New Premium Ensembles for Reaktor : Blinksonic° releases RUIDOZ & AETØNZ.

Audio demos below.

"A new arrival in Reaktor ensembles provider, Blinksonic offers affordable and inspirational audio contents with cool graphic interfaces.

2 new virtual instruments for Reaktor are just out : Ruidoz V2 & Aetønz.

RUIDOZ V.2 is a beat generator based on the randomization of samples events. This sound design instrument can create rhythmical sequences, percussion lines and a wide variety of sound textures. It's also a collection of 340 micro samples (pieces of electric charges, of liquid flows, of wood and metallic impacts ). RUIDOZ is organized with a step sequencer that triggers one sound on every gate events. Nothing new here, apart that when the random mode is enable, this process creates an interesting flux of sample changes. All is ready for producing original glitchy beats, noisy percussions rhythms and either soundscapes, HUD sounds, semi harmonic phrases and mechanical riffs.

AETØNZ, a virtual sampler synth for playing poly harmonic textures. This hybrid sampler is a collection of 114 tones of various electronic and acoustic instruments. AETØNZ lets you create new keyboard sets with subliminal background textures. These back layer sounds are generated randomly on every notes and can produce fascinating soundscapes and experimental timbres. As a good source of inspiration, AETØNZ comes with more than 200 snapshots on which you can improvise in realtime and invent surprising polytonals chords. Play further notes in scale, you get random combination of textures that stay in tune. The sound is moving .. but the harmony is still. Sometime it sounds weird, sometime it generates rich atmospheres .. you will always get something different.

Both instruments are compatible with the full version of Reaktor 5/6 (Not with the free Reaktor Player). You can get a -25% discount if you purchase the DUOZ° Bundle which contains the two instruments for only $33,86 ///// 29,99€.

Rob Papen ports popular RG guitar groove plug-in to Reason as remarkable Rack Extension

"ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual instrument and effects plug-in developer Rob Papen Soundware is proud to announce availability of RG-RE — a Rack Extension platform-compatible version of its unique RG guitar groove plug-in for Swedish world-class software product developer Propellerhead’s popular music-making application Reason — as of February 19...

When Propellerhead first introduced its revolutionary Rack Extensions concept — custom-built plug-ins for Reason, Rob Papen himself promptly pronounced it as being “...a brilliant concept, continuing: “Clearly, what we face as a developer is having to have a PC version and a Mac version, and if you run them in your regular host, you can crash your host. That’s a real big battle. People, if they use Reason, learn that things are connected. It’s cross-platform; everything works. It’s a major leap forward for Reason, and productions coming out of Reason will sound totally different. Reason remains Reason, but, now, it’s open.”

With RG, Rob Papen’s unique guitar groove plug-in proving popular in its own right, the Dutch developer is no stranger to sounding totally different to the many run-of-the-mill virtual instruments out there. That it has been given the Reason Rack Extension treatment to (re)emerge at an even more affordable price as RG-RE is a shrewd musical move. More users than ever can now enjoy its musical moves by blending them seamlessly in the Reason rack. Load them in Combinators, route (virtual) cables on the back, automate all parameters, and experiment with the safety of undo... what’s not to like here?

To the untrained eye (and ear) RG and its RG-RE Rack Extension ‘spin-off’ might both look like one-trick ponies, ploughing the same narrow musical path. Put aside any preconceptions, though, for the RG concept extends way beyond being a ‘virtual’ guitar player. Indeed, RG-RE does what it does — creating classic rhythm guitar grooves using its onboard SEQ (sequencer) as well as utilising several synthesizer features (including a classic analogue-modelled filter, LFO, envelopes, and modulation section) and effects section (that can be built by using up to three effects at a time from the included MIDI time-based delays, chorus, speaker simulators, phaser, flanger, and much more besides) to create fresh and edgy guitar grooves — just like RG before it! Little wonder, then, that RG is loved so much by so many producers worldwide!

Select and play grooves galore within"

Rob Papen Introduces New Prisma Plugin

via Synth Anatomy

"Making its début at the 2016 NAMM show, Prisma can stack up to four Rob Papen instruments, complete with their respective settings, as a single sound source. Each instrument can be opened individually and easily edited plus Prisma’s built-in features such as four top quality FX allow users to bypass the individual instruments’ effects to save on CPU – making it even faster to produce fresh and unique sounds.

Other smart features include individual velocity or keyboard range split layers which allows the user to creatively combine two instruments at once.

