What is the Pet Rock? (Eurorack temporal rhythm generator module)

video upload by Musical Miscellany

"I recently purchased a Pet Rock. Not the traditional pet rock from the 1970s, but a Eurorack module that creates rhythms based on the phases of the moon. It's a really cool concept created by Jonah Senzel and released at Knobcon 2023.

Intro & Theory - 0:00
Logistics - 1:47
Basic Rhythms & Clock Variances - 2:55
Adding Pitch Sequences - 5:25
Adding Delay - 5:57

You can purchase one here: https://synthcube.com/cart/petrock"

Pet Rock made its first appearance on the site here.

"Pet Rock is a rogue-like rhythm generator which changes daily, with monthly modulations in style.

This 4hp Eurorack module generates a new rhythm every night at midnight that you have 24 hours to use. Pet Rock is like rhythm Wordle - everyone who owns the module gets the exact same rhythm. No internet connected needed.

Pet Rock has 2 independently clockable (gate in, gate out) 'A' and 'B' rhythms each day, so there's flexibility in how you use it/clock it. The ‘A’ and ‘B’ rhythms can be used together as one composite rhythm, split into two separate rhythms, etc.

Rhythm generation parameters change according to the real current moon phase. The overall "Mood" changes with every 30 day moon cycle to help keep things fresh. With each “Mood” change, Pet Rock switches between several custom algorithms to produce distinct styles.

IMPORTANT FINE PRINT:

Pre-orders are non-cancellable; please do not pre-order unless you are certain you want one.

synthCube is supporting Jonah’s manifesto and principle about the economics of the module as a ‘break-even’ proposition."

Introducing Pet Rock (the rogue-like moon based Eurorack Module)

video upload by Jonah Senzel

"more info at my website: petrock.site

(oops moon cycles are 29.5 days, not 31 I tried editing it into the voice over and it sounded really weird so here's your only chance to learn this vital information)"

7/10/23 (alternate take) DIY Ray Wilson / MFOS synthesizer + Zerosum Inertia 6AS6 + Metasonix R-57

video upload by

"This video contains more filter sweeps than the video previously posted on 7/10/23, and the MFOS filter cutoff settings cause the Zerosum Inertia 6AS6 Signal Combiner to generate different rhythms than in the previous video. Two MFOS LFOs (at audio rate) go to Zerosum Inertia 6AS6, get combined, go to the MFOS filter, and go one channel on the R-57."

Seeds2 DEMO by Kassen

video upload by Jw Hagenbeek

"The Seeds2 explained to Erik by Kassen (the programmer of the firmware)
#eurorack #ginkosynthese #modular #modularsynth #arp2600"

DIY Kits will be available via SynthCube.

This is the first small batch of assembled SEEDS2! The SEEDS2 is not officially released yet.

The assembling of this first batch is done to create a building manual and tells me what to move around on the PCB to make assembling asier. This means that these first modules will be available far before the real release and you will be the first to have this module in your rack!

The SEEDS2 is a powerfull 8 bit synth voice that gives you a lot of different sounds in a small package!

The sounds range from razor sharp FM basslines to commodore style bleebs and from soft flutes to nasty noises.

More detailed video's and a manual will be available when the module is officially released.

The SEEDS2 is a highly upgraded version of the SEEDS.
There are many new new sounds.
The interface has more knobs to control your sounds and all have their own CV input.
The MOD control is upgraded with a cv attenuator.
The filter section is upgraded and has its own modulation input.
The output stage has been redesigned and has a smoother sound.

New England Synth Fest - Bill T Miller Synthesizer Performance @ Museum of Science Boston - 08.11.22

video upload by Bill T Miller

"Bill T Miller Synthesizer Performance @ New England Synth Fest @ Museum of Science Boston - 08.11.22. This BTM stereophonic improv performance features a CLASSIC SYNTH array... Buchla Easel Command 208-C, Korg ARP 2600, Moog Mother-32, Make Noise O-Coast and 4MS STS Sampler & Toppobrillo MiniMix.

Video Produced/Directed/Edited by Bill T Miller
Cameras: BTM & Sheri Hausey & Beth Moguel

BILL T MILLER, a chameleon of sonic exploration, is a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, recording engineer, producer, filmmaker, photographer, artist, instrument builder and cat lover. From toy piano at two years old to starting a "band" with tennis racket guitar and trash can drums in the 60s to becoming a professional recording engineer / producer / live sound tech after graduating from College for the Recording Arts in San Francisco in 1976, his paths are always unfolding and looping. At recording college he took synthesizer courses with ARP 2600 and Emu synths and then worked (as live sound and recording engineer) in California until 1980.

Eventually ending up in Boston working as a freelance recording engineer and live sound engineer and then starting his own Headroom Recording Studios. While much of his "professional career" was devoted to recording and photographing OTHER artists, he was always working on his own weirdo music bands in the shadows. Some of these adventures include Out of Band Experience (OBE), Kings Of Feedback, Drum Army, Kings Of Slack, Zonkulator, and Orgy Of Noise with over 25 full album releases on his own DIY labels as an artist.

BTM's quest has looped back around to a nostalgic look forward incorporating ALL of the past adventures while moving sideways in time in to an unknown future think void. Living in Boston for 37 years and giving every moment to this insatiable desire to CREATE and SHARE is focus of his true path.
