Pittsburgh DNA Symbiotic Waves - Unlimited Possibilities

Follow up to my first video. This one is more about patching in the filter, envelope, the arpeggio feature on the Midi3 module, and some trials with the sample-hold/glide on the Toolbox module.

To put the possibilities into perspective do the math. There are 16 wavetables on OSC1 and 16 processor types. That's 256 combinations right there. Then consider 16 wavetables on OSC2, that makes 4096 different combinations. Then think about tweaking the tuning, balance, and processor amounts to change the color of the sound. It is absolutely mind-boggling.

Sorry the video is shaky, my stand for the eurorack is wobbly. I will probably start shooting these videos on something more stable."

G-Storm Euro Modules Short Compilation

video upload by gstormelectro

"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2021

Been a long time posting anything.
There are environmental factors interrupting my workflow right now.
So in the meantime I have cut together a short compilation of my favorite module clips.
Enjoy.
Hope to be back making vids soon. Stay tuned.

Short Size Spring Tank Electro Jams - Reverb Driver Version 2 [Demo 02]

video upload by gstormelectro

"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2023

Today I made a couple of demo songs featuring my Spring Tank Reverb Driver version 2. The module has been optimized for Ruby Tube 2EB2C1B Short size tank by changing R8 to 3K value resistor. I'm quite taken with this tank, it's nice and drippy. I will be offering some module/short-tank optimized combos for sale in my reverb store - see link below.

0:00 60 BPM Dub | Spring Tank on Drumbrute Impact Snare
1:56 90 BPM | Spring Tank on the 101-VCO/VCF
Take note in this second jam I am using CV control over the Spring Tank wet/dry mix using a Sample-and-hold with portamento.

Check my Reverb store for the combo Spring Tank Reverb Driver and the Ruby Tubes short tank.

Behringer RD-9 Doing Slower Tempo

video upload by gstormelectro

"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2021

The Behringer RD-9 Rhythm Designer drum machine just rolled in the door.
Today I'm showing 3 little vignettes of what it sounds like doing slower tempo stuff with SH-101, TD-3 and some eurorack stuff.

3 parts:
0:00 90 bpm w/ Roland SH-101. I put fx processing on some of the individual outs. You might like headphones or monitors to get the full sound.
1:18 80 bpm w/ Eurorack + Keystep Pro. RD-9 through Big Sky then DBX 160A compressor
3:01 100 bpm w/ TD-3. RD-9 low tom getting lo-shelf at mixer then Reverb + Delay. Some use of Probability and note-repeat (ratchet) on the closed hats.

The wave designer features were not used.
No mastering or post processing. This recording could have used some.
The RD-9 definitely has punchy transients, I kept turning my record
level down but still peaking my Tascam DR-05. So the average level
sounds kinda low to me."

Setting A Roland Jupiter-6 On Fire

The Roland Jupiter-6 Synthesizer is an absolute MONSTER. Pads, Bass, Arpeggio, Strings, Leads - it's all here. And the JP-6 is my favorite go-to synthesizer for SOUND EFFECTS. I have crammed a plethora of strangely beautiful effects and noise that demonstrates its versatility which is beyond comprehension.

Obviously no actual synthesizers were harmed in the making of this all Roland Jupiter-6 demonstration. The TR-8 provided rhythm backing, Big Sky and Timefactor for effects. All tracks were recorded direct to Cubase SX3 via E-mu 1616. NO additional production, eq, compressors, mastering, etc. was used whatsoever."

E-MU ESI-32 for Pure Lofi Sampler Bliss [Demo]

video upload by gstormelectro

"Video and audio by G-Storm Electro c. 2022

Today I'm exploiting the ESI-32 rack sampler for lofi/crunchy/funky sound in multi-timbral mode. Drums were sampled at mono 22K then downsampled to 12K bandwidth, everything else down to 8K. All you're hearing is the ESI-32 sampler including built-in chorus, and internal LFO applied to autopan/vibrato. The audio was recorded direct to Tascam DR-05, no additional effects or mastering.

ESI-32: bit of an underdog, in that early 90s era when samplers started to overcome their limitations of memory, bandwidth, storage media, and processing capabilities. At a fraction of the current selling price for other vintage samplers of the late 80s that preceded it."

Boss/Roland PH-2 Super Phaser Pedal Demo w/ Synthesizers #8

Published on May 22, 2017 gstormelectro

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c.2017

In this video I am running various synthesizers through a Boss/Roland PH-2 Super Phaser Pedal. The PH-2 is an analog pedal made from the mid 80's to 2001. Since the PH-2 is monophonic I will be auditioning it in both mono, and with stereo widening provided by an Eventide Timefactor. Sounds range from Jean Michel Jarre to Polymoog Vox Humana as heard on Gary Numan 'Cars'.

Roland JX-8P Sounds

Published on Dec 27, 2014 gstormelectro

"All audio and video content c.2014 G-Storm Electro
http://gstormelectronica.blogspot.com/

These are some of my original patches made for the Roland JX-8P synthesizer. Bass, dark string and synth pads, arpeggios and stabs.