Imagine a Prisma preset with a dreamy pad from Blue II, together with an arpeggiated sound from Predator, a wild wobbulating effect from Blade and a groove from Punch…

Prisma is packed with a range of professionally-programmed presets, including stacks that only use instances of the same software instrument in case the user only owns one Rob Papen product.

Prisma will be completely free for registered Rob Papen users."

Update: and the press release:

Rob Papen proffers PRISMA plug-in to stack its software instruments as a ‘single’ sound source... for free!
ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual instrument and effects plug-in developer Rob Papen Soundware is proud to announce the upcoming release of PRISMA, a useful utility plug-in for Mac (32- and 64-bit, AAX, AU, and VST for Mac OS X 10.6 or higher) and PC (32- and 64-bit, AAX and VST for Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10) that allows any Rob Papen plug-in owner to stack several software instruments — including instances of the same plug- in or otherwise — as a ‘single’ sound source, scheduled for release towards the end of March 2016...

Who better to make the formal introductions, then, than the company’s namesake Managing Director, Rob Papen, professional sound designer and resident Rob Papen progressive product ‘dreamer’ par excellence: “PRISMA provides the Rob Papen ‘sound garden’ with ways of providing terrific tone colours by combining these into a single ‘prismatic’ sound source,” he starts, somewhat poetically. “Powerfully, PRISMA stores those stacked software instruments and all their respective settings as a single preset. Of course, there’s a whole lot more to this than might first meet the eye since users can open each single software instrument individually and easily edit and creatively combine it wonderfully with any other stacked software instruments from Rob Papen to create a whole new range of PRISMA sounds!”
Seriously smart features of note include individual VELOCITY or KEYB. RANGE (keyboard range) split layers for creative combinations. Owners of Rob Papen’s Punch — its award-winning drum synthesis/sampler software instrument with built-in grooves that can be triggered — will take delight in the fact that PRISMA perfectly adapts to that feature favourite by also allowing keyboard range selection for those grooves. Get into the groove with PRISMA by using Punch to generate background rhythms!

Creative combinations within PRISMA are almost limitless. Let’s try picturing a PRISMA preset with a pad from BLUE-II, for instance — itself excellently embodying Rob Papen’s present-day vision to devise a powerful dream synth by building upon the success of the original BLUE, a bona fide soft synth classic developed in close collaboration with RPCX (Rob Papen ConcreteFX) partner and music software developer Jon Ayres nigh on a decade ago (cleverly combining FM and subtractive synthesis with Phase Distortion and waveshaping synthesis to create self-styled ‘Crossfusion Synthesis’) and skyrocketing its innovations onwards and upwards, together with an arpeggiated sound, say, from Predator — ‘phat’ analogue-sounding soft synth with killer presets and first-class features from Rob Papen, combined with a cutting- edge sound from Blade — representing the cutting-edge of soft synth development, and adding a groove from Punch... picture perfect!

PRISMA also has four top-quality FX on board, allowing users to bypass the individual software instruments’ inbuilt effects to save on computer resources, ready for building picture perfect PRISMA sounds!

Still better, PRISMA is available for any Rob Papen user to download for free! Simply stack any already-owned Rob Papen software instruments to use (or create new) PRISMA presets using those software instruments at their disposal, even if it’s just a case of combining multiple instances of BLUE-II, Predator, or any other Rob Papen product. PRISMA, of course, comes packed with a wide range of professionally-programmed presets, including stacks that only use instances of the same software instrument... in case the user only owns one Rob Papen product.

PRISMA really comes into its own when used with eXplorer-III, The Complete Rob Papen Synth & Effect Collection, combining all of the company’s multi-award-winning Mac- and PC-compatible software instruments — including the relatively recently-released RAW soft synth specialising in ‘distorted’ sounds specifically suited to EDM (electronic dance music production) and beyond — and also all of its critically- acclaimed effects plug-ins into an attractively-priced performance and sound design dream bundle to die for. Fortunately, eXplorer-III also installs PRISMA as part of the bundle, so eXplorer-III users will no longer have to worry about installing it for themselves.

Either way, welcome to the wonderful world of PRISMA. Why wait? It’s available for free and simply sounds superb, whether using Rob Papen’s professionally-programmed PRISMA presets or creating new ones!

Rob Papen himself will be demonstrating an advanced version of PRISMA in Hall A, Booth #6825 at The NAMM Show 2016, January 21-24 in Anaheim, California. Come check it out!

