Improvisation LXVII: DSI Poly Evolver Keyboard

Published on Jun 29, 2016 Sacred Synthesis

"This piece belongs to a previous batch of improvisations. I stumbled across it the other day and thought it might be worth posting after all. Every single note in this music is Evolver, and it shows how well two PEKs work together. The instrument has such a vast sonic range that there need not be any redundancy.

The piece offers a few aural glimpses at the Poly Evolver's digital aliasing. Personally, I try to avoid it as best I can, but most of the Evolver's digital wave shapes are either lightly or heavily coated with it. Nevertheless, once in a while it has a very pretty - if strange - effect on a musical moment, like a soft mysterious hush in the background.

Instrumentation:
DSI Poly Evolver Keyboard (2)
DSI Poly Evolver Rack
DSI Evolver Desktop
Hammond XPK 200L

Effects:
Reverb from Lexicon MX300

Performed live and recorded directly to CD

Tiptop Audio RS909 - TR-909 Rim Shot Eurorack Module Nearing Completion

via @AnalogueZone

"@tiptopaudio TR-series is getting close to completion!"

http://analoguezone.com/Tiptop-Audio/tiptop-audio-rs909

"The Tiptop Audio - RS909 is the TR-909 Rimshot analog generator in a Eurorack format; adding yet another low-cost analog drum generator from a legendary drum machine to your modular synthesizer, and expanding your Tiptop Audio modular drum machine even further.

We use an exact reproduction of the original analog circuit for the RS909. Its sound is generated by a clever set of three T-bridge oscillators, each producing a damped sine wave at a different frequency. The mix of those oscillators goes through a VCA whose gain is controlled by an envelope generator providing the well known attack feel of the sound.

In the RS909 we bring out to the front panel frequency control knobs for the the two internal oscillators, OSC1 and OSC2, for adjustment of their pitch, further extending the sounds this circuit is capable of and allowing fine adjustment to the classic sound.

The RS909 includes a high-powered output gain stage capable of producing hot signals. On the inputs, we have designed a pulse-shaper circuit so you can trigger the RS909 with trigger/gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. This eliminates the need to shape pulses sent to the module and ensures the same stable sound at peak power, regardless of your pulse source. Based on the architecture of the 909, the Accent input is versatile and able to take in both CV and Gate signals for continuously changing dynamics. All of these unique features make integrating this legendary sound generator into your modular synth easy, unleashing the power of real analog drums."
