequence, so not so much one small step for man, but rather one giant leap for music-kind when it comes to the creation of advanced sequences to modulate and synchronise audio hardware and software parameters from within a DAW host application!
As such, the basic setup for most host applications is similarly straightforward, with only two tracks usually required. On one track the user needs to add SQ4 Sequence Processor itself, then add the target device — be that an external hardware or software instrument — to the second track, with a virtual MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) connection also needing to be made from the SQ4 Sequence Processor track to the target device track.

Thereafter, like its innovative MP3244 Modulation Processor software sibling, SQ4 Sequence Processor provides different connection capabilities (depending, of course, on the audio hardware setup it is being used with), which, interestingly, includes: controlling hardware synthesizers (or other hardware) with MIDI inputs via MIDI CC (Continuous Controller) messages, RPN (Registered Parameter Number) and non-RPN messages, or MIDI SysEx (System Exclusive) messages; modulating any analogue synthesizer capable of receiving CV (Control Voltage) signals simply by patching spare outputs from an audio interface (if DC-coupled) is perfectly possible, generating high-resolution audio rate CV modulation, or, alternatively, a MIDI-to-CV converter could always be pressed into play for any audio gear that can be controlled via CV. Owners of software-only setups need not feel left out of the picture, for SQ4 Sequence Processor can capably modulate soft synths and audio plug-ins within the host DAW to provide extended modulation possibilities.

Whatever way whatever user chooses to work, SQ4 Sequence Processor places a raft of fanciful features at their ever-more- expressive fingertips, including variable synchronisation options, which can be set from free running to hard sync. Note events can re- trigger a sequence and several running directions can be selected. SWING, SLEW (limiting), PHASE (offset), and GAIN controls can be adjusted to accommodate modulations for the target device.

SERGE MODULAR ANALOG SYNTHESIZER

images via this auction

"Each of the two panels was designed as a complete system or voice in and of itself but combined together there is an exponential increase in sonic power. The other important thing to remember is that with the Serge many of the modules can perform a number of different functions and the concept of "patch programmable" is inherent in the design. Based on how you patch the modules this system could have over 10 oscillators, 10 LFO's, 4 Envelopes, 6 Filters, 2 Sample and Holds, 5 VCA's, all sorts of cv and audio modifiers, mixers, sequencer and a whole lot more. The power is unmatched in any other system and would require a much larger system from other manufacturers to provide this level of functionality.

TOP PANEL:

* 8x2 Sequencer: This is an eight by two manual and clocked sequencer with some unique functions. The main CV outputs are "A" for the first set of 8 knobs in Row A and "B" for the second set of 8 voltage knobs for Row B plus a third output that is the difference of A and B. There is a main Clock Input that can be manually toggled on/of with the toggle switch. The sequencer can be clocked buy any red jack output as well as some of the blue outputs that have sharp positive going signals. The other inputs are for "Hold" which will stop the sequencer at what ever stage it is at when a trigger or gate is input. The Up/Down Input reverses that direction of the sequencer whenever it receives a pulse and the Reset input resets the Sequencer to the first stage when a pulse is applied. Each stage has a manual select button which can be used to select that stage when used as a manual CV programmer and when being clocked the buttons can be used to set the length of the sequence dynamically from between 1 to 8 steps. This allows for some amazing rhythmic patterns and dynamic changes. Really powerful and great for TB-303 type use.

* Active Processor: This module is basically a dynamic voltage controlled mixer and cross fader an can be used with either control voltages or audio signals. A cross fade mod input allows you to dynamically mix and or fade between the signals coming in the two inputs. You can also use this as a VC switch by allying a gate to the input. The bottom section is a cv inverter with the addition of a knob to further bias the output + or -.
* Dual Transient Generator: This module is one of the most powerful in the Serge system and uses the same circuit as the Dual Universal Slope Generator but is only 2" wide. Each side of this module can perform the following functions: Attack Decay Envelope, Attack Sustain, Decay Envelope, Low Frequency Oscillator, Audio Oscillator, Positive/Negative CV Slew, Audio Filter, Envelope Follower. Each side has a modulation input with a knob to determine if the incoming mod signal will modulate in a positive or negative direction. The left side has a black Input Jack the provides for filtering, slewing and envelope following. The right side has a 3 position switch that allows you to define if the incoming modulation signal at the bottom will modulate the Attack Time only, Decay Time Only or both Attack and Decay. You can get voltage controlled wave shape modulation as well....all amazingly cool!Note that the arrows for the switch and the Input jack are backwards on this module only and that is the way it came from the factory. Nothing wrong, you just need to keep that in mind.
* NTO New Timbral Oscillator: The NTO is one of the most powerful oscillators ever and has incredible sonics and versatility...like most Serge Modules. There are simultaneous Sawtooth, Triangle and Sine wave outputs in addition to a Variable Waveform output whose waveform can be CV selected, modulated and controlled. There are (3) control inputs...a 1volt/octave, a mod input with a knob to determined + or - direction and a voltage controlled portamento input. This is a cv input with voltage controlled slewing or glide with the addition of a manual knob to set the basic amount of slewing!! Last but not least is a voltage controlled FM input with an offset knob. There is also a Sync input to allow for syncing to another audio signal. This single oscillator can make truly incredible sounds and can be modulated out the wazoo.

