Matrixbrute: Analog Stereo Delay & Harmonic Series LFO Waveshaping

Published on Aug 4, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Try with headphones/read below for more details RE the patch. This one took quite a while to make. Despite the actual matrix itself looking like not much has been altered, what has been altered has been altered specifically i.e. to exact numeric values.

Delay should be obvious to the ear. When I'm off to the far right, this is me playing with the delay settings. I'm not actually doing too much with the delay, just playing with the depth.

LFO 1 is sitting on a square wave - hence you'll hear the jumps in pitch. Of course, sine etc would create the distinct 'sweep' - but I was looking for something different, and with pitch specificity rather than range sweeping.

LFO 2 is altering between triangle and sine waves. When on sine, the harmonic series can be heard. I programmed the series to run between the major 3rd (i.e. E if on C), and the upper 9th (i.e. D on C).

Playing with the phase of LFO 1 determines the harmonic content. I'm beginning with a hard phase inversion. At about 0:17 the low octave can be heard entering. At about 0:40 the perfect 5th enters. At about 1:37 I'm changing LFO 2 waveform to sine - at which point the entire harmonic series can be heard.

In terms of tuning, VCO 2 has a focus on the sub-osc - plus the LFO is pre-programmed to drop it the octave - hence it sounds far deeper.

VCO 3 is set to the major 3rd (i.e. E on C).

I'm doing almost nothing on the keys aside from changing the octave of C. Function here is to illustrate the programming rather than focusing on playing.

PS I'm sure most MB owners already know this, but holding in PANEL and pushing the PRESET button initialises the preset, then you can build from scratch.

All best
Kris"

Novation Circuit - Playing with Wavetables and External Effects

Published on Aug 4, 2018 100 Things I Do

"A simple pattern of notes and effects. This one is more an experiment than anything else. I wanted to use some very etherial effects chains then slowly add them over time! I have been playing with the Wavetable engine in the Circuit and you can get some very interesting sounds. There is no 'wave run' like in the PPG or Blofeld but the interpolation on the waves is very nice and feature most wavetable synths miss."

"I ran across this video while going through an old computer. It's from May 2009, and shows my KS-01 in its early prime. It shows off the Triple Wilson SVVCF module, and, of course the Klee. I suppose I never uploaded it because it pretty much has one set sequence. Enjoy. Or not."

"I ran across the video for this, but it still had the mic audio. I found the wav file recorded on my Korg D8 and synced it up for better audio, but the video reeeealllly suffered (my original video SW has gone away). Anyway, I kind of like this piece, so I thought I would post it. Klee and Appendage and my home brew modular all going at it..."

Arturia DrumBrute Impact with Vca Compressor Magnetismus 2-Tegeler Audio Manufaktur

Published on Aug 4, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Guys!!!
I took a new drum machine ARTURIA -Drumbrute Impact for the workshop with VCA compressor Tegeler Audio Manufaktur -Magnetismus 2. it's obvious that everyone is working in the studio and compression will be a must for the drums process. I thought it was worth showing how Magnetismus 2 works in several mods on the Drumbrute Impact in a simple loop from the analog drum machine. Intensity knob in Magnetismus 2 gives a powerful effect on transients, emulating the effect of an analog tape which, of course, saturates and stains our drums in a nice and powerful way, giving better separation in the further mix process.
Of course, Magnetismus 2 check also works great on other musical parts.
Soon new movies with more compressors and synths.
Thanks for watching!!!!"

Ambient Work; 4th Aug 2018

Published on Aug 4, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Patch I've been working on for a while. Which, for a change, I saved, rather than binning. Nice sound. I also put this work over on SoundCloud. [embed below]

I titled the work 'Cult is the Root of all Culture'.

'Culture' seems to be the cult that the majority agree on. Which is interesting.

We have strange habits, us humans. Imagine going a walk and seeing 50 dogs in a field watching another dog bark. Imagine other dogs writing books about the barking dogs, whilst others again read said books and consider opinions RE the barking dogs to be of utmost importance. Dogs, whilst visiting each other, bark to their friends on the subject of particular barking dogs, their preferences used as an indicator of their own unique personality/status.

This is all taken very seriously, and not to be questioned.

Best
Kris"

A DIY Clock Divider Groove

A DIY Clock Divider Groove from Izhar Ashdot on Vimeo.

"You can program drums without a sequencer or drum machine!

A Clock Divider is a module that creates various divisions of the basic clock which is the beating heart of a modular synth system.

My DIY Clock Divider is made from two cute little chips: The CD4040 which divides an incoming clock by 2,4,8,16,32,64,128 etc. and the CD4022 which counts up to 8 and can be reseted after counting any number of steps, thus creating interesting divisions of 3,5,6,7.

Each division is sent to a different drum module, altogether making a cool automatic groove."

"An amazingly rare 4 part synth with Monosynth, Polysynth, Stringand Organ sections that can all be layered together. Keyboard also featuresafter-touch on the Monosynth section.

Bigger brother to the SK20 and only outranked by the huge SK50D.The SK30 is no lightweight it packs a wonderfully unique sound (especially withthe 'ensemble' feature switched in). It weighs in around 23Kg so is mostdefinitely not one to be posted (collection only please).

Its in very good condition both cosmetically and electrically.Everything works and there are no nasty crackles or pops during operation. Someof the selector buttons need a firm push, but they all work as intended."

Many many thanks to my amazing hosts at KSER Lars & Maire for their hospitality. Absolutely loved the vibe of this independent radio station, and their support for the experimental synth community! KSER.org"

034//Limbo - Eventide Space ambient sound destruction (with Eurorack)

Published on Aug 4, 2018 Alastair Wilson

"A self-generating patch using a small Eurorack setup sent through an Eventide Space reverb and an Eventide Timefactor on vintage delay setting.

I was requested to make another 'lo-fi' type patch, and this is the result: ambient chords from the modular which are torn apart into digital destruction by the Eventide pedals. Enjoy!

PATCH NOTES:
Despite what it may look like this is a very simple patch; some of the cables in the video aren't actually doing anything but were left over from my experimenting.
There are 2 sequences from the M32s, both clocked by Maths separately. LFOs modulate both filter cutoffs, and both filter resonances are randomly modulated. The Minimod oscillator is set to a 5th above one sequence, and is patched into both Ext Audio inputs to be mixed with the other oscillators. That's it for the modular patch; the pedals supply all the distortion and texture.

If you want to recreate this patch, you can find it here:
