Soundtoys SuperPlate Styles

video uploads by soundtoys

The 5 styles of the new SuperPlate by Soundtoys.

Available now at www.soundtoys.com

See the announcement post here

"Take a look at all five plate reverb styles included in SuperPlate – each was inspired by an iconic plate. In the development of SuperPlate, Soundtoys added nine plates to their gear collection and spent seven years immersed in reverb, dreaming up the modern features that would reinvent this classic effect.

The reverb you hear in each video is entirely one of SuperPlate's styles. Explore the unique sonic character of each individual plate style."

Playlist:

1. Soundtoys SuperPlate: E. Plate III Style
The EcoPlate III (c. 1982) was the third and smallest version of the EcoPlate series of reverbs designed by Jim Cunningham. All three plates in the EcoPlate series use a stainless steel alloy to create its reverberation and all three versions have an exceptionally bright and spacious sound. Soundtoys studied and added an EcoPlate III to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. E. Plate III is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

2. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Classic 140 Style
SuperPlate's Classic 140 plate style is based on the EMT 140 (1957), the most well-known and the first commercially successful plate reverb. It was made by hanging a plate of cold-rolled steel in a metal frame, and as legend has it, the steel came from one specific Welsh ore mine. The EMT 140 was a studio standard for decades, and is what most people reference when they talk about plate reverb. Soundtoys studied and added five EMT 140 units to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Classic 140 is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

3. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Audicon Style
“The Plate” (c. 1971) also known as the “Lawson Plate” was designed by Gene Lawson (Lawson Microphones) in Nashville to be a more economical plate reverb for those who couldn’t afford an original EMT 140. It was manufactured by console manufacturer Auditronics out of Memphis, Tennessee. Soundtoys studied and added "The Plate" to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Audicon is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Sound design by Hannah Tobias – www.hannah-tobias.com
4. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Stocktronics Style
The Stocktronics RX4000 (1978) is the only Swedish plate we know of, and it uses a steel alloy plate with low internal crystallic damping characteristics, which gives it a very distinctive extended high-frequency response. In other words, this plate has zing! While Soundtoys was unable to add the Stocktronics RX4000 to our gear collection, our study of the RX4000 was made possible by proud Stocktronics owners spanning two continents (if anyone is keen to sell, please call us!). Stocktronics is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

Sound design by Bryn Bliska – @brynbliska • www.brynbliska.com
Special thanks to Mattias Olsson at Roth Händle Studio for letting us access this impeccable Stocktronics RX4000 – @RothHandle
5. Soundtoys SuperPlate: Goldfoil 240 Style
SuperPlate's Goldfoil 240 plate style is based on the EMT 240 (1970). While technically not a plate at all, it was designed to create a more compact and portable reverb. Instead of a steel plate, the EMT 240 used a thin foil of 24-karat gold to create its distinctive darker and tighter sound. Soundtoys studied and added two EMT 240 units to our gear collection for the development of SuperPlate. Goldfoil 240 is just one of the five plate styles and many features included in Soundtoys' SuperPlate reverb plug-in.

"Technics sy 1010 analog synth, 100% original Japanese domestic model, works perfectly. A single VCO, LFO, VCF, ADSR, VCA mono synth with great routing, ala the moog micromoog, with a very similar filter.

This specific unit was cleaned, tested and is in good condition. Has some scratches here and there but nothing major. Keys are a bit yellow.

This is a Japanese (110v) unit, free 220v adapter available."

"Roland Jupiter 6 61-Key Synthesizer from the early 1980s in very good condition overall. It is completely fully functional with no idle noise and was just loaded with the original factory presets. It is studio ready with no weird technical stuff going on whatsoever. There are minor areas of cosmetic wear on the end cheeks and two very small rust spots on the chassi. However, the condition is impressive for how old it is. The original two prong power cable is included."

Spectraphon | by MakeNoise x Soundhack

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"The Spectraphon combines a spectral processor with a complex VCO. While it may look huge (34 HP)) it's still a lot smaller than a combined Buchla 259 and 296. A spectral processor is a bit like a parametric EQ with CV control, where you can slide through/focus on frequency bands. SP will analyze incoming sound, classify the harmonic content (the spectrum) and adds it to its own fundamental sine. The process of resynthesis is like impressionism in paintings, creating loose and inaccurate brush strokes of the original sound. So it's NOT a sampler and it doesn't capture audio. It listens to incoming audio, and paints its own picture. The process is called Spectral Amplitude Modulation (changing the volume of individual 'colors' with CV) aka SAM. Hello, SAM!

These spectra can also be saved for later use. But it doesn't stop there. First, SP offers two independent spectral processors A & B, which can interact with an FM bus. Side B can also sync with/follow side A. So you can process two sounds and then mangle them into beautiful new textures. You can also use the saved spectra (16 arrays containing up to 1024 spectra) in Spectral Array Oscillation mode (SAO) and use it as a dual complex spectral VCO. But it doesn't stop there either. It also offers two multi-functional outputs that work as envelope followers in SAM, and sub-oscillators in SAO. They also double as stepped/smooth random CV and a triangle LFO. Then, the journey begins. So yes, you will be influenced. Spectraphon is a Jedi mind trick. This is the droid you're looking for.

All music in this video is created with Spectraphon as the final audio source. Some parts are produced and multitracked in the DAW. I'll use a 'live' indicator when the patch is 'raw' and recorded as is.

The video below is bit more on the raw noise/experimental side [watch your volume levels]. It's interesting from the perspective that the Pro 3 has the ability to create these non conventional timbres. It can be raw, brutal, and wide open.

Waldorf M - "Explorations" Soundset (55 Presets)

video upload by LFOstore

https://lfo.store/

"Waldorf M is an 8 voice wavetable synthesizer with analog filters and VCAs. An extensive collection of wavetables allows to find unusual shades of the sound palette, and analog filter maintains the quality of the output sound at the proper level.

LFO Store presents a remarkable soundbank created by the talanted team of sound designers for this interesting Waldorf’s device. These 55 exclusive presets are modwheel assigned and full of modulation options to be used both for studio work and live performances!

In this soundset you may find cosmic leads, dreamy ARPs, touchy plucks, penetrating pads, bright basses, and much more! The sounds are suitable for different styles of music, including ambient, cinematica, EDM, etc.

The soundset will be useful for both professionals, thanks to complex sounds and modulation techniques, and beginners, to explore the possibilities of the synthesizer from different angles!"

Make Noise Spectraphon Dual Spectral Oscillator | Demo

The New Make Noise SoundHack Spectraphon - The Deep Dive Review

video upload by Perfect Circuit

"The Make Noise x SoundHack Spectraphon is a dual spectral oscillator for Eurorack modular synthesizers. At first glance, it might look somewhat like a classic "complex oscillator" in the style of Buchla's 259 or Make Noise's own DPO—but there's much more to it than that. To make a long story short, it offers a new and novel approach to sound design that we haven't quite seen in Eurorack before.

Rather than relying on wavefolding, Spectraphon is all about additive synthesis and resynthesis: you can think of it as an oscillator whose timbre is driven by external sound sources. Inspired by the Buchla 296 Programmable Spectral Processor and Touché hybrid keyboard synthesizer, it presents a new and novel take on sound generation and processing.

As a live processor, Spectraphon can be like a vocoder, a resonator, a pseudo-spectral freeze; as an oscillator, it creates a wide range of evolving tones based on stored analyses of external sounds. It's a dense module—so in this video, we dive into how it works and how it sounds.
