"Architecture and features
Oscillators and Sound Generators

Each of the 12 voices has 2 Oscillators. Each Oscillator has sawtooth, triangle and square/pulse waves, mixable in variable proportions.

In Oscillator 1, each waveform can be modified: saw's "spread" parameter adds a second detuned sawtooth, triangle "wrap" progressively clips the waveform adding inharmonic content, and pulse wave has variable pulse width; PWM is also available, and the modulation source can be chosen from LFO1, LFO2 or OSC ENV. Oscillator 2 can frequency-modulate (FM) Oscillator 1.

In Oscillator 2, saw and triangle waveforms cannot be modified/ modulated: only the pulse wave can be varied; PWM is also available. Unlike OSC1, the second oscillator provides fine detune and coarse detune +-24 steps, and keyboard tracking may be disengaged. Oscillator 2 can be synced to Oscillator 1.

An Oscillator Common section is provided to balance the mix of OSC1 and OSC2, the ring modulator and the noise generator.

Multimode Dual Filter

The OB•12 has two VCF, each one being a 12db (2 pole) filter.
For each filter, mode can be chosen between high-pass, low pass, band-pass and off.
Filters routing can be parallel, split or serial, the latter resulting in a 24db (4 pole) filter.
Cutoff, resonance, modulators and keyboard tracking affect both VCFs.

The Delta parameter, available in parallel and split mode, change the cutoff frequency of the second filter; by using bandpass mode for both filters and by widening their cutoff frequencies, two formants peak may be formed, creating vocal-like timbres.

Besides the OB•12, 1983's OSC OSCar synthesizer is the only synth having this facility; in the OSCar this function is called "separation" and has a dedicated knob in the filter section, unlike the OB•12, whose Delta parameter is inside filter's edit menu.

Theseus - Digital Modular System by Bendan Byrne

More information on the Theseus Digital Modular System can be found at...

"Theseus is a platform for designing modular electronics instruments for musical and visual composition. Building on the Eurorack analog synthesizer standard, the platform uses ⅛” patch cables to interconnect modules. However, unlike the Eurorack standard, Theseus is entirely digital and produces MIDI/OSC control messages rather than audio signals. This simplification in fidelity greatly reduces the cost of materials and complexity of electronic circuits, making patch cable compositional systems more accessible to artists and musicians. A collection of 14 modules was designed to demonstrate the potential of such a platform. These modules highlight what designs become possible when material expenses drop and prototyping time is shortened."

Playlist:

1. Maht Dvdr - Unlike the other modules that produce simple sequences or steady patterns, Maht Dvdr possesses the ability to create elaborate and evolving compositions through an automated routing system.

The module is driven by a master clock. With each trigger signal it receives an onboard software counter increases by one. At the same time sixteen frequencies, each a division of the current counter value, run in the background. These channels are accessed and routed to each output using three inputs. The first input receives a voltage that determines which of the ten output positions to select. The second input determines what divided frequency to assign to that output. Lastly, a latch input locks the selected divided frequency to the selected output channel.

2. Mandalatron - The Mandalatron is a four channel ten step sequencer. Each channel possesses the same values set by the ten central rotary controllers, but with isolated clocks and sequence lengths. When the clock input of a channel is triggered, the sequence will advance by one step and reset to the first step at the point designated by the sequence length controller. This arrangement and iteration of channels allows for complex rhythms to be created easily. It was designed with pitch output in mind, but these voltages can be used to modulate other variables such as note length and velocity to great effect.

Graphic design was roughly inspired by mandala patterns to highlight the overlapping and symmetrical effects of the module’s functionality.

Suitcase modular fun

Published on Jun 2, 2015 ISOTROPOSPHERE

"This is the lower half of my first suitcase eurorack build, the upper half (not seen) contains the Technosaurus small wonders series synths. My second suitcase modular is used here supporting the first case but is not shown. It is the yellow Pelican cased modular shown in other videos of mine. I did some moving around of some modules in all of my modular cabinets and decided to have a little fun.

Used here are: Din Sync Drum Dokta 2 and a square wave output from the Drum Dokta Breakout module from the Dokta number one. This square wave is passing through a delptronics ring modular and finally through a early kit version of the Synthrotek Eko before going to the submix by Low Gain electronics (Best mixer in eurorack).
Delptronics little drummer boy is getting it's wood block and closed hi-hat triggered by a spock and output to the submix.
The Rebel Stoichia is sending a trigger to a Doepfer ADSR and VCA combo to gate the DDB square wave before it goes to the ringmod.
Make Noise phonogene is being lightly scrolled through by a cv from a Tame knob controller. The scrolling through of a section of a vocal sample looped to a very short section of the sample at high speed and the pitch is also very high make it sound like a vocal formant.
The Radio Music module is providing a section of a recording of strange sounds from the 1950's, this is the creepy low noise grumble in the video.
Synthrotek Nand module is passing through a Blue Lantern Diode filter in LPF mode and is the drone I sweep through the filter on at one point in the video.
Flame tame machine is providing the multed clock source to all modules which need it here. Beginning of the video shows me turning off the 4 bar loop of the clock and setting a new one.
Turning machine and expanders (orange version) are doing some clock division duties for the Spock inputs here.

Had some fun with the built in effects on the camera in the video while rockin' out, hope you like it. Small reverb effect on the whole mix at the main Alesis mixer (12fxd) for my studio.

Headphones recommended, comments, suggestions welcome.

ENJOY!!!"

"My first play with the Analog Keys ( and lots of other things) which I swapped my DSI Pro2 for when it developed a fault. The Pro2 was very nice but had some rather basic sequencer omissions that I could not get on with. The Analog keys has a more polished performance sequencer if you are prepared to read the manual enough times... Also features my new Boomstar 4075. ( big intro notes). All sequenced using the AK as master clock in an improvised composition recorded in a stereo mix from my old Mackie lm3204 to Cubase and then added thee overdubs. Rendering to video seems to have added more audible noise...
