New 2010 Vako Orchestron Disc - SOLO FEMALE VOICE

YouTube via optigandotcom | September 13, 2010

"Now available at http://www.optigan.com/shoptigan

Now available! A new release in our line of Vako Orchestron discs, SOLO FEMALE VOICE. It's unlikely that there will be sufficient demand to do a second run of 30 of these discs, so your best bet is to buy as many of these as you need while you can! Any future additional copies will most likely be done as one-offs, which are twice as expensive to produce, and thus will cost twice as much.

SOLO FEMALE VOICE is an entirely NEW sound for the Orchestron. Tara Busch of analogsuicide.com lent us her vocal cords once again for a sound similar to, but not exactly the same as the vocal sound on our Optigan "Minimalism" disc. This sound features a consistent "ahh" over the entire range. Please excuse my awful playing here, which is just a quick noodle to demonstrate the sound!

PLEASE NOTE: This disc WILL NOT play properly in an Optigan! They WILL play, but the sounds will NOT be mapped correctly to the keyboard- they will be mapped mostly haphazardly across the chord buttons. Please don't order this disc expecting to easily use it in an Optigan. In the future we will be porting the Orchestron sounds to the Optigan- please be patient! :)

Stay tuned for more Orchestron discs, both new and remastered titles!"

New 2010 Remastered Vako Orchestron Disc - ORGAN

optigandotcom | September 13, 2010

"Now available at http://www.optigan.com/shoptigan

Now available for pre-order! A new release in our line of remastered Vako Orchestron discs, ORGAN. It's unlikely that there will be sufficient demand to do a second run of 25 of these discs, so your best bet is to buy as many of these as you need while you can! Any future additional copies will most likely be done as one-offs, which are twice as expensive to produce, and thus will cost twice as much.

ORGAN is remastered from the original Orchestron master tapes. Our version is quite a bit brighter than the original.

Steckmatrix "Studio Synthesizer" Modular Format Analog Synthesizer

via this auction

Googlish translation (note some modules are faulty):
"The construction with the Ghielmetti matrix is similar to the EMS Synthi A / Vostok

The "Studio Synthesizer" (his name in the documents) was built in the early 1980s for a music institute. His then the price was a good 5-digit range. It was built based on the format module system, which were, according to the designer and builder of some of the modules nor modified. This is now due to space and light overhaul of need (and lack of detailed electronic and time budget) as possible to a collector, analog synth lovers and / or music-electronics hobbyist sale. (... Ok to the highest bidder ...)

It consists of three modules ("Keyboard / Matrix", "Links: VCOs / LFOs, Right: VCF / ADSRs" and a solid metal frame with castors.

He is very elegant in the different parts and dismantled the frame, the modules and the frame are visible to Langen "handle" screws (left of the big picture) is connected.

Also inside the synthesizer is very loving, clean and professionally built.

The (most likely) complete the design, modification and construction documents are supplied in a DIN A4 Ordener. For example, there are even invoices, data sheets used chips, many clean-hands design drawings and even films for the exposure time while platinum production.

Rare Moog Musonics Minimoog Model D

via this auction

"If you don't know about the Musonics version, they were a very early version of the Minimoog, built after RA moog but still before the more common Moog Music. The musonics version is considered the best sounding version of the Minimoog ever made, with very raw analog sound, and I believe there are less than 100 in existence. In addition, there is a rare cv input board installed by CAE Sound (in San Mateo) giving you CV input (you can see the jack near the serial number on the back of the synth)."

This one had a BIN of US $8,299.00 but did not sell.

Emu Modular for Sale

via Joe McGinty

"I am selling a gigantic Emu modular that belonged to Mark Lindsay (Paul Revere and The Raiders). After leaving the Raiders, Lindsay worked on television and movie soundtracks and commercials. This modular was used most notably for the Shogun Assassin soundtrack. There are over 70 modules in this system, including 11 VCOs, 8 Filters, and 8 Envelope Generators. There is a full list of modules below.

It has been in storage for 30+ years, and is in good to excellent cosmetic condition. There are no cables included, so at the moment it is not tested. NYC modular synth expert Steve Masucci will be testing the modules, and will have more information by Monday. You can find more details about Emu Modulars here.

Pictures are here: Emu Modular Pics [archived in this post]

We are not interested in breaking this apart, and are only selling the entire unit, 4 cabinets + keyboard.
This instrument is a museum piece, and an important part of analog synthesizer history. Please send serious offers only. If we don't get any reasonable offers it will go on eBay. We are not interested in any trades.

Item is in Piermont, NY, about 40 minutes outside of NYC and is available for local pickup only.

Please respond to joemcginty7 at gmail.com

Thanks,
Joe"

iOS 4.2 Supports CoreMIDI

via Appleinsider

"Support for CoreMIDI

The first beta of iOS 4.2 adds support for the CoreMIDI framework to the operating system's application program interfaces. This could suggest that future applications would allow new avenues for musical creation, and could also allow physical MIDI instruments connectors.

MIDI, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface, is an industry standard that allows electronic music machines to synchronize and communicate. With an adapter, a device like an iPhone could theoretically create and record sounds from a MIDI instrument."

MIDI for everyone! :) Why is this important? Currently MIDI devices like the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer and Akai SynthStation25 require developers to use their proprietary SDKs to talk to their devices. This translates to more work for developers if they want to support different devices. Not just for the initial release of their apps but anytime there is an update to the SDK. With CoreMIDI they can just focus on it and let hardware manufacturers decide to support it or not. I'm also guessing KORG would be more likely to support CoreMIDI on the iElectribe vs. another company's SDK. We are getting very close to syncing iPads and iPhones with other gear folks. BTW, don't miss this post on The Missing Link.
