ROLAND Officially Introduces the SYSTEM-500 Analog Eurorack Modules by Malekko Heavy Industry

The Roland System-500 modules (manufactured by Malekko) are here. Links below take you to the individual pages on Roland's website. These modules are based on the original Roland System-100m and System-500 analog modules. Roland worked directly with Malekko on manufacturing the modules. They are Roland's circuits manufactured into modules by Malekko. It's awesome to see the Malekko M at the bottom of each module as a tribute.

512 DUAL VCO

"Based on the classic SYSTEM-100M modular synthesizer, the SYSTEM-500 is a fully analog recreation of one of the most revered electronic instruments of all time. Newly designed in Eurorack format, the SYSTEM-500 delivers the classic character and functionality of the original with the advantages of a modern instrument. Built in the USA and assembled in Japan, the SYSTEM-500 is made to exacting standards with top-quality components and solid controls. And it’s surprisingly affordable, turning the fantasy of finally owning this legendary instrument into reality.

The 512 Dual VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) is a single module consisting of two voltage controlled oscillators. Each independent VCO produces frequencies across a wide range with 1V/octave tracking and dedicated pulse, triangle, and saw wave outputs. Variable pulse width is available via panel control or CV modulation. Each oscillator’s frequency can also be synchronized to the other in weak or strong modes to achieve a unique 'sync' sound."

521 DUAL VCF

"The 521 Dual VCF (voltage controlled filter) module features two separate low pass filters for modifying the timbre of audio sources. Each filter has its own dedicated controls for frequency cutoff, resonance, and a fixed high pass filter with two switchable cutoff points. Audio and CV input mixers on each channel allow the blending of multiple audio signals and modulation sources."

Macro Machines Omnimod Eurorack Module

Published on Nov 14, 2015 Macro Machines

via Macro Machines

"limited edition preorder ships early 2016
Macro Machines presents an incredibly versatile new addition in the world of eurorack modules. The Omnimod will make a powerful new ally in your adventures through the universe of sound. Omni means all, and mod stands for modulation of control voltage.

Create unique new combinations of envelopes, LFOs and step sequences quickly and easily with the simple and intuitive waveform design interface. Centered around a crisp, high contrast OLED screen, the Omnimod provides vivid visual feedback for precise editing, as well as a scope mode to aid in configuring the inputs. This allows for deep, yet intuitive control over complex modulation sequencing. Endless possibilities become child’s play.

Once you have sculpted the perfect waveforms, you can store them for later, and recall them at any time in the future. You can also use the Macro Machines Storage Strip to allow multiple modules on the same power bus line to store and recall their settings at the same time, creating something never before possible in eurorack, instantaneous system wide storage and recall of entirely different configurations.

The Omnimod features:

– 4 powerful channels of LFOs, Step Sequencing, Envelope Generation and Envelope Following, in limitless combinations.
– user friendly interface with intuitive visual feedback.
– an oscilloscope mode to visualize input signals: fine tune the extraction of triggers, select different modes, and smooth or scale envelope following.
– full storage and recall of all parameters automagically before power cycling,
– user definable waves for reusing complex individual channel settings.
– 64 storable, recallable, sequence-able, and randomize-able presets
– only 14HP wide, packs loads of useful possibilities in a small space.
Located atop the beautiful OLED screen, there are four (4) inputs and four (4) outputs using the highest quality 1/8th inch jacks and four (4) eye catching white LED buttons that continually fade to show the output of each of the 4 channels. Below the screen are two encoders, the left encoder is stepped for parameter and point selection and the right encoder allows smooth parameter editing. This simple and quick to grasp control scheme will have you mastering this module quickly, manipulating and sculpting your own unique waveforms.

Settings are automatically saved between power cycles to easily resume where you left off. If used on the same power bus board as a Macro Machines “Storage Strip” module, several banks of settings can be stored, recalled and sequenced to allow even more possibilities from studio to stage.

The Concept:

Macro Machines first product, the Storage Strip realizes an entirely new method for complete patch storage and recall using the standard eurorack power bus board. When used in tandem with their second product, the Dynamic Destiny dual 4 to 1 switch router, entirely different patch cable routings can be saved and sequenced. You can, for example, create one setting with a deep analogue sub oscillator routed through a lowpass filter, and instantly switch this to be a complex high pitch FM oscillator through a spring reverb. This gives owners a new possibility to refine and explore vastly different sounds and come back to them in an instant.

Adding the Macro Machines Omnimod to the Storage Strip and Dynamic Destiny, the user could design an entire group of different settings using any modules they currenty have, and come back to them, refine, record different takes, perform and jam with quickly accessible, reliable start points."

Black Cat Goes Modular With Monster K-Fuzz Eurorack Module

Published on Nov 13, 2015 BlackCatPedals

"Black Cat announces debut Eurorack synth product
Black Cat Pedals is pleased to announce its first product for the Eurorack modular synth market - the Monster K-Fuzz module.

