Superbooth 2023: Arturia - Microfreak Stellar - Firmware 5.0

"Edouard from Arturia unveiled the new firmware update for MicroFreak boasting a range of new features such as envelope snap mode, random key tracking, and 64 new presets for free. The firmware update also extends the preset memory from 300 to 500. The biggest surprise is the new sample engine, which allows users to use built-in samples and import their own samples into the machine through the utility. The sample engine has four modes, and the first mode enables users to browse through with the start position, play the sample in reverse and loop it, and two new granular engines further expand the Freaks capabilities.

Arturia has also released MicroFreak Stellar, which is a limited edition with new iconography and is designed to encourage sound exploration in a playful way.

Superbooth 2023: Korg - Microkorg Crystal

"We spoke to Malte from Korg at Superbooth 2023 about their new product, the Microkorg Crystal, which is an anniversary edition of the Microkorg to celebrate its 20th birthday. The Microkorg Crystal is essentially the same as the original, but comes in a beautiful new transparent case with aluminum side panels. It will be released in summer and is a limited edition, although the exact number of units available is unknown.

Superbooth 2023: AtoVproject - cDVCA - Gaeto

"We spoke to Marios from AtoVproject at Superbooth 2023, where they showcased their latest Euro rack module, cDVCA. This 6 HP module features a square wave oscillator inside the VCA which tracks volts per octave, and a low pass filter to tame the signal. The drive knob allows for control over the amount of distortion from the internal oscillator or the original signal, resulting in a full voice with the oscillator, filter, and VCA all in one module.

Marios also demonstrated the Gaeto, a clock divider and sequencer available for 80 Euros. The Gaeto has two channels and a knob for determining whether it divides to two or three, allowing for clock divisions, flip flop gate triggers, and quantization of finger beats. The Gaeto also has a pulse output related to the input signal and is available for purchase now. AtoVproject teased a new oscillator in development, with more information to come in their newsletter.

Superbooth 2023: Clank - Chaos - Proteo

"We spoke to Emanuele from Clank, who presented their new modules at Superbooth 2023. Their first module, Chaos, is a six-channel random module that starts as a Turing machine, but ends as a sequencer. Each channel has a voltage range from zero to eight volts that can be adjusted, and you can choose from non-quantized to quantized notes on various scales. Clank has also released a movement recorder based on proximity sensors that records your hand movements, outputting CV. Another new product from Clank is Proteo, a stereo evolving waveform oscillator that starts from sine waves and allows you to add external CVs and draw your waveform in the time domain.

Superbooth 2023: Morphor - Ensemble

"We spoke to Eli from Morphor at Superbooth 2023 about their new chorus module, Ensemble. The module has eight fully analog delay lines and offers standard chorus settings with slow and fast LFOs, spread controls and the ability to select voices. Morphor is proud of the module's eight BBD lines and have placed the BBDs on the back for easy viewing.

The inspiration for the module came from the Ensemble effect in software, which was not available in modular form, leading to Morphor's research into choruses and the creation of an eight-voice chorus.

Superbooth 2023: Knobula - Pianophonic

"We spoke to Jason from Knobula at Superbooth 2023, who showed us their new 8-voice polyphonic wavetable and sample playback synthesizer Pianophonic. Based on the concept of a piano with three strings and a hammer, the synthesizer offers piano-esque and other extended piano sounds. The piano sound is wavetable-based with 16 different slots and multi-sampled wavetables across the keyboard, from high sounds to low sounds, and 256 waves in each wavetable that you can morphed through. Pianophonic also features three oscillators, where two can be assigned to a different sound, and chord memory. It has MIDI, CV, and gate control options, making it versatile and suitable for various applications.