There are some realtime patch edits in this demo without the use of the external programmer, so go ahead and give that EDIT slider a nice workout. Would have been nice if the edit slider had a pass-thru data function, that is why you will hear some edit jumps in the audio.

In addition to utilizing the Beatstep for sequence duties, there is gratuitous amounts of delay and reverb added to most sounds."

Roland JX-8P Demo #3 - Skywriter

Published on Jul 21, 2016 gstormelectro

"Audio and video by G-Storm Electro c.2016

This is the Roland JX-8P, possibly one of the most under-rated synthesizers. This time I have multi-tracked live takes with Big Sky and Timfactor effects-fueled production chock full of EQ, compression and a few dubious mastering techniques. The TR-8 drum machine is barely breaking a sweat, churning out a painfully simple beat. There are some factoids relating to the JX-8P along the way. What is this music? I call it a cheesy 80's dream pop rendition in 3/4 time with almost a two step feel. I know, I'm scratching my head too...I was very tempted to scrap this during recording. But it was too fun to see it through, too odd not to post, too catchy for me to easily dismiss."

Listen to this and just try not to fall in love with the Roland JP-08 module. I have packed a ton of Roland JP-08 sounds into a demo that demonstrates the JP-08 in action. Most of the patches are original, except a factory string patch.

ALL synthesizer sounds originate from the JP-08. The TR-8 provided rhythm backing, Big Sky and Timefactor for effects. All tracks were recorded direct to Cubase SX3 via E-mu 1616. NO additional production, eq, compressors, mastering, etc. was used whatsoever."

Oberheim Matrix-12 Sounds

Uploaded on Aug 2, 2011 gstormelectro·47 videos

Also see the Matrix-12 tutorials by gstormelectro here.

"Selected patches can be downloaded http://gstormelectronica.blogspot.com/

This is sound demo of the Oberheim Matrix-12 synthesizer. All but two sounds programmed by G-Storm Electro. Hopefully shows some of the ridiculously flexible sound architecture that is possible with this board. I'm playing some riffs both of my own original music and from some of the bands that have influenced me. The last bit, Intro to Gunslinger, while it is short it DID take a couple of weeks practice to get it right and is backed by a Machinedrum.

A summary of song riffs played:
G-Storm - Miranda (By The Sea)
Radiohead - All I Need
Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence
G-Storm - Cerulean Deraileur
Jimmy Van M ft. Terra Deva - bassline from Love Like Sleep
G-Storm - Spaced Out Beauty
New Order - Blue Monday
G-Storm - Aerial
808 State - breakdown from In Yer Face
Garbage - You Look So Fine
Sasha - Mr Tiddles
Go West - intro to Call Me
G-Storm - untitled track
G-Storm - Expectations (a really old unrecorded track of mine)
Spaced Out Beauty
M83 - You Appearing
Expectations
Immersion Domain - 1000 Images (I used the same Limuidz factory patch on the Xpander for that track)
Van Halen - I'll Wait (Eddie used an OB-Xa, I believe)
G-Storm - Descendant
Vangelis - Blade Runner (Opening Titles)
G-Storm - Gunslinger
G-Storm - intro to Gunslinger

Recorded via Alesis Multimix-8 and into Macbook w/ only occasional additional effects from the Multimix added for select sounds."

"Output Expander for GSE 101-VCO

Companion module for the GSE 101-VCO.
Adds 5 buffered, individual waveform outputs.

What you can do with the 101E:
- Send each waveform to a mixer and give them different panning in a stereo configuration
- Use the Noise for percussion apart from what the synth waves are doing.
- Send two waves to a dual VCA, and use modulation to crossfade them.
- Send the waves to different filters, each having their own sequence.
- Toggle different waves using a 1x4 sequential switch, or the GSE Infusor-X, for wavetable-like effects.
- Send two waves to a sidechain processor like the Worng LRMSMSLR.
- and much more!

This module requires the 101-VCO and Eurorack +/-12V power for operation.

Synthesis Technology E560 Deflector Shield Demo Eurorack Module

Published on Oct 25, 2016 gstormelectro

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c.2016

Today I demonstrate the Synthesis Technology E560 Deflector Shield module. It is a digital effects module that has Frequency Shifting, Ring Modulation, and Phase Shifting. There's not as much talking in this one. I read the documentation and still don't fully understand everything that is going on. But it sounds absolutely wicked.

I show what effect all controls have on the sound. This demo uses a simple sawtooth from my Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizer Box as the sound input. Each knob has its own dedicated CV input, as demonstrated by passing a triangle LFO also from the Synth Box to each CV input as an example.

There are a tonnage of little sweet spots. Paul Schreiber has done an amazing job on this one. This module stereo outputs were sent to my Mackie mixer and panned hard left/right, and recorded direct to a Tascam DR-05 w/ no other effects or production so the E560 can shine in all its glory.