New u-he RePro-1 - Research ProjectOne Software Synth in the Works

This one in via Soviet Space Child. It was shared by Urs of u-he on the KVR forum:

"Hi all,

Somehow, while we were working on very yummy filter algorithms, we stumbled across this:

The alpha version is going to be reserach ware, i.e. free like Protoverb. Hence 'RePro-1 - Research Project One'. It'll be a CPU hog because we want you guys to compare the unoptimised filter algorithms. We expect to release the alpha version shortly after the Superbooth in early April 2016.

The final version will be souped up with some extra features (the screenshot may make the guess easy) and it will be released for AAX/AU/VST with highly optimised filters by the end of 2016.

This is a monophonic synth. The final version will be an exceptionally close emulation of some nifty little vintage synth, with some nifty little extras added (but still not polyphonic).

In short: This is *not* coming soon! - But it'll sound great, and you're hereby prepared for some participation to happen!

Thoughts?

Cheers,

- Urs"

Guessing the Sequential Circuits Pro-One based on the name and layout of course, with the extras being the modulation section, sequencer and/or more.

UVI PX Apollo - New Soft Synth Based on the Prototype Polymoog

Published on Jan 19, 2016 UVI

"PX Apollo is based on a rare synthesizer prototype from the early ‘70s of which only 2 are known to exist. [you'll find one here, here, and video here] Part of a larger project that was eventually abandoned, this instrument was the precursor to one of the world’s first and most prolific polyphonic analog synthesizers. With a sound that can be described as rich, warm and surreal, this instrument was extraordinarily playable for the time, sporting velocity sensitivity and a performance interface, while its polyphonic 71-voice architecture signaled the coming paradigm shift in synthesizer design that would soar during the following decade.

The PX Apollo project represents an enormous effort and commitment to quality on many levels. Due to the components available at the time of their design, early polyphonic synthesizers were and remain particularly susceptible to failure and require continued maintenance. The unit used for PX Apollo was no exception, initially inoperable it required a tremendous restoration effort and no expense was spared to ensure complete authenticity and original functionality.

With the restoration complete we set about to document this historic instrument as accurately as possible. We created a huge master sample catalogue with the best hardware available. Each key was sampled in a multitude of configurations and for each 4 round-robins were created per note. The resulting PX Apollo sound bank consists of over 4,000 samples. From this library over 150 patches were made by our sound design team, delivering a fantastic collection of ready-to-play patches.

The UI for PX Apollo was inspired by the aesthetics of the original hardware, while the layout and control schema were designed to provide intuitive and efficient use while maximizing flexibility, allowing for both quick edits to preset sounds and deep customization by way of a full compliment of synthesis tools and effects including 3 oscillators, envelope generators, high-quality filters, pitch and stereo controls and per-oscillator modulation and arpeggiation.

PX Apollo provides a glimpse into a key moment of synthesizer history at one of the industries most important turning points, delivering a rich and detailed sound with a warm and pronounced character."

Tracktion BioTek - New Organic Virtual Instrument from Wolframe Franke & Taiho Yamada

"This is a selection of demos from the new Tracktion BioTek virtual synthesizer. Each cue was performed live using a single BioTek patch in order to demonstrate the playability and expressiveness of the instrument. Wolfram Franke's powerful synth engine completely transforms sound between nature and technology via the central XY controller. It was an honor and pleasure to direct sound development for this project, and to contribute what I consider to be some of my best sound design work to date.

Special thanks to the entire BioTek sound design team, including Wolfram, Mike Wall, Sendy, justin3am, and Randy Lee. Check out electronic music from Wolfram Franke, Sendy and justin3am here on SoundCloud:

@wolfram-franke
@sendy
@justin3am"

Wolframe Franke was previously with Waldorf. He was the developer behind Largo, PPG Wave 2.V & 3.V, Attack and Steinberg's V1. He also created Stroke Machine for the iPad.

Taiho Yamada was the Project Manager and Head of Sound Design at Alesis. He worked on the QuadraSynth, QS series, A6 Andromeda, Ion, Micron, and the Fusion HD workstations. He was also the man behind the M-Audio Venom.

Anyone know who the girl with the whisky bottle is? [Update: it's Kristina Childs who designed the UI for BioTek. Thanks to Lima in the comments for the info and Anonymous for the link!]

You'll find more info on Tracktion's BioTek on their website here. They also have a Micro Synth Pack.
