"What works:

1) It powers up when connected to a 220volt step up transformer.
2) It loads samples from floppy disc.
3) It samples and then plays samples and sequences.
4) There is no strange hum or buzzing coming from the unit (it's quiet).
5) LCD screen works, and contrast adjustment knob works.
6) The buttons all have their lettering, which is amazing for such an old unit.
7) All switches/sliders/pots currently work as they should, prior to shipping.

"This is known as the Italo Disco synth, but it is capable of so much more. Do a search on YouTube for "Solton Hungry Like the Wolf" to see what this synth is really capable of. But that really only scratches the surface. These were used as sort of one-man synthpop bands back in the day, were found on a lot of italo-disco hits, and have enjoyed quite a cult following as of late. They were made in Italy, and have now become very rare to find, particularly in the US, and especially in this condition. It has a really warm sound, due to the SSM chips used in the circuitry. The string synth is incredibly rich sounding, similar to a Crumar Performer. The synth sounds like a Roland SH-101. The bass synth is very punchy, similar to a Moog bass or even a TB-303. You have full control over the volume levels of each of the 8-bit drum sounds, and the drum programming is very intuitive, sounding very similar to a LinnDrum. You can also swap out eproms if you have an eprom burner. The synth sounds are incredibly flexible, with sliders to control the brilliance of the sound, sliders to control the sustain of the bass notes, and sliders to control the volume of the piano, strings, bass, accordion, and synth sounds."

HAINBACH / TODD BARTON - Ultraviolet Light Tapes & Upcoming Todd Barton Performances

Upcoming performances by Todd Barton futher below. The following is the description for the video above.

"Both pieces are composed/improvised in real time using a Buchla Music Easel

and a TC Electronic Ditto x4 looper. Angya is a journey that follows sounds as they

unfold into various sonic universes. Texture III explores creating an ever-changing

timbral drone."- Todd Barton

'Its a clichè that every composer travelling to Bali must be influenced by the Gamelan orchestra. I am not the exception. There is a magic to the Gamelan that conforms with what electronic music is to me, both in sound and composition. Using Adam Morford's cut down version of the Gamelan, the rough but beautiful Gamelan Strips, I composed the first piece of this collaborative album. The second uses modular synthesizers to mimic the layering techniques of the Gamelan. The final track, Antics, explores a different but similarly influential idiophone, the African mbira. Together, these three tell a story of immersion and disintegration, folding percussive sounds into ambient timbres.' - Hainbach

Making-Of the EuroTile Backing Track

Published on Mar 16, 2019 SYINSI

"A little modular jam composed in a video editor instead of a DAW.

Audio was recorded directly to the video camera above the table.

The keyboard was sending a 140bpm clock as well as CV to the EuroTile modulars. I jammed around and recorded the bits that didn't completely suck.

In the DAW --er-- editor (Vegas) I brought the tracks in and muted the video while they were cut down into segments and loops. I locked the timeline in the editor to 4/4 bars and 140bpm so it would be easier to line everything up and keep everything in sync.

After everything was mixed, I un-muted the video, then arranged them into the grid so they would jump into existence whenever their audio track was playing."

Deluge 3.0 Firmware Feature Tease: QWERTY Keyboard

Published on Mar 16, 2019 Synthstrom Audible

"A tease of one of the features coming in Deluge Firmware Update 3.0, due 2019

This major software update will be out later this year. Development is still underway and there will be a lot more to unveil soon, but the feature we can finally demo to you is is our new QWERTY keyboard mode.

In this mode, the Deluge's pads double as a QWERTY keyboard, allowing you to type text. This is accompanied by the ability to give your saved songs and presets actual text-based names, and quickly locate files by typing their name or first few characters. This will be a serious workflow boost for our users who have hundreds or even thousands of songs saved, or work with large libraries of samples. See the video below for a demonstration.

We’ll be unveiling the V3.0 software at Superbooth in Berlin on May 9th, but will share another tease and further details on what you can expect before then."

