WMD Black Panels WHAT!?! - WMD is moving to a new look!

Published on May 6, 2019 WMD

"In order to provide our user base with the best possible quality product possible, we decided that it was time to bring our panel making process in house. This is one of the last processes that we had been outsourcing as it is a very difficult thing to get right.

We finally landed at a process that we are extremely excited to share.

From now on, our modules will all feature a virtually indestructible panel made of black anodized aluminum with engraved artwork and lettering. For now, we are only offering newly build modules as black versions. We do not have the time or resources to offer a black replacement panel for each module however this may become an option down the road. As we run out of things, we will be filling new orders with black versions, starting with Crucible, Fracture, Chimera, and of course, METRON.

We will be offering this process as a service for companies looking to make the switch. Please email info@wmdevices.com for more information! We cannot offer one-off custom work at this time. Production quantity inquiries only please!

Thank you all for your support over the past 12 years and for your patience while we make this transition. We truly feel like this is going to take our build quality to the next level."

Synth jam with Arturia MiniFreak, Dreadbox Erebus, eurorack drums, and Reason 12 synths

video upload by Jay Hosking

"An impromptu song that started on hardware synths and eurorack, and was finished by adding some extra sounds in the box.

This is a great example of why I love both hardware (it's inspiring!) and software (it has incredible power and can get the job finished!). Here, I was just trying out a new eurorack drum sequencer, decided to send the kick trig to the Erebus, and then began noodling on top with the MiniFreak. I wrote the song before I even knew I was writing a song. And while it was super inspiring, I could tell that I'd need a bunch more instruments to make the song feel finished. Rather than expanding the table and slowing down the creative process, I captured the inspiration already there and finished off the job in Reason afterward. It was definitely the right approach.

Dreadbox Erebus through Source Audio Ventris - bass synth locked to kick
Arturia MiniFreak - melody and pads
Eurorack drums:
- Intellijel Steppy - sequencer
- Mystic Circuits IDUM - extra glitch sequencing
- ALM Busy Circuits Pamela's New Workout - clock and LFOs
- Prok drums - kick, snare, hats
- WMD Fracture - glass-breaking claps
- Intellijel Mixup - mixing
- Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio - ducked reverb
- Intellijel FSR 1U - performance of glass breaking and reverb room size
- Endorphin.es Golden Master 1U - multi-band compression and EQ
- Intellijel Mixer 1U - output mixer
Reason 12 instruments:
- Monotone - extra bass stabs in bridges and choruses 2 and 3
- Complex-1 - arp thing, and drone/brass/pad thing
- Audio editing/pitch adjustment of the Erebus notes in the chorus (didn't have enough hands during the jam)

Hardware synths recorded together live, with a few extra tracks in the box afterward. EQ'd, compressed, limited, etc. during the final mix/master.

Thanks for listening.

Ambient then heavy with Moog One, Subsequent 37, Hologram Microcosm, and eurorack drums

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/jayhosking
A live, semi-improvised synth jam performed entirely on hardware.

The Moog One has become my end-of-day synth, where I just sit down and play for comfort. That ends up shaping the music itself, I think, and definitely is where this song emerged. I started with something ambient and melancholy, but I knew I wanted it to get huge.

Using the Moog One's multiple timbres, I made a pad, motif, and bass sound, and sequenced it all internally. For some extra oomph, I added my eurorack drum setup, which is sounding even better now that the Endorphin.es Ghost got a firmware update to improve filter and add sample rate reduction.

I couldn't get the Moog One to send clock out to the eurorack drums, so I had both synth and drums free running at the same tempo. I was happy they didn't drift too much!

And toward the end, I realized I needed another timbre for melody/lead, so I added the Subsequent 37. It's still one of my absolute favourites; it just has "that sound." The Microcosm adding some nice character to the melody, as well.

Moog One - three synth timbres (pad, motif, bass), effects, sequencing
Moog Subsequent 37 + Hologram Microcosm - lead/melody
Eurorack drums:
- Intellijel Steppy 1U - drum sequencing
- Mystic Circuits IDUM - extra drum sequencing colour
- Prok Kick, Tiptop 808 Snare, Prok Hats, WMD Fracture - drum voices
- Intellijel Mixup - mixer
- Intellijel FSR 1U - performance pad for extending perc decay
- Endorphin.es Ghost - filter, delay, reverb, compression, drive, sample rate reduction

Performed and recorded live, with additional drive on the bassline, plus EQ, compression, and limiting, especially on the master.

Thanks for listening.

Sqeaky Clean BEMI Buchla Music Easel w/ Original Box & Accessories

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Extras:
Easel Buddy accessory box (I designed and built these. There were only 10 made, and this is one of them)
Printed out 60 page manual (Sorry trees, but I'd rather be touching you than looking at a screen while playing with the Easel)

My name is Max Neutra. I am an artist and designer (google me if you are curious). Before I started working in the visual arts, I made electronic music for 10 years, culminating in releasing an album on Mofohifi Records called Automation Addiction in 2010 (it's on Spotify, give it a spin), which features a myriad of unusual sound sources, from synths like the Future Retro 777 and the Dave Smith Evolver, to toys like the Bee Gees rhythm machine and Mego Muson, to a selection of vintage Casio keybaords. (see pic). I have collected and played with many sound toys and synths over the years, and very few transcend the standard definition of what they are like the Music Easel does. Dial up a patch, fire up the sequencer, engage the arpegiator, and you can feel new neural pathways being formed in your brain as you dance your fingers around the keyboard. This is no mere synthesizer. It is a space ship for your mind. Playing with it, you get the impression that with the right sonic signature, you just might tear a hole in the fabric of reality and reveal the true nature of the universe.