The Black Cat Monster K-Fuzz Eurorack module processes audio signals through a modified vintage fuzz circuit to create an array of harmonically complex tones and textures.

The brainchild of vintage synth collector Tom Hughes, the Monster K-Fuzz module has been adapted and optimized specifically for use with modular synthesizers.

In this context, the Monster K-Fuzz functions as a cross between a VCF and a wave shaper. The upper octave fuzz circuitry creates distinct overtones that traditional filters are not capable of. And even when fully overdriven, the Monster K-Fuzz sounds organic and warm - just what you'd expect from a great vintage fuzz.

Monster K-Fuzz module features:

* Variable controls for Saturation and Frequency
* 3-position selector switches for Clipping and Voicing
* Two separate Voltage Control Inputs
* Durable metalphoto finish 6HP panel
* Premium quality through-hole components
* Hand-built in the USA

The new Black Cat Monster K-Fuzz Eurorack synth module retails for $150. Check out www.blackcatpedals.com for further information about the company and their products."

Hexinverter Introduces the MUTANT SNARE

"Introducing the Hexinverter Électronique MUTANT SNARE!

This newest module in the Mutant Drum series brings dynamic snare drum synthesis to the eurorack format, with plenty of modulation and sound-sculpting capabilities to make it at home in the contemporary modular system.

Available from eurorack dealers all around the world this fall!

Stay tuned for video demos. For now, here are some audio demos created by our pal Dr. Snarold [above]

////MODULE DESCRIPTION////

From classic electro snares to warping, alien percussion, the Mutant Snare is a feature-rich departure from the static sounds of the 808!

=MIX and DRIVE=
• MIX lets you blend between the SHELL and SNAPPY tones that make up the overall snare drum
• turn up the DRIVE to get overdriven snare tones with intense harmonics. The purple LED indicates when the snare begins to overdrive
• like the other Mutant Drums, signal levels have been normalized for modular level input and output (up to 20Vpp)

=SHELL synthesizes the drum skins=
• analog bridged-t sinewave oscillators, for those organic-sounding tones we've come to love from the 808
• TONE control blends between the two sinewaves of different frequency
• SHELL PITCH lets you tune one of the sine waves, to change the pitch of your snare drum

=SNAPPY adds some noise to the snare=
• an analog white noise generator feeds the SNAPPY circuit
• an external input lets you patch any sound source you like into the SNAPPY generator
• voltage control of SNAPPY decay
• SNAPPY feeds into an analog selectable high-pass or band-pass filter
• voltage control of filter cutoff frequency
• when nothing is plugged into the cutoff CV input, the SNAPPY envelope OR the adjustable sinewave from the SHELL generator normalize through the CV attenuverter for cutoff CV. A jumper on the back of the module allows you to select which of these internal modulation signals are routed here
• filter has three resonance settings: classic 808 (low resonance), high resonance, and self oscillation
• bipolar attenuators (aka: 'attenuverters') on CV inputs"

MUTABLE INSTRUMENTS WARPS Vocoder Mode Testing

Published on Nov 11, 2015 SYNTH GURU

"Overview

Twists and warps two signals into one.

With a powerful digital core, Warps provides a collection of 6 modulation methods that can be continuously blended into one another: crossfading, cross-wavefolding, diode ring-modulation, balanced modulation (multiplication), XOR modulation, and waveform comparison/doubling. Each of these algorithms has a voltage-controlled timbre parameter, providing a variable level of tone coloration - from slight and sweet to harsh.

In addition, Warps provides a 20-band vocoder, with control over the envelope followers' decay time and the "warping" of the formants.

Before being processed, the two input audio signals are gain-controlled - with a linear and clean curve degenerating into analog-like saturation at the far end of the CV input range.

Warps can replace its first channel (carrier signal) by an internal oscillator, with sine, triangle, sawtooth, vocal buzz or noise waveforms.

The Harvestman Black Locust 4-channel Guitar Adapter for Eurorack Now Available

via @analoguezone

"Black Locust is a 4-channel guitar effects pedal adaptor for your synthesizer.

This module is a re-release of the old, hand-built “STILTON ADAPTOR” module with a smaller panel size (16HP) and more expansion options.

Using a compact arrangement of TRS insert sockets (cables not included), Black Locust properly attenuates and amplifies signals to incorporate your guitar effects into the modular system. A return gain control and a wet/dry mix knob condition the effected signal for maximum utility in a modular context. Instruments such as electric guitars and basses can also be patched directly into the module.

Black Locust is the first of three modules in the FEEDBACK CONSOLE series. With no external input signals, the four pedals can operate in a closed feedback loop, self-generating audio signals that are impossible to directly control - only influence.

This module is a gateway to this highly experimental patching technique. Further modules in the FEEDBACK CONSOLE series include a matrix mixer and programmable quad VCA/envelope follower/signal router, each designed to expand the Black Locust for deeper exploration of the feedback technique.

You will quickly discover sounds that you will never hear again."
