Introducing the Temecula DSP DEEP/4

video uploads by TemeculaDSP

via Temecula DSP

DEEP/4 is a painstaking recreation of one of the most powerful multi-effects processors ever built. Every algorithm has been rebuilt at the instruction level from the original 24-bit DSP hardware, preserving the exact digital character of the algorithms that made these units legendary in studios worldwide.

All 43 original algorithms, mathematically verified against the original DSP architecture. No guesswork.

Features

Four Independent Effects Engines

The DEEP/4 is a powerhouse multi-effects processor featuring 43 fully programmable, high-fidelity algorithms including reverbs, chorus, flanging, delays, distortion, and pitch shifting. Operate it as a single massive effects system, a pair of stereo processors, or four entirely independent units. Its advanced routing matrix supports true serial, parallel, and feedback configurations to sculpt complex effect topologies that conventional units simply can't touch.
Flexible Multi-Unit Routing

Run all four units in series for massive effect chains, split them into parallel paths for layered textures, or use feedback routing to create evolving, self-modulating soundscapes. DEEP/4 provides independent routing control for each pair (A/B and C/D) plus a main bus link — supporting serial, parallel, and two feedback configurations with adjustable feedback amount. Use it as a single 4-unit processor, two independent stereo pairs, or four standalone effects.
43 Algorithms Across 7 Categories

From lush reverbs and complex multi-tap delays to pitch shifters, dynamics processors, and guitar amp simulations — every algorithm from the original hardware is here, rebuilt at the instruction level and fully programmable.

Ensoniq ESQ-1 Analog/Digital Polyphonic Synthesizer Workstation w/ Cartridge SN ESQ-35724-D

via this eBay listing

"This listing is for a vintage 1980's Ensoniq ESQ-1 Analog/Digital Polyphonic Synthesizer Workstation that comes with an Ensoniq Sequencer Expander Cartridge and power cord. This synthesizer is in good physical and working condition. The winning bidder will receive exactly what is pictured.

The Ensoniq ESQ-1 is a 61-key, velocity sensitive, eight-note polyphonic and multitimbral synthesizer released by Ensoniq in 1985. It was marketed as a "digital wave synthesizer" but is actually an early music workstation. Although its voice generation is typically subtrative in much the same fashion as most analog synthesizer that preceded it, its oscillators are neither voltage nor digitally controlled, but true digital oscillators, provided by a custom Ensoniq wavetable chip. The signal path includes analog resonant low-pass filters and an analog amplifier.

RetroSound Studio Tour: Vintage Digital Synthesizers

video upload by RetroSound

"RetroSound Studio Tour:
Legendary Vintage Digital & Hybrid Synthesizers of the 80s and early 90s

In this episode of RetroSound Studio, I explore classic digital synthesizers that revolutionized electronic music production during the 80s and early 90s. From FM synthesis and wavetable synthesis to vector synthesis, PD synthesis, vitual analog and Roland’s LA synthesis, these instruments introduced a new generation of sound design and defined the sonic identity of an era.

The Yamaha DX7 became one of the best-selling synthesizers of all time, defining FM electric pianos and metallic digital textures. The PPG Wave pioneered wavetable synthesis, laying the foundation for modern digital sound engines. The Sequential Prophet VS introduced vector synthesis, allowing dynamic blending between digital waveforms. The Roland D-50 shaped late-80s pop and film scoring with its LA synthesis architecture, while the Roland JD-800 brought hands-on control back to digital synthesis in the 1990s.

These digital synthesizers shaped genres such as synth-pop, new wave, ambient, house, techno, trance, and film music. Today, they remain highly sought after by producers, collectors, and sound designers researching vintage digital synthesizers, 80s keyboard sounds, virtual analog, classic FM synthesis, and wavetable history."

I never really thought of the Fizmo as an acoustic emulation synth. There's no mention of such in the manual. It's a transwave synthesizer similar to wavetable synthesis with ability to scan through different waveforms in a given patch. But according to Wikipidia: "The Ensoniq Fizmo was a synthesizer developed by Ensoniq. Developed in 1998, the Fizmo uses a Digital Acoustic simulation Transwave with 4 MB of ROM, up to four voices per preset, each voice with two oscillators, independent LFOs and FX"

"The Ensoniq SQ-80 is an eight-voice, polyphonic, poly-timbral synthesizer, capable of playing eight different sounds at once, with dynamic stereo panning for each voice. Other luxuries include a total of 75 waveforms, a 61-note keyboard with velocity & aftertouch, and a floppy disk drive for storing patches and sequences. By combining all of this in a single integrated unit. the Enqoniq SQ-8O makes the perfect nerve center for any studio rig. This unit comes fully tested and serviced. Enclosure is in excellent condition for an instrument of this age, price reflects quality. Power cord included."

Fizmosphere by BENGE

video upload by Memetune Studio

"Here's a little end-of-year ambient composition made on the Ensoniq Fizmo. I love this synth - it's my new favourite ambient pad machine

I am recording two stereo loops into the Concrete Machine and adding extra reverb from the FX Aid Spin Chip device

I made the visuals myself - I love doing this sort of thing as you can probably tell

Happy New Year everyone!"

Evolving Riddle-4

video upload by Memetune Studio

"Yesterday a new part of the riddle arrived in the post - a beautiful Ensoniq SD1!

The SD1 is a Transwave Rompler workstation from 1990

Did you know that Ensoniq founder Bob Yannes invented the Rompler as we know it (and also the SID chip)? The very first one was called the ESQ1 and came out in 1986, the year before the Roland D50, and then all the other ones from Korg, Yamaha, Kawai, Emu, Alesis, and Kurzweil, each quickly developing their own digital rom chips. Actually Bob used single cycle waveforms stored in rom, but the basic structure and concept of the ESQ1 is what became the rompler. It had 3 simple rom-based VCOs that could be layered and sent through an analog filter. It is a wonderful, epoch defining synth - totally underrated IMO

It was enhanced and repackaged as the SQ80 in 1988 as a fully realised Rompler with more memory for the read-only samples

Their follow up was the VFX which added Transwave synthesis - a bit like the PPG wavetable idea where you can move through the waveform and modulate it. However the VFX had some reliability issues and was replaced a year later by the SD1 which also added a sequencer, and more voices and memory

And this is what we have here - mixed in with the other synths - Quadrasynth, TG33, Waldorf Microwave2 and the Roland JV1080

The reverbs are the Lexicon 224X and the Quantum Room Simulator

There is one part of the riddle left to make - I'll try and work on it tomorrow. Then I will release them all as an album - 'Evolving Riddles' by Benge 😀"
