Jon Appleton: A Tribute

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We pay tribute to composer and electronic music pioneer Jon Appleton who passed away on January 30, 2022. He founded the Dartmouth Electronic Music Studio and later the graduate program in digital music, where we was a teacher and mentor to many composers and musicians over the year. He was instrumental in creating the Synclavier synthesizers from New England Digital, and raised the profile of electro-acoustic music in the United States through societies like SEAMUS and his numerous teaching residencies. We at CatSynth send our thoughts to his family, friends, and colleagues.

To learn more about his life and legacy, please visit his website https://www.appletonjon.com/"

Tiptop Buchla Tip no 6

video upload by Todd Barton

"This is a mini-series on the basics of the new Buchla & Tiptop Audio modules. This episode looks at engaging the "cycling" cv input for the 281t Function Generator. I'm really enjoying these modules and Tiptop has enthusiastically embraced the Buchla paradigm. The oscillators are sounding great and squarely in the Buchla ballpark."

Simple Circuit Bending on a Studiologic Numa Compact 2

video upload by Extralife

"I got a new keyboard! The Studiologic Numa Compact is a great combination stage piano/synthesizer that has bi-timbral voicing, 4 simultaneous built-in FX plus reverb, and studiologic's great organ emulations. The only issue I have with it is that the filter control is very fiddly, being located on a spring-loaded joystick. This simple hack installs a potentiometer and switch on the front panel to allow fine control of the filter frequency on all patches."

Black Corporation Xerxes X Vermona Vintage DRM 🇨🇮 Italo 🇯🇵 Minimal 🇩🇪 Disco Techno Synth Demo Track!

video upload by Wine&Synths

"Here is my latest track: produced just using the Vintage Vermona and the Black Corporation Xerxes that appeared surprisingly in the studio for a check!

It's a highly inspiring synthesizer without any flaws. A real joy to play with!

No additional effects other than stock delay and reverb from Ableton Live11 were used.

Quasimidi POLYMORPH. Old school synthesizer psychodelic sequence

video upload by Mutant Manfred

"Quasimidi Polymorph is not a perfect syntheziser. Has some aliasing and noise. That noise and aliasing is part of its personality. That's why I like it.

The sequence you can hear for the first 50 seconds I created 10 years ago, stored in the synthesizer's memory and forgotten until now.
I have recreated it again now by adding two more layered sound structures (starting from the 50th second).

I created animations to this video. I used Adobe After Effect for this.
Everything edited and coloured in DaVinci Resolve Studio 17.

Recorded straight to an Olympus LS-14 recorder.
No mastering, no external effects. No preset sounds.

Filmed Panasonic Lumix S5 with a Lumix S 50mm f1.8"

Quasimidi POLYMORPH. A great synth from 1999!

video upload by

"This is PolyMorph by Quasimidi. Forgotten German synthesizer produced in 1999. Polymorph is final product of Quasimidi. The company folded in 2000. I wonder out of curiosity what products the company would still be producing today. Even for today polymorph sounds pretty good. I have owned it since 2006."

Peak / Summit - part 2 (250 custom patches / presets)

video upload by Jexus

"No talking demo of Novation Peak & Summit. All patches custom-made by Jexus. I did not use additional FX in the demo, all the delays, reverbs, noises, loops and other effects are part of the Peak / Summit engine & mod matrix.

---

So I bought the Summit and made patches for it and then learned that they won't be accepted by the Peak. So then I bought the Peak and recreated the patches in Peak format. Then, when I was auditioning the patches on Peak and Summit simultaneously I thought they sounded cool together. So I decided to make a video this way. So I had to buy a new widescreen camera and a new capture card. Then I realized I also needed to upgrade my video editing software and change some plugins. So everything is different;)

Additional info about the setup: the patches will work and sound the same on Peak and Summit. By saying "chained" I mean just the Midi connection. The Peak is receiving all notes and knob info from my Summit (via a Midi cable). The synths are playing the exact same patches, but they are producing the audio independently and you are hearing Peak in the left channel of your headphones and the Summit in the right channel. The voice architecture / allocating is unaffected and unchanged - take a look at the "voice LEDs" on the Summit and Peak. When I hit a key and the patch is for example a 3-voice patch, you will see three LEDs blinking on the Peak and also three LEDs blinking on the Summit (and what naturally follows, if I use another finger to hit another key so that 2 keys are depressed, three new LEDs will light up, totalling in six). So the patches are not exceeding the voice count of the synths - you don't need to do any tricks to play them the same way I'm playing them;)

V.A.I. 65 : CRB Computerband 2000 / EKOSynth

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Another demonstration of the marvellous CRB Computerband 2000 - an auto-accompaniment machine with 4 sections made by organ manufacturer CRB in the Marche region of Italy.
This time we paired it with the EkoSynth, a quite rare monophonic preset synth from the mid 1970s made by Italian guitar and amp manufacturer EKO. This is a unique sounding synth compared to many other Italian monophonics of the era, the filter is special, really not bad, so you can get a lot of different sounds out of this machine."

Buchla / TipTop Audio 200 Series | Episode 01

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I always dreamed of having a Buchla in my studio. Now Buchla & Tiptop Audio have teamed up to bring real Buchla 200 series modules to eurorack, kicking off with the 281T and 258T. I am really bad with remembering all those numbers, but it's a quad function generator and a dual oscillator and both are super affordable (if not sold out). They don't use bananas, it's all true eurorack. Obviously this series will grow as my collection will grow in the next months, or maybe years."