X1L3 - Underwurlde and Shard - Harsh noise and power electronix

Published on Mar 16, 2019 X1L3

"Trial run of underwurlde (beta) - esoteric delay, looper and texture generator in a power electronics session. The set is dominated heavily by shard, but as it progresses and underwurlde finds it's place the lead is gradually handed over. So if you're curious then it's worth lettig the video run, or at least skipping to a third to mid ay through to get to where underwurlde starts to take the lead roll. Shard is continuously fed through underwurlde. For something fucked up to grap in a looper it does a great job. To then pitch and further abuse that psychosis is awesome. Wreckage provides the backing drone that leads in and out and keeps a drone through much of the set. Soundmachines LP1 lightplanes are used through the whole thing for cv manipulation. I love these things for live work and can't recommend them enough :)

The module was orginally designed to serve as a companion to shard, specifically for those with a desire for unhinged, violent and extreme textures and sounds. It serves the original purpose admirably but can be used with just about anything to add a quite unique slant on things. A past of indulging in circuit bending and a taste for abstract electronica being pivotal to the final outcome of the module.

At the core of underwurlde is a delay with an impressive maximum time and a solid method of manipulating the audio passing through it. Almost as if the ram contents were concrete. It can do the nice 'analogue' delay thing and time wise is capable of three to four seconds before you start to touch on a drop in quality, five to six with the low pass filter closed to mask the start of aliasing and noise. Beyond that it can drop to incredibly long looping with a gradual deterioration into bizarre and unique abuse through to noise similar to a pt2399, but much much better. It can lock the contents of the ram and switch to the function of looper. While in both delay and looper mode a 'ramglitch' array can be activated to mutilate the audio passing through the system. At faster rates you get the kinds o feffects often found in circuit bent digital machines. A circuit bent TR505 would be a good reference point for an example of this. As the rate decreases it gets more and more unhinged. The whitehouse track 'a cunt like you' being a prime example of what it starts to do once the echo/loop rate is slowed down. In a power electronix/noise rig it fits perfectly next to shard as it can provide the rhythmical texture favoured in PE such as NTT and theologian while shard is left to generate more organic artefacts and textures.

Gating is single press on/off on all features. Delay on/off, ramlock, delay/loop fast/slow, ramglitch1, 2 and 3. A gate or trigger will set any feature high or low depending on state. A second gate will revert back.

Ramglitch has a 3x array available to it. On the back of the module are three jumpers. Each of which can be set to configure the ramglitch array according to taste. An expansion module is planned for this which will add another eight gates over an 8 point matrix to the module. Each addressing one of the data lines in the ram/processor interface. Each data line being able to intefere with every other as desired. This will give countless ramglitch combinations which in turn give the module the capability to generate true circuit bent sounds, eliminating the necessity of a circuit bent instrument for those who might be interested in experimenting with such things."

A collaboration with look_o_u_t (check him on instagram @look_o_u_t). Having been inspired by this beautiful piece by Albert Paley (@paleystudios) entitled "Progression" that was then on exhibit at Sculpture Fields park in Chattanooga, TN (www.sculpturefieldspark.org), the drone/pad was patched first by look_o_u_t and then I patched the bells and rhythmic elements using Intellijel Plonk and Mutable Instruments Plaits. The footage was shot on the Lumix GH5 with Leica 12-60 lens.

★ Special thanks to my good friend look_o_u_t for making this happen. ★

Recorded in Ableton Live 10. As always, thanks for listening.

Technic SX-K350 - Cheesy Home Keyboard Synthy Pop Stuff

Published on Mar 16, 2019 ChrisLody

"This Technics SX-K350 has been languishing in my attic for a couple of years because it was faulty when I first connected it up after purchasing it and hauling it home. It's volume control had malfunctioned so it was playing well over it's maximum volume and making tons of noise. I assumed it would be more difficult that the 30 minutes it took me to remove, disassemble, clean and re-solder the volume slider or I would have done it much sooner. It's still a bit on the wonk, the audio is panned over about 50% and one of the outputs doesn't work so I’m using the headphone socket, but I think that may be more trouble to fix that it's worth. It weighs an absolute tone btw.

It's got a few usable sounds on it, especially if you like making utter cheese! Here I have the String Ensemble sound set up as a left hand split with Brass and Cosmic layered in the right hand. Interestingly it has midi with multi channel support for different layers and sync for it's drums and sequencer so I'll have to have a go at that at some point. This is just the output of the SX-K350 with a pinch of reverb to tie it all together."

Technics SX-350 via Midi - Synthwave Horror Theme

Published on Mar 16, 2019 ChrisLody

"I had a quick go with the Technics SX-350 via midi just to test it functions. I was disappointed to find to that the drums can't be sequenced which is a shame, but then thrilled to discover that all the 'poly' sounds can be played over a seven octave range! Not only that but it sounds pretty damn nice over that seven octaves too. So here is some John Carpenter inspired synthwave horror soundtrack stuff on the Guitar setting with Celeste turned on and plenty of Zoom 1201 reverb."