If the Make Noise 0-Coast was a Speeder Bike (sure! cool, fun, fast), the Music Easel is the Millennium Falcon.

These days, I am a dad, have a design gig at Meow Wolf (that I love), and I still dabble in electronic music, mostly playing around with my modular setup (Intellijel Metropolis and Atlantis, Euclidian Circles, Tip Top Drums, WMD Fracture, Bassimilus Iteritas Alter, Braids, Bastl Soft Pop, and Varigate 8, with a little sweetening from my Strymon Magneto.) I bought the Easel five years ago, just before my daughter was born. It was probably some kinda panic buy, like, I better get this thing while I still have time to play with it. Although I did get a chance to play around with it, and it is indeed glorious, in the end, it's spending 99% of it's existence packed up, partially because I just don't have much time to mess around these days, and also I like to protect it and keep it as minty fresh as possible."

WMD Eurorack Drum machine and Empress Effects Zoia

Published on Jun 17, 2019 WMDevices

"Mixing worlds between guitar pedals and modular synths is a super fun way to get more out of a minimal set up.

In this video, WMD Metron is in control of a 4 channel drum machine. Each of our drum modules, Chimera, Fracture, and Crucible are running through the WMD/SSF Blender 4 channel mixer with 2 drums going to Left and 2 drums to the right.

The ZOIA is receiving CV (gate signals) and Audio from this @wmdevices Eurorack drum machine. The Gate signal from Metron is triggering an ADSR envelope on the ZOIA. This ADSR opens a filter connected to a randomized polyphonic chord on the ZOIA made possible using the new scale options on the ZOIA’s quantizer tied to a single random LFO.

ZOIA is processing 2 separate channels of audio with 2 drum tracks on the Left channel and 2 drum tracks on the right, each channel has separate effects going into the ZOIA’s mixer and lastly into a stereo reverb on the ZOIA."

WMD JAM With Fracture, Chimera & Prototype Sequencer NAMM 2018

Published on Jan 26, 2018 Perfect Circuit Audio

"WMD played this jam on some of their eurorack modules for us at NAMM 2018. The clap sound comes from their new Fracture module which is a granular sample based drum module related to the Chimera, but focused on claps and snares instead of hats. They also had a prototype grid sequencer sequencing the patch."

Kraken by WMD - Physical Modeling Snare Drum

video upload by Synth Diy Guy

"A deep dive into this amazingly advanced digital snare drum module by WMD!

Stay Noisy!"

See the dealers on the right for availability.

"Kraken is a physical modeling snare drum module for eurorack modular synthesizers.

No samples, 100% digital synthesis with the ability to make realistic snare drums of all sizes, shapes, materials, and colors. Similar to Crucible, Kraken uses a network of classic synthesis blocks like delay, digital filters, and noise to create a very unique resonator.
"Crack-in" to the snare drum sound you're into most by adjusting parameters that corelate to physical drum properties such as shell type and size, head tightness, amount of overtone, and how tight and bright the snares sound.

You like snare samples? Great! Although Kraken does not use any recordings to generate sound, you can get a perfectly repeatable snare sound, similar to a sampler by using digital noise to generate the sound of the "snares". Dial in the decay to cut the sound short, and use different gate lengths to mimic "gate" mode style sounds in samplers.
Want your snare to sound more realistic? Switch to analog noise to imitate the subtle difference of a drummer hitting the snare slightly different on each hit.

Perfect Pitch... kind-of. Optional pitch shifter on the output widens the sonic palette as well as the frequency range, while imparting a unique character of it's own, reminiscent of old school samplers and pitch shifter pedals. Pitch knob and CV input take control of the pitch shifter when in this mode.

Wreck the ship with the Wreck switch and CV input. 3 different distortion characters push the envelope that much further with an analog style gained up hard clipping, wavefolding, and bit depth reduction.

At some shell settings, gain gets loud and fedback like running a snare mic through a distortion pedal. The wavefolder sounds like over-the-top compression with lots of high frequency content. The bit depth reduction setting let's you dial in a desired amount of "vintage" digital artifacts. Moving the switch to these different modes is only a preview. Use the Wreck CV input for the most control over your sound.

Kraken is begging to be sequenced. Use the Head, Rim, and Accent gate inputs to start your basic rhythm of hits, sidesticks, rimshots and accented sounds. Sequence the Velocity input with a variable CV source to bring the pattern to life and put the drummer behind the kit.
Pair with Crater, Fracture, Chimera, and Crucible for a completely unique set of drums for your Eurorack Modular Synthesizer.

Highlights:
- No samples, 100% digital synthesis
- 3 built-in distortion types
- Digital and analog noise source
- Pitch shifter
- Wide range of sounds
- Two trigger inputs - Hit both simultaneously for a realistic "rimshot" sound."
