Moog BFAM (Brother From Another Mother) analog synthesizer and sequencer

via this auction

via the seller: "I'm selling my BFAM (Brother From Another Mother) analog synthesizer and sequencer. I built it in May of 2016 at the Moogfest Engineering workshop in Durham, NC. According to the Moog engineers, it was an early prototype for the Mother 32 synthesizer and will not be available commercially.

Ebay won't let me link directly to Modulargrid, but if you search that site for BFAM, there is additional information about the synthesizer, including videos,

Single VCO, with saw & pulse wave forms
Noise
Mixer
ADSR envelope
Pulse Width
VCF with cutoff and resonance and VCF EG Amount control
8-stage analog step sequencer, with control over glide, gate length & clock rate and per-step gate control - sequencer can be routed to pitch, filter cutoff, or another destination via patch point
16 x 3.55mm patch points on front panel
1 6.55mm output in back (when using provided case)

NOTE - this was built from a kit during the workshop, so know what you are buying - this is not a Mother 32. The synthesizer and sequencer work great, but it was not built in a factory. It was calibrated and checked by Moog engineers during the workshop."

Pre-Sale Engineer VIP Passes are available for a limited time, while supplies last. For more information, go to the Moogfest Engineer VIP Workshop page."

Last year we had the BFAM or Brother From Another Mother. Curious what we'll see this year.

stg/soundlabs The Boat Rocker - Drop-in eurorack PSU for 60HP Moog Boats

This one is in via Suit & Tie Guy of stg/soundlabs:

"Just wanted to let everyone know that my power supply for empty Moog Mother-32 boats is finally available. I'm sorry that it took so long, but it's been worth the wait IMHO.

Basically, it's a 1 amp per rail (+12, -12, +5) eurorack PSU for 60HP Moog boats that came with Mother-32/ DFAM/ BFAM/ Subharmonicon/ Spectravox units. Many of you have taken these fantastic synthesisers and put them into larger setups, and have an empty case kicking around and here's a nice turnkey solution for making those empty cases into something useful.

Something really cool about this supply is that it's split into two independently-regulated groups, so if you have modules that generate crosstalk across shared power rails you can further isolate them even in such a tiny case!

Also a little .VCO update, for those of you waiting on that: the production prototypes are shipping to me this week and if they check out I should be able to put them into production immediately. I already have the front panels here so I'll just be waiting on the electronics. For those of you who don't have to deal with the differences in those delays that means weeks instead of months.

Currently it's only for specifically the boats that shipped with Moog's very excellent synthesisers in the format, but eventually I will be able to offer it in packages for the empty boats they sell, Behringer boats of all types, and generic DIY case situations. However for now it is only for the Moog boats that have the holes in the back for power and 1/4" connectors. If you are super excited for these for the generic application please drop me a line, I can support that now but I'm trying to roll this out slow so that I can keep up.

Anyway, here's the product page on my webzone if you want to order one. They are $199 USD. I can't figure out how to update international shipping on Paypal's site so you'll still be paying 2016 pricing for that"

via @moogmusicinc

"There's still tix avail for the 2017 Moog Engineering workshop at @moogfest. Building a percussion synth this year!"

Update: And it will be called the DFAM - Drummer from Another Mother, akin to last year's BFAM - Brother from Another Mother.

via @moogmusicinc:

"In case you were 🤔, this year's Moog VIP Engineering Workshop will build the DFAM...

Moog's New BFAM - Brother From Another Mother - Synthesizer with Step Sequencer

via @hami

Another surprise from Moogfest. The knobs reveal it all. Single oscillator, noise, mix knob for the two, filter, Envelop, sequencer glide, gate length, clock rate, run/stop button, step knobs and step gate on/off switches.

Note the "Moogfest 2016 Engineering Workshop" on it. This is the one off synth for the event originally mentioned here.

New Moog DIY Project Coming to This Year's MOOGFEST 2018 ENGINEER WORKSHOP

Update: And it will be the Sub-Harmonicon.

Previous years brought us the BFAM and DFAM. What will this year bring?

via Moog Music:

"Work alongside Moog engineers to build and take home your own unique electronic instrument, currently unreleased and designed especially for the 2018 Moogfest Engineer Workshop.

Over the coming weeks, we will reveal the details of our Moogfest Engineer Workshop, including info on this year’s build. The workshops will fill up quickly once the build specs are made public, so reserve your Engineer Pass this week to guarantee your spot.

The Engineer Pass is a special Moogfest ticket that includes an exclusive synth-building workshop and VIP access to this year’s festival in Durham, NC. The workshop is led by Moog engineers, who guide participants as they learn the foundations of analog synthesis and build their own unreleased Moog instrument. No experience is necessary, but basic soldering knowledge is recommended. Space is limited. Click here to reserve your spot at the Moogfest 2018 Engineer Workshop."

Building a Subharmonicon: What it's like to attend a Moog Engineering Workshop

Published on May 25, 2018 loopop

"If you were ever curious about what it's like to attend Moog's Engineering Workshop at Moogfest - join me as I walk you through the process of building the Moog Subharmonicon, including some pretty nasty mistakes I admit to making along the way. Luckily Moog's engineers are patient and helpful, and used to dealing with such things...

Moogfest is a synth fan's dream come true, with live shows, music making workshops and plenty of synths on hand. A small subset of Moogfest is the "VIP Engineering Workshop" - where, for a hefty price ($1,500+fees) you get to build a new, unreleased synth, with guidance by top Moog engineers.

Some of the synths in previous years ended up being released (Werkstatt, DFAM) and some did not (BFAM). When I read the description of this years' workshop synth - the Subharmonicon, the idea sounded so special, I decided not to take the chance that it won't be released, and to document the process along the way.

I had very little previous soldering experience, but decided to go for it anyway. The kit you get in the workshop requires soldering 81 components with 340 joints, not to mention dozens of nuts, washers and screws.

The workshop spans over two sessions of four hours each, across two days of Moogfest, and is a very memorable and positive experience.

The soundtrack for this mini-documentary was made entirely using the Subharmonicon, with some assistance from Valhalla Shimmer and Touche by Expressive E."
