C64 Is Your Friend

Published on May 30, 2020 synthjunk

"This is the title track from my latest EP. I created a fun video to go with it. All the sounds were made using a commodore 64 computer.

The Background clips are from the excellent youtube channel called "Chroma Key Backgrounds" (free use). The EP is available on Bandcamp, Spotify and other streaming sites.

Hope this brings some enjoyment."

"A track from my new EP called C64 is your friend, which is available on Bandcamp, Spotify and other streaming sites. All the sounds on the EP were made using a commodore 64 computer. A vintage Akai S612 sampler was also used to sample the C64 to allow playing chords. Hope you enjoy it."

Commodore 64 plays Huey Lewis (1985-86)

Published on Feb 9, 2020 Jma Mitch

"As a teenager in 1985 and 1986, I used my trusty Commodore 64 and the "Music Construction Set" program to create computer versions of a slew of songs by the greatest musical artist of all time: Huey Lewis and The News. Only Huey songs, that was the only artist I did. I recently (Feb 2020) was able to access my 35 year old C64 disks, many of which survived, including the ones with the songs I'm uploading to this channel. Some of the songs sound better than others, but these are the original unedited files."

The Commodore Music Maker Deluxe Improvised Jam

Published on Dec 26, 2019 MrCaliforniaD

"First off, sorry for the occasional clipping of the sound console.

This is my friend Jay-Boi playing with the Music Maker Deluxe in a very basic but effective musical setup.

The Commodore controller is connected directly on the keyboard matrix of a Commodore 64c (SID 8580). The sound used is a 3 voice sawtooth waveform with adjustable LFO amount and filter amount using the 2 potentiometers on the side.

The audio out of the C64c is going inside a DIY MS-20 like filter box that receives it's modulation from the a Korg MS-20. The output of the filter box goes to a first track. The Korg MS-20 is connected to a second track.

If you want to know more about this Commodore 64 with piano keys, you can watch these two videos:" [posted here]

C64 DCO's are three, sharing one filter. I made a backtrack with three tracks: 1: bassline, 2:extra "drums" and 3: initial sequence and "guitar". C64 runs as slave, with Pro Tools as master. They sync for start/stop, as well as for MIDI CLOCK.

Gear used:
Commodore 64 Aldi version (a bit yellowish!). SID 8580
Emu Emax II
Roland Promars MRS-2
Roland JP8000.

Backtrack originally recorded in Pro Tools (with many more instruments)"

Model:Samples does Amiga Tracker Music - Crystal Hammer

Published on May 1, 2019 tubesockor

"Recreating the classic Commodore Amiga tracker song 'Crystal Hammer' - on an Elektron Model:Samples. The song was originally written by Karsten Obarski back in 1987.

The first section is a background story about Amiga and trackers in general, as well as the process on how this recreation was done.

All the sounds were converted from the original ST-01 files, and the song data was manually input on the Model:Samples, only using four out of the six available channels (all for the sake of authenticity)

At 3:25, the music starts.

This was made possible thanks to the new firmware update 1.02A, which allows samples to be parameter locked."

Super Mario Brothers & The Legend of Zelda Themes Played on a Commodore VIC-20 from 1980

Published on Jul 10, 2018 MrCaliforniaD

"Yes. Your ears are working right. That old sound chip sounded pretty detuned. This song was made using the Vic-Midi cartridge from Retro Innovations. Please note that all track were recorded separately to avoid the chip from generating its classical overdriving when producing polyphony. I tried it and the result was awful. :) Please feel free to ask me any questions."

Mr Woofer - Synth Demos

Published on Oct 6, 2017 Mr Woofer

Playlist:

1. Mr Woofer - Enter Space (Atari STE Demo)
"Enter Space!" says Sinclair Spectrum ZX through its Currah uSpeech synthesizer. The Atari STE and its Yamaha YM2149F chip in all its square wave glory does exactly that. The tools used to control the STE are NSQ (Near Synthesizer Quality), Chip Synth and MaxYMiser.

The powerful beats are coming from NI Massive except for the Hi-hats and noise bursts which are also Atari STE. As usual external reverb and delay are added. Hope you enjoy it!

The “C=MM² red” Commodore Music Maker Sexy Upgrade

Published on Mar 6, 2018 Perifractic's Retro Recipes

Note the above is a 2 part playlist. You can skip ahead using the player controls on bottom.

For those that want to build your own, you can find the parts list on Perifractic's Retro Recipes YouTube description here.

Part 1:
🕹 After seeing a beautiful piece of Akai kit called the “MPK mini red”, I realized I could recreate its look without taking up more space on my desk. And so v2 of the Commodore Music Maker (“CMM”) was born. I call it the “C=MM² red”, but you can just call it bloody sexy. Who needs E=MC² when you have C=MM². (Rhetorical question.)

Part 2:
Let’s finish my 'C=MM² red', record a new chiptune from it & make SID scream!
📀 OWN BOTH TRACKS NOW:
- All current and new Patreons (even at $1!) get access to their own shiny download link to own the full track PLUS a bonus polished ‘radio edit’ with sparkly percussion & echo added. So that’s 2 tracks for as little as 50¢ each.
- Better still as this video has no ads they also help support this retrochannel to hopefully keep bringing you content, so thank you!
- I’m very proud with how my original little SID song turned out! I hope it brings you joy.
