Percussa Polyphonic Granular Processor Demo

Published on Sep 2, 2017 PERCUSSA

"learn more about the percussa SSP eurorack modulate kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

In this video demo we use 4 granular processors, 4 envelope generators (ADSRs) and 2 LFOs (modulating granular selection window start/length).

We play the granular processors using a MIDI keyboard. The MIDI notes are automatically assigned to these "four voices". Each granular processor is modulated by its own ADSR envelope.

In the video I play with grain duration, grain frequency, selection window start and length. The granular processor uses a triangle window in this demo.

As you will notice you get interesting effects when each of the voices is using the same sample material but uses slightly different settings. The pitch, start position and length of the grains is randomized as well.

The sample used in the video is soundeffect_longtouch.mp3 by appdoc on freesound.org. Credit in the video."

Synth Diy Guy Featured Builder: Vinicius Brazil!

"A visit and a chat with my partner and teacher Vinicius Brazil of VBrazil Modular.

Here´s a translation of our conversation:

" SYNTH DIY GUY - Featured Builder - Vinicius Brazil
Q - Hi Vinicius! V - Hi
Q - All good? V - All great!
Q - Tell us a little bit about your path, how you got started with electronics and music.
V - I arrived at electronics thanks to music. When I was a kid, 15 years old, I got my first guitar, and in Brazil it was very expensive to acquire guitar pedals. So I started to take some of my friends’ pedals and study their insides, this was in the 60 ́s, and from there I started making my own pedals. Copying at first, then creating muy own solutions. This got me excited and I went on to study Electronics and graduate college as an Electronic Engineer.
Q- Cool, and what kinds of pedals did you make at first?
V - All were guitar pedals. I started of course with fuzz and distortion, then on to more sophisticated things like flangers, phasers and delays. This was during the 70 ́s. In the end of the 70 ́s synthesizers started attracting me. That ́s when I built my first semi modular synth in 1978/79.
Q - Do you still have that synth?

TASCAM is providing DP-006 Digital Pocketstudios for Knobconners to record 4 track demos at the show!

Manufacturer-specific rigs will be set up in the Demo Derby room, and since the Pocketstudios are battery powered, you can actually take them from station-to-station and multi-track record a demo using all the various instruments. After you record your tracks, take the Pocketstudio to our mixing station. TASCAM Demo Derby mix engineer (and Youtube talkbox king) Moot Booxle will gladly help you finish your demo with a Track Factory turnkey PC DAW.

If you make a demo and allow us to make it available for download, you'll be entered into a very exclusive drawing to win one of several TASCAM recorders.

Don't be shy. Make a demo, be a winner!

"These were extremely powerful, popular - and limited - polyphonic wavetable kit synthesizers from a few years ago - very much the company's pinnacle before committing to only Eurorack format. They've been out of production for several years now and aren't easy to find. This unit also has the desirable SMR4 'Juno type' filter set, which were the warmest out of all the filter options for these kits...

How to repair faders on a vintage synthesizer

Published on Sep 1, 2017 Mike Sisk

"In this video I show how to repair faders (or slide potentiometers) that are used on many vintage analog synthesizers. The faders I am repairing are from a Roland SH-1 synthesizer but this same process will work on other types of faders from other manufactures as well. To do properly do this the faders must be individually desoldered from the board and opened up to clean the internal contacts. I do not recommend using the standard "contact cleaner" that you find at most hardware stores but instead recommend using the more expensive Deoxit cleaner from Ciag. I paid about $24 for a 2oz can of this cleaner which seems high but when working on an old vintage synth it totally turned to be worth every penny."

Behrigner Model D Experimental Jam

Published on Sep 2, 2017 synthpro

"Hey Guys,

This is a a mixture of experimentation with the Behringer D as well as a jam session. In this example, I am using a MIDI sequencer from my Korg Radias while transposing the Behringer Model D from my polymoog using the 1V/Oct input on the Model D.

This jam was inspired by some music I heard from Kosmischer Laufer. You can find out more here: https://kosmischerlaufer.bandcamp.com...

Also, for those interested,
I have a new website.
