3am - Steep

Published on Feb 3, 2018 justin3am

"Self-generating modular bleeps, screeches and rhythms. Improvised feedback.

Featuring:
Koma Field Kit
Pearl Snare Drum
Make Noise Shared System
Lots of other eurorack stuff
Elektron Analog Heat

I played a snare drum with a speaker, by feeding signal back from two contact mics attached to the drum, via a Koma Field Kit. Different tensions around the rim and dampening drum heads with my hands results in tonal changes depending on where I put the speaker."

0-Coast first patch

Published on Jan 5, 2017 justin3am

"I told myself that I would stick to patching the 0-Coast to itself at first, but I couldn't help myself.

Audio Damage's Seq1 controls the Pitch, Overtone, Multiply and the Decay time of the Contour, triggers the Contour Generator and clocks the tempo input. Slope running at audio rate is patched to the linear FM input. The Random out controls the Slope Time and transposes Seq1.

The output of 0-Coast is connected to an Echophon. The LP-1 X-Y controller triggers Freeze and controls Echo Time and Pitch Depth on the Echophon."

Patching@3am: Hard Sync with DUSG? Kinda...

video upload by justin3am

"The first video in what I hope will be a series.

3am - u-he's CVilization - Matrix Mixer Sequencer Aid

justin3am

"This is my first demo for u-he's CVilization module. Using CVz's Matrix Mixer to process Sequences and modulation, it takes the place of a whole rack's worth of modules. Precision adding, Sample and Hold, Quantization... and that's just one application of Mode 1."

kp3 and friends

YouTube Uploaded by justin3am on Jul 30, 2011

"Another feeble attempt at showing how a Kaoss Pad can be used as an awesome control surface for a modular synth. I'm horrible at talking while I'm syntherbating so most of my words are just rambling. Sorry.

The details... The MIDI from my KP3 is controlling Expert Sleepers' Silent Way DC plug-in hosted in Numerology. The CV is sent out of my MOTU interface via ADAT to ES-3 CV interface.

The signals generated by Silent Way are used to control the Make Noise Phonogene granular sampler. Audio from Phonogene goes into the Korgasmatron filter and then the zDSP.

The additional synth parts are all coming from the modular. Again I'm using Numerology and Silent Way to generate the sequences. The drums are from my Octatrack, all sounds sampled from the modular."

I'm starting to get the hang of recording songs this way. Camera angle provides a pretty good shot of my ass. I'll figure out a good angle, eventually."

VCFQ demo

Published on Aug 6, 2016 justin3am

"A run through of the excellent Serge/Random*Source Variable Q VCF.

This is my first attempt to demonstrate a eurorack module with voice over. Not perfect but I think it gets the point across. Not really digging the fish-eye look... oh well."
