CR78 Drum Machine Sample Pack Demo by DDA

video upload by DinDrum Audio

"Demo for the DinDrum Audio Sample Pack 'CR78 - Drum Loops & Hits'
Demo made with Loops and Kits from this Pack.
Available at https://dindrum.com

Most people know the CR-78 (Released in 1978) as the first mass production user-programmable drum machine,
(first programable Drum Machine was actually the EKO ComputeRhythm with only 15-25 made*)
but many do not realise that the CR78 was the first drum machine to offer external synchronisation options, both external clock in and trigger clock out. This made it a solid time keeper, allowing tight integration with other electronic instruments in the electronic music studio.

Introducing Morbus Legio noise generator and distortion processor from Noise Engineering

video upload by Noise Engineering

"Morbus Legio from Noise Engineering is a unique processor and noise generator combination!

If you already own a Legio module, this firmware is available for FREE: https://bit.ly/4aZc0JV
Visit our Customer Portal to swap your Legio module to this firmware: http://bit.ly/3JvmC8N

The Frequency encoder changes the frequency of the noise and bypasses when tapped. Harsh changes the sample rate, and Color changes the color and width of the noise. Each of these parameters can also be CV-controlled.

Switch between three modes for wave folding, and add a vintage-inspired Chorus.

Use Morbus to process an external signal with its stereo inputs. Soft clipping, wave folding, full-wave rectification distortion, and chorus can all be applied to the incoming signal, and the internal noise oscillator can be mixed with the output or bypassed."

A Zen-Bro romance told in resonant screams

video upload by Richard DeHove

"I have a bad habit of cranking the resonance on any machine I touch. It's so ingrained I did it at a friend's studio a little while back on an unfamiliar synth - and after a brief shriek decaying to an air-moving whomp I thanked the gods that the volume was set so low. I've used so many Polivoks-style filters in recent times I'm used to cranking the resonance with impunity.

Which brings me to the delicate love story between the Erica Synths Zen delay and the Behringer Pro-800. My trusty Rev2 is for sale and in its place I bought the Pro-800. Why trade down you may ask? Truth is I'm not a big poly player. The more polyphony you use the more simple the sound needs to be, in which case I wanted a simple yet knobby poly, and that's the Pro-800. Added bonus: no onboard effects. So when the Pro-800 arrived this week I teamed it with the Zen delay immediately.

So the romance is revealed: A brand new Pro-800 teamed with the Zen delay. The 800 is switched on for the first time, the resonance is cranked, the Zen's input drive and overdrive is engaged and almost immediately this gloriously jagged, gritty, and unpredictable darkness pours out.

Five minutes of first-time noodlings is a bit much I admit. And I was going to say all this over the top of the video but that felt wrong, like ads in a funeral service. So instead here it is. It is literally the first time I ever powered it on, to the point where I didn't even know how to save the sound or know whether I'm in tune, on the upside I pretty sure moved every knob and switch so if you want to replicate the sound, there it is.

Even so the 800's resonance is not fully cranked, I had to back off a little just to retain the ability to hold an actual melody.

Whether the 800 is good for anything else, who knows - I haven't got past this sound yet and I must look up how to save it. What's clear though is that the 800's filter teams beautifully with some heavy drive. I can feel more teamings in the air - perhaps another stereo 'Roger That' outing?

One final thing worth mentioning: the Zen delay cost significantly more than the Pro-800. Makes you wonder where your synth dollar is best spent.

MYTH - Preset Demo

A Living Beast

MYTH was built to create the joy and inspiration we feel when playing with hardware. Instead of “programming” sounds you create sounds by exploration and tweaking. The sound is rich and organic, and the entire system acts like one organism.

Re-synthesis

In classical synthesis, oscillator waves are mostly static and you add filters and modulators to "program" all the variations to make the sound organic and interesting. MYTH offers a paradigm shift: drag and drop audio and it will be re-synthesised as an IRIS. The inherent variations and richness of the sample can now be exploited with the TRANSFORMER dials. Of course - you can also add classical LFOs, envelopes or filters as much as you want. Just...you will rarely feel the need!

Look Mum, no Cables

Modular systems are so powerful, but also complex and easily confusing. MYTH has modules, but no cables: like in a pedal board the modules are simply chained from left to right. Insanely powerful and unbeatably simple!

Weird and Wonderful

You can use MYTH as a virtual analog subtractive synth, create shimmering metallics, add colourful acoustic resonances, create glittering grain clouds ... or do all at the same time. From fragrant pads to striking kicks - MYTH can do any sound with ease. And if you prefer to ride a wild horse: there are things like ORBIT, GLURP or ATARI PUNK - weird and wonderful new stuff.

The Fastest Workflow in the West

Let's be honest: sound design can be tedious, and we all love tweaking presets! MYTH goes one step further with a randomisation system on steroids: for example you can freeze sections to keep them unchanged. Or you "breed" new presets from a selection of parent presets. Or you take a sample and then browse through presets to put them over your sample like a dress. It's incredibly easy, fast and fun!

"First part I demo a few presets and most of the controls.
On the second part I enter test mode and let you listen to the 6 voices filter calibration.
This is a good test to check if your Juno 106 needs calibration. Most of the calibration procedure is dedicated to the filter setting, since oscillators are DCO they won't drift, but the filters can. By entering test mode and selecting bank 3 you basically recall a patch that has filter in self oscillation with keyboard tracking, thus you can easily hear if any of the 6 voices is off. Just play notes in the high and low notes and listen to the pitch (and amplitude). The 6 voices should sound the same, like on this unit. If one or more is way off it's time for calibration."

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers.
Check out the original songs with the original artists here on YouTube.