Bleep Labs HSS3jb Audio Video Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"The Hard Soft Synth 3jb is the new audio / video synthesizer by noisemaker extraordinaire, Gieskes.

It features 15 modes of audio/video excellence, each with 4-5 variables of control. There are also 8 video-only modes designed for use with the trigger and audio inputs. An adjustable analog filter keeps everything smooth (or as gnarly as you’d like).

The HSS3jb can produce all the same audio and video as the HSS3i, but it adds many more color options and controls as well as a more stable and and colorful video output.

Features

15 audio + video modes and 8 video-only modes.
Audio, IR, and trigger input as well as trigger out. IR with Handmade Music Austin or Gieskes devices, hook it up to a modular via trigger or use the audio input to control the sounds and video of the HSS3i.
Analog low-pass filter controlled via photocell.
MIDI input controls device parameters.
Circuit bending, color switching, fade, and individual color controls for video.
New enclosure and more compact design (5.5″ x 3.5″ x 2.5″).
Outputs NTSC and PAL
The device outputs analog RCA, S-video and VGA but only the RCA is guaranteed to work with any device it is plugged into. Some devices don’t like the peculiar VGA it produces, unfortunately.

Power Supply is included: A 7.5 V DC power supply with a 2.1 mm positive tip that delivers at least 750 mA is required. The one provided only works in the United States. International customers are advised to get a universal power supply with the necessary specs.

Frequently Asked Questions

jb?

Gieskes sells a version called the HSS3j. The HSSjb adds glitch switches, the “stable” mode which makes the output solid blocks of color rather than lines, as well as an enclosure.

What does the midi input control?

You can control some variables of the HSS3i over midi. See the user guide for the implementation chart.

What does the audio input do? Is this thing an effect? Can I run my guitar through it?

It’s not an effect but it does allow you to hook up an audio source to trigger off of. The audio input works best with rhythmic sources, but all kinds of sources can create interesting effects. The list of what the inputs do in different modes is in the user guide.

Can the HSS3jb do everything the HSS3i could?

Yes, and more!"

SONAR V-Studio 100 Software Features

VS-100 Production Pack (Win/Mac) suite of effects and instruments includes:

VX-64 Vocal Strip is a seven-stage processor designed specifically for shaping and sculpting incredible sounding vocal tracks. Each of the VX-64's stages have been fine-tuned to be vocal-specific, taking the work out of dialing in an entire chain of vocal processors. The VX-64 features a new Cakewalk technology that employs phase-coherent, multi-band saturation to avoid unwanted distortion; unique filtering to avoid harsh artifacts at extreme high and low frequencies; and an auto-leveling circuit that prevents the tube saturation from sounding too harsh when high gain transients are processed by it. VX-64 also employs a new de-essing algorithm designed with Cakewalk's LP64 linear phase effect filtering technology to remove sibilance without creating any frequency smearing.

Processing stages include:

* Input — simulates a tube pre amp
* De-esser — removes sibilance without smearing
* Compander — vocal compressor with an expander to reduce unwanted background noise
* Tube EQ — for adding character ranging from subtle warmth to intense heat to the vocal
* Doubler — advanced doubling effect providing the quality of actual re-tracking
* Delay — preset delays useful for vocal tracks with tempo sync
* Output — provide saturation control with a built in soft-clipping filter
* Order of processor stages is user definable with click & drag reordering

Channel Tools — provides easy and powerful control over individual placement of the left and right channels anywhere in the stereo field. Ideal for adjusting L/R channel placement, gain, pan/width, and phase; also provides a widening or narrowing effect to stereo recordings through adjustments to mid-side gain.

Boost 11 Peak Limiter — gives your tracks radio-ready punch through transparent peak limiting and volume maximization without additional coloring of the source material. Boost 11 employs a "look-ahead" limiter and PDR (Program Dependent Release) to provide professional results with a simple interface.

Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 LE — built on the latest award-winning guitar amp modeler from Native Instruments; 3 amps and cabinets, 11 effects, tuner, metronome, and over 50 presets.

Dimension LE — a streamlined version of the acclaimed Dimension Pro instrument from Cakewalk. Dimension LE features over 400 sound programs, ranging from bass, organ, and electric piano samples to cutting-edge synth sounds, rhythmic grooves, and a special edition of Garritan Pocket Orchestra.

