radiator: the laser synthesizer co-created by Andrew Kilpatrick of Kilpatrick Audio

Published on Jul 2, 2019 Neon Captain

Currently on Kickstarter here.

This one was sent my way via Pat. Note although the primary focus of radiator is a laser light synthesizer, it has audio and CV out. I asked Andrew Kilpatrick about the audio out and he had the following to say:

"Normally the outputs would carry the X and Y signals that move the mirrors. I’ve experimented with it quite a bit and generally it sounds like a very stereo drone, but it could be used as a pitched sound source with voltage or MIDI control. The cool part is that you hear what you see, so it’s basically the most true kind of visualization!

We intend to also have modes that modulate the laser to audio or CV inputs, allowing any parameter of the laser patch to be controlled in real-time from another instrument. Radiator is a flexible type of synth with a modules optimized for making vector graphics, but it all works in the audio range so there are many creative possibilities for musicians."

And regarding the CV out:

"The CV outputs let you use the internal LFOs as sources for other synths and effects. Since a laser preset might have some kind of rhythm to it, you could patch this to other gear to have it work in sync."

The following is the official press release for radiator along with some hi-res pics. Click on the them for larger versions:

Phenol Synth Voices

Published on Apr 26, 2019 Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

"What you are hearing is just the voices of the Kilpatrick Audio Phenol synthesiser, one of my very favourite instruments, self patched, so it's playing itself. No additional effects. What's interesting is that I thought I could hear voices in the music in the opening minute, as if someone were chatting through the walls, but thankfully it was just the synth itself :-)"

Kilpatrck Auido Redox Reverb On The Phenol Synthesizer

Published on Dec 28, 2018 Perfect Circuit

"Kilpatrick Audio's Redox (https://www.perfectcircuit.com/kilpat...) is a stereo reverb with tons of algorithms, modulations and tweakable settings to get many different sounds. The Redox also has presets and an LCD screen so you can easily see and adjust the settings. The sounds range from vintage to modern and the routing is adjustable with the modulation effects either before or after the reverb. In this video the sound source is the Phenol, Kilpatrick's analog banana patchable synthesizer."

Kilpatrick Audio K4815 Pattern Generator Back in Buchla & Mini 200e System

Note the K4815 on the left.  The mini system pictured features the K4816, 1979 Dao, and a Buchla 267e via Noisebug.

"In-stock now. Ships immediately.

Introductory Price: $950
(through 12/31/18)
2019 Retail Price: $1099

Building on the success of the K4815 Pattern Generator originally designed for Eurorack, the K4816 offers Buchla users this amazing module with a design optimised for this high-end format. The K4816 Pattern Generator by Kilpatrick Audio packs incredible power into a single space module. The K4816 can produce notes and varying control voltages for a wide range of musical and experimental sound applications. Its unique approach to music creation is sure to have you finding new melodies and rhythms never heard before. Unlike a step sequencer, where the player picks each note in a sequence, the K4816 creates sequences by combining a scale, a visual pattern (as shown on the display) and a sequence playback motion to determine the rhythms and notes that are actually played. Other parameters can adjust the note and sequence length, as well as the transposition, direction of playback, and so on.

Ambient exercise #1 with Buchla Music Easel | Naenia (OP-1 + Buchla Music Easel)

Published on Mar 23, 2018 Javier Lara

Playlist:

1. Ambient exercise #1 with Buchla Music Easel

Googlish:
Here are some first explorations on the Buchla Music Easel interface.

In short: an incredible interface, which allows you, within an apparently simple and small instrument, to achieve routing and complex configurations that give you an inexhaustible sound spectrum. These possibilities at the same time make the Easel a challenge, both to maintain a musical flow and to be constantly creative with the modulation options it offers. The sound is unique, and as such, you need to become familiar with it and explore all its possibilities. For this exercise I used the modulation oscillator as a normal oscillator, which in this case takes care of all the melodies played on the keyboard, while the Complex Oscillator sounds from the sequencer.

The exercise is more exploration of the instrument than properly musical. I tried to make a patch that would allow different colors of the 2 oscillators of the instrument to be at hand, making the Pulser interact with the sequencer and the envelope in different ways.

Everything that sounds comes from the Easel, including reverb and detuning. :)
2. Naenia (OP-1 + Buchla Music Easel)
C phrygian ambient jam. Buchla Music Easel + Teenage Engineering OP-1.
OP-1 was sequenced by Kilpatrick Carbon sequencer.

Modular Synth Meet Fischbach 2018

Published on May 22, 2018 Wein Glas

"A small town in Germany every year becomes the center of the modular synth scene for a few days. And here is a short video that shows what it is all about: Modular synths, friends, fun, barbecue, and a place called the „Blaue Grotte“!

Thanks to Mic, Tommy and all the great people there!

The soundtrack was made there entirely with a Kilpatrick Modular System with no editing, additional FX or multitracking."