Rapture LE — is a special version of the award winning Rapture wavetable synthesizer. It includes over 200 programs and hundreds of oscillator shapes. Rapture LE is perfect for performing the modern synthesized sounds igniting today's pop, dance, and electronic music.

Cakewalk Studio Instruments — a collection of four virtual instruments that provide a fast and easy way to create backing tracks using a photo-realistic, interactive user interface. Instruments include a Drum Kit, Bass Guitar, Electric Piano, and String Section.

SONAR VS digital recording software (PC only) — a special entry level DAW based on the powerful SONAR 8 audio engine but offering a streamlined user interface.

Doepfer Modular A-106-1 Xtreme Korg MS-20 Filter

via this auction

"below is the manufacturers info:
[possibly the longest ever]

Module A-106-1 has it's origin in our experiments to built a MS20 filter clone. The famous original MS20 included two filters: a 12 dB lowpass and a 6dB high pass filter connected in series both with a very special design (the MS20 highpass if very often described as 12dB high pass, but this is not true). During our researches we found a way to use the same circuit simultaneously as lowpass and highpass for 2 different audio signals (a bit similar to the A-101-1 Steiner Vactrol filter that has even different audio inputs available, but with the special MS20 circuit). For this two separate audio inputs for lowpass (LP) and highpass (HP) with separate level controls are available. The sockets are normalled, i.e. the signal applied to the LP input is available for the HP input too provided that no plug is inserted into the HP input socket. The level control of the HP input is realized as a polarized input. This means that the signal can be added with the same polarity (+ range) or opposite polarity (- range) compared to the LP input. This feature enables notch (+) and bandpass (-) filter functions too. From our point of view this is the most flexible solution that enables e.g. these functions: Lowpass: the audio signal is fed to the LP input, HP level control is set to zero, LP level control is set to the desired levelHighpass: the audio signal is fed to the LP or HP input, LP level control is set to zero, HP level control is set to the desired level (in this special case it does not matter if positive or negative amplification is chosen with the polarizer control)Lowpass/highpass mix with one audio signal: the audio signal is fed to the LP input, LP and HP level controls are set to the desired levels. special setting 1: if the level controls for LP and HP are set in a way that both levels are identical with the same polarity (i.e. + range of the HP level control) and no or little distortion only one obtains ~ a notch filter (the "~" indicates that the notch is far from beeing perfect, the attenuation in the passband is not as good as for other filters of the A-100 system, look at the frequency response curves at the bottom of this decoment for details)special setting 2: if the level controls for LP and HP are set in a way that both levels are identical with the opposite polarity (i.e. - range of the HP level control) and no or little distortion only one obtains ~ a bandpass filter (the "~"

"Audio Mixer w/ phase switch (3x1) (AMX)

The Audio Mixer is a three-in/one-out manual mixer with a phase switch on input 3.

Variable Q VCF (VCFQ)
The VARIABLE Q VCF (VCFQ) is an excellent general-purpose VCF offering simultaneous low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and notch (band-reject) outputs. The resonance (Q) of this filter is dynamically variable by manual or voltage control. The VCF Q has two signal inputs. One incorporates an automatic gain control to prevent the filter from overloading at high Q settings. The second input has a level control so that the percussive effects of overloading the filter can be exploited. When a pulse is applied to the Trigger input, the filter will ring, producing a damped waveform similar to that produced by striking a resonant object. The nature of this ringing is controlled by the Q and the filter frequency. Percussive effects ranging from clicks to the soundof wood blocks and bell tones can be produced and controlled. This ringing effect can be used in conjunction with signals applied to either of the audio inputs to achieve highly controlled complex tonal qualities.

Other comments:
A nice bit of flexibility is the "LO" setting that turns it into a CV processor! ... Recent updates to the filter's circuitry are noticeable as well- Its much easier to get tube-type harmonic warmth just by nudging the gain control. The feedback and overdrive characteristics have also been tweaked to be more musically useful... This filter will not oscillate unless you patch it up for feedback... Hi-Lo range switch for fantastic and unique audio/cv applications - hit it with a pulse, get an unbelievably slow damped sine wave.Calibrated 1 v/oct and attenuated cv inputs, just like the oscillators... Since it's a multi-mode filter, it's 12 dB/oct roll-off. You may want a LPF with more 'bite' in some applications. I think the bandpass and all pass sections of this filter have 6 dB/oct roll-off.

Endangered Audio Research AD4096 + Funkbox TR-808 Drum Machine

Published on Jan 29, 2016 Bimini Road

Follow-up to Endangered Audio Research AD4096 + Funk Box TR77 Drum Machine

"This is a demo of the now legendary, long-out-of-circulation Endangered Audio Research AD4096 Analog Delay, with the Funk Box TR-808 running through it.
